Making jokes like that are never funny. Who would have thought that the only good person in the family would be Zoe's mom. Zoe should have defended Shane, she knew deep down what her father was doing was wrong. Shane deserves better.
I agree with you you said. Shane is a sweet guy that deserves the respect he wants, but his girlfriend's racist family thought that making jokes about a person's race to manipulate her into dating only white, rich, and successful men would make things better for themselves, but it's not because this is hurting their daughter even more. My ex-stepdad, Franchy and my ex-cousin, Alicia, did the same to Nakia, so my mom and I had enough them before we moved to Turnberry on the Greene. They weren't being reasonable with us, so we had to kick them out of our lives because if they're not going to be a part of our struggles, then they were not going to be apart of our success.
I'm with Shane and her mama on this one. You can't be making excuses for people who have no heart
If you are around people acting fake, weird, etc. because of your race or skin color, then you need to keep your distance from them.
Continue being yourself and wait for God to send you the people who are right for you.
It is true that we all do need a good laugh because many times we turn on the TV, we hear nothing but greedy corporations and shootings. And it is true we all do need a break from it. But even with jokes, we have to really watch it and know which jokes are funny and which ones aren't.

This might just be the best video I've seen from this channel. It was heavy. Very heavy. But the message is poignant and timely. Very well scripted and acted, too - the tension in the scene was palpable.
I used to and still do get bad jokes thrown at me because ppl see it as harmless fun...they don't truly see the pain and harm that comes with it, as they have grown up hearing it from parents and other family..
My Father did his best to tell me how to be with others, despite being brought up in a place that did not tolorate others of color or race.

The girlfriend reminds me of my ex when she defended her family's racism and than tried to play it off that I'm being overly sensitive about their comments

Great video and Shane was right to leave it's a shame this story doesn't have a happy ending but the way she defended her father shows she might be prejudiced too even if she doesn't know it if I was her I would have taken him to the nearest hotel right away and told them we're not coming back without an apology shame they parted on bad terms but that's the point of a cautionary Tale

All of them except for the mom should be deeply ashamed of themselves. The mother was smart , she doesn't like vibe what was transpiring in front of her. The daughter ,her brother and her father was just disgusting. Annoying. The only joke i make to anyone who's darker then me (that is everyone), I tell. Is trying to rube my arm on them. Then, say why no one will share the tan. But I burn in the sun in seconds and really need the tan.
I feel for Shane cuz I know what it’s like to be looked down upon just by the color of your skin and that ppl bring in micro aggressions and they think those types of comments are funny. It also baffles me that Shane’s gf was downplaying the situation and was not defending him which is something that will hurt the relationship

this was far too political. where does humour begin and end? there was a fine line there. im totally against racism. there was far to much emphasis in areas, but not enough in others. iv seen many times black and white guys messing around calling each other in a purely jokie way. all laughing. yes there has to be limits on both sides. hence the fine line between humour and offence.
