This made me cry as it felt vaguely familiar. Im the survivor of multiple Motorcycle accidents that have left me in a twice in a coma totaling 40ish days (29 in 1992 and 11 more in 2009).
Whaw :-) - Congrats dream-team!! Impressive job on a very challenging & difficult subject - thanks for raising awareness for the clinical challenges when caring for coma & severe disorders of consciousness - great initiative from the journal SCIENCE - hope you guys will win in your category
Interesting short movie with dance scenes. This is not interpretive dance, but unrelated dance added to the story of a brain injury. Interesting idea, but yet another film that didn't follow the instructions. Rather than the dance representing the thesis, it is just sprinkled in a film of hospital clips and such where the thesis's explanation is dependent on the words presented.
The couple dancing in a coordinated/seemingly weightless fashion symbolizes friendship/love/freedom from care. Sudden collision symbolizes car crash. In patient A’s brain, dancers are dressed in the same way and dance slowly/similarly which represents slow/undifferentiated brain response. In patient B’s brain, dancers wear different colors and dance energetically representing a complex brain response. Patient B’s large and slow gestures symbolize recovery. Patient A’s slow and weightless dance towards the light (prototypical feature of a near-death experience) represents the peacefulness and appeasement of a near-death experience. In my view, this is interpretative dance :)
@@helenacassol7371 And we must not forget the dancing (the hand-clapping and the mirror thingy) done at the ICU represented the traditional consciousness tests based on physical stimulation and behaviour which are applied to coma patients.
Well. I did not sign up for this rather educational feels trip. Well done.
