This is amazing Chase. I've always appreciated the detail in the fish I catch, but watching how you can re-create that in these paintings is even more incredible. Well done mate and look forward to the next one, whenever that may be!!
Thanks, Heathe! I don't think my paintings even come close to doing the real thing justice. I feel like you could spend eons looking at a fish and never see it all.
Another great episode! I went back to rewatch the Arctic Charr to better understand your process; I couldn't be more impressed! In a future episode at some point, I would love to hear more about your artistic upbringing and some of the struggles/successes you experienced throughout the history of your scientific illustrations that have helped you develop your process. Take care!
WOW…. You’ve definitely been Blessed with a talent. The fish on paper, looked very much alive….and ready to swim off… to complete the catch and release… Thank you for sharing….
🔥 video gotta love trout fishing the scenery and those beautiful trout! I just uploaded some trout fishing videos they were a blast to make cannot seem to find anyone else that’s 16 and interested in fishing as much as me!!!!
Amazing work, again! As someone who has starting experimenting with watercolor in the past year and has a keen interest in scientific illustration, could you tell me what paper you use and the info on the smaller brushes? Thank you!
Are you using one color gouache for all scale highlights or do you adjust the gouache color depending on the washes? (As in like, mixing a pale yellow gouache highlight in the belly of this fish.)
Depends on the fish! Sometimes it’s a single mix, but for fish with a lot of variation I will often mix 2 or 3 colors(back, flank, and belly, for example)
@@TightLoops that makes sense! Thats what I assumed. I’m an artist and illustrator also. I have never attempted scientific fish illustration mostly because of the whole scale process! 😂 But honestly, it might be interesting to try to push through for that final result.
Your painting is beautiful!! I'd love to have one of your original works!! I'd want a painting of an atlantic salmon from my home water's of Newfoundland. Is something like that possible?
Thanks Noel! It’s totally possible to commission one if you have a good reference photo! I’ve got some Atlantics from northern QC I’ve been meaning to paint, but none from The Rock! I’d love to. If you’re serious, send me an email to tightloopsfly@gmail.com Let’s chat!
