- Bangladesh has been experiencing growing protests and opposition-led strikes calling for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign.
Many demonstrations have been met by government crackdowns.
The main opposition party and its allies say they will boycott the general election on January 7.
Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from Dhaka on widespread concerns that the vote will not be free or fair.

I'm Bangladeshi research student in foreign University. It’s haven’t any thing for free, fair and participatory election. This government never been do like this that approved last two general elections and almost all local elections also not fair. Please help Bangladeshi people get back their rights. Now in Bangladesh no rights accept ruling party followers. One lady dictator control everything.

Among the 44 political parties registered by the Bangladesh Election Commission, 28 political parties have chairpersons and 1 advisor. He is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Out of 28 parties, 27 parties were born between August 2020 and 2023. Those 27 parties have 30 thousand voters in Bangladesh. These parties are going to the polls. All government made plays.
