Yes, because Ren is from the UK, massive Jamaican influence, from reggae to dance Hall to Jungle to drum and bass. Murderer by BL has been sampled so many times in Jungle tracks.Class effort by Ren here. ❤
Amazing catch on Barrington Levi... I heard that song many years ago and was racking my brain as to what artist it was. Thank you for answering that for me before I had an aneurysm.
Ha trust Mr Boyd to realize the roots of this one. Most reactors just say this has some reggae tones. We love it when Ren turns originals into better songs. Facts lol
I'm so glad he was able to point out Barrington Levy. I knew the chorus sounded very familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it and it was bugging me.
Barrington Levy Murderer 93' Well spotted sir! Ren did name drop Levy in his post release stream but thus far no one picked up on it, gold star, top of the class, and yes this is a banger!
Barrington Levy was huge in the UK. Under Mi Sensi was on repeat throughout the 80's & 90's and Here I Come was equally huge, playing a massive part in the UK rave scene as it was remade with Rebel MC and Tenor Fly into the legendary "Tribal Base" which got played by SO MANY back in the day. The UK has a very close connection to Jamaica and Sound System culture - it is basically what influenced our own rave scene in the late 80's onward, evolving into Drum n Bass that people know today
I think Sony must br crying for not keeping him signed... Ren's music knowlefge runs the gamut from Medieval music to Rap. A fan of Nate King Cole, Nina Simone, all the jazz and fusion artist as well as rock pioneers. We have such a mix in Ren the well runs deep.
Ren doesn't give a shit about being bigger, he goes his own way. Hell, he's already climbing! He also doesn't want to be signed to a label bc they would hold him back from what he wants to do. If he had been under label, Suicide and Murderer would have never been released!
Ren cares about getting bigger, any artist would. If he didn't he wouldn't ask people to share his music, sub to his channel or write things like "Also pretty cool that every single song release since Hi Ren has hit the RUclips trending page!" on community posts. Of course he wants to remain independent though but independence ≠ not giving a shit about getting bigger. There's nothing wrong with wanting to grow your audience anyway.
"But you gotta tie his hands, though..." I laughed so hard!😂😂😂😂 I'm glad you got past that title issue you started with and saw it for the brilliant song it is.😊❤
Hey, I think it's SO GOOD that you took the time to splice in that bit of Levy so Ren fans can see exactly HOW CLEARLY the title line of this song is taken/inspired from the reggae song. Hope it brings at least a bit of attention to Levy from a new stream of listeners who might not otherwise have checked him out edit after watching the rest of your video - no, but seriously. I'm still choked up and teary-eyed that you put the Levy clip in. In my mind, I imagine that Ren would be moved, too. It was such a simple touch, but you went out of your way to do it and idk, everything about that moment in your video just felt so *right.*
I googled Barrington Levy yesterday after seeing someone else comment in another reaction to 'Murderer' that there was an obvious influence there. You're the first commenter I've heard mention him. Your vast knowledge is second to none and i love learning from your pearls of wisdom. Cheers mate.
He is making a point. When he released Su*cide , he remarked on the hypocrisy of having to tweak the name but singing about murder would be acceptable. And you are correct, it is a nod to Barrington Levy. ❤ Ren under promises and over delivers. -Love that❤
Just to put your mind at rest...he's fine not tying the hands back. We don't have the escape tabs in the trunks ("boots") in the UK. I guess we just don't stuff as many people in them as they do in the US :D
It’s been 24 hours and he’s riding 382K views on this as an independent artist, so I hope he continues to do it balls to the wall and not reined up. He pointed out the hypocrisy of the censorship around the last title in comparison all over social media. Here it is in all its cheeky glory: Is it just me that thinks its weird that you're allowed to have a song called MURDERER without censorship issues but call it suic!de and it gets flagged??????? As a social experiment my next song will be called 'Genocidal Pimp Shagger Dildo Legs Mcgee'
I've watched hundreds of your videos. I've never seen you so quickly bop out. Yes, Ren deserves recognition more than anyone we have on this planet, but your honesty across your reactions is in a class of it's own as well. Keep sharing. This world need the artist almost as much as we need to see the artist reacting. Great job, fella!!!
Oh, the priceless look on Ren's face thrown to The Pig before he gets out of the car with the chloroform soaked rag in his hand... Brilliant. Aside his evident musical talent, the man is also a born actor!
There is something so magical about Ren's performance in this song! When you mix a good beat, crazy rap skills, a buff and good looking Ren, catchy lyrics, cool bars and rhyme schemes, energy and did I mention the pig chauffeur, you end up with another brilliant music video! Love it!😊
When a 66 year old Canadian who grew up listening to Jim Reeves says he loves Ren you know this man is special. Love and respect, brother, hangover gang Canada 🇨🇦
Can tell you enjoyed that as much as I did when I first saw it. The cheeky grin towards the end was testament to that :) I've listened to this countless times in 2 days... major ear worm... and I'm still not tired of it.
I actually found Ren by watching your reaction oh Hi Ren. His music and actions have started to make changes in my life, in the most positive ways. I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to this artist. Much love
New the Murderer bit was old school dancehall when I first heard it - Barrington Levy. Ta. I was thinking ini kamoze, hotstepper, which he references. Also got a cab Calloway vibe in the rat tat tat - love your comments.
Thanks for that Barrington Levy observation. I'll bet you are 100% correct! That's why I like his work, because all of the artists that I really love have a deep wide range of influences. If your only influenced by the guy you're trying to be better than, or only the genre that you play, then you will never break boundaries. No shame in influences. No one is truly original. We all get it from someone before us. We just breathe new life into it. Even the brick and mortar of the buildings we live in come from the the land that was here before it.
Ren said Barrington Levy - Murderer was the inspiration for this Song and he is heavily influenced by Reggae in a lot of his Music, Reggae has been popular in the UK for at least 70yrs
Great reaction,my friend. You are the only person I have seen to pick up on the Barrington Levy connection. Both songs are great by the way. Keep up the good work.
After I watched the Premiere of “Murderer” I had this funny feeling that “we” created a Monsta!!!! It’s incredible to witness REN Gill now and then! Watch Out!!
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much for recognising the 'murderer' I've been thinking so much about this as I know my reggae, jungle, dancehall. I was beginning to think it was 'welcome to jamrock' but after just listening to Barrington I think you may be correct.
Well spotted 👌🏻 I’m a 48 year old British woman and my mother brought me up up on that stuff. Ska/reggae, Motown, northern soul. It gets into your bones.
Great spot on Barrington Levy. Ren mentioned it himself on his Twitch stream after the premier. This is a total bop, that beat, the scratching giving it that sampled sound - I straight listened to it about 8 times after it dropped.
Ren absolutely should not curb his choice of song titles. The world needs to face a few things to change, and choice of words isn't going to stop his ascension.
You got it right, Barrington Levy some other lines from ini kamoze as well seems he is influence by them Jamaican artist a lot,. Take a look at here come the hot steeper by Ini Kamoze
Wow! Top knowledge bro, plus shows how wide and varied Ren casts his 'influenced by' net. This is another great 1 shot video and the hooks are as catchy as hell.
Pulling out music knowledge on the way a man says the word Murderer just shows you know what TF you're talking about and any haters out there best respect that knowledge. I genuinely had a smile from ear to ear when you played the clip of that other song with Murderer in it XD Your face at the end makes me think you were just sitting there incredibly proud of Ren.
Ren titles his songs how he wants to, with no concern of who might be offended. He doesn’t care what RUclips or record labels think, his songs will still be heard as they were intended. That’s an artist!
Yeah - definitely not hurting him, is it? People need to stop worrying about being "canceled" and do their thing. Those that don't defend against it (Bill Burr is one that springs to mind - love that guy) keep plowing because the majority of people don't care. Don't give the radical, vocal minority power.
My view is he doesn't care if he gets censored for a title, he said suicide 30 times in that song and I'm sure he did that 100% intentionally to prove a point!!! Sure it will lose him views, but I honestly don't think he cares, he releases what he wants on HIS terms!!! 1 million subscribers agree with him and that number is only gonna get bigger!! He throws the bird at the system and breaks all the rules and is succeeding as well!!
The important thing is his songs are about problems that exist right now, and the problems have names that need to be spoken openly, not hidden, and openly talked about. If subjects such as suicide and murder cause triggers, then maybe the triggers need to be met face-on. As you say, there’s a million-strong community here to face these problems down with.
Great reaction as usual, so good to see you picking up Levy so quickly, although I expect nothing less from you!! Ren's releasing a track a week then the full hop hop album. I can't wait!! Look forward to seeing you check them out 🖤
0:52 Since it dropped I have been wracking my brain on that "Murderer" vocal, and trying desperately to find it in my music collection. I went wrong thinking it was King Tubby, and was looking through everything. I would have gotten it sooner, but I also remember it being sampled in a few oldschool UK tunes at the time of transition from Rave into early Jungle (Pre-Drum & Bass era), so also squandered time in that way. Oh, how my mind can travel. I didn't pin that reference down in between the time of my initial hearing/watching, and your reaction. I guess I'm getting old. But, I did take time to enjoy some forgotten records in my search, so "no complaints", as you say. :)
Great reaction as always, naming it murderer was the point. As far as I know from his non video posts is he did this to prove a song called murderer wouldn’t get buried as much as his suicide track.
My friend linked this to me and I loved hello ren. I just finished messaging him when Ren blows up he will be more famous than Slim. Immediately followed by you stating that we have failed music if he doesn't get big soon.
only help he has is the guy with the camera shooting the videos, witch are brilliantly simple, but simply brilliant! singing ability - top shelf, lyrical - out of scale, spiting - with licence to kill like 007 and his music... all in one... it is mad how good hi already is and can become yet
I used to hear Baritone Levy in Belize when I lived there all the time, especially dance hall versions. Never knew who it was, thank you for connecting those dots.
You are the first person to spot the homage to Barrington Levy! Ren really doesn’t care who likes or doesn’t like his song titles or content and I like that. He’s too good! 🖤
Man, this reaction was just so much fun to watch! Thank you! and that tip on "tying their hands before shoving them in the trunk", priceless!🤣🤣🤣 Edit: YES, if this guy is not everywhere by the end of this year, we have failed the Universe!
I've never heard Barrington Levy before, but I immediately thought this song sounded familiar. I listened to Levy's Murderer, and knew I'd heard the beat somewhere else. I feel like it's Lauryn Hill or Sublime. It's naggging at me something' fierce...
I think you're the first reactor catching the Barrington Levy - Murderer connection completely (some it was familiar but couldn't pinpoint it), Respect! Yeah he's convincing cause he's a great actor too ... tbh music is only the first step to him, while his music is diverse af it's still only a part of his whole performance. He said in his Twitch that directing is his endgame but he'll defo still be acting in stuff he does imo, I see him as a performer pur sang ... while still writing/performing the music for it too. Hope he can turn heads at Netflix with the proposal for the series he's making with Sam
Not saying that the US hasn't been influenced too (erm, cool Herc?) but the UK music scene is perhaps unique in it's Caribbean influence, multiple waves over many decades................... as always Ren is paying his dues, like broader than Broadway,...............
To me, he's not looking for 'success' like many other artists. I think he uses the titles to show that he doesn't care, that he would rather reach one suicidal person than 1,000 'mentally well' people. He's similar to Tom MacDonald in their quest to bring light to mental health, display their talents that people told them they didn't have or didn't respect and send a message to the music industry that times are changing and being independent is the way to go.
Just a guess - but thinking Ren did this intentionally bc he was so pissed about all the issues with his last release Suic!de - and having it and people blocked if they even said the word. I heard a brief piece where he said - (paraphrasing) ‘we can all say murder.. and it’s fine, but not suic!de - that’s a bridge too far’!! I don’t believe he gives a damn about what the ‘big bois’ think or say - he’s doin’ his thing, and doing it very, very well!! (IMO)
Wow! I just searched Barington Levy and literally "murderer" is the opening word sung nearly identical to the way Ren has it in his song! Gool call Mr. Boyd!!! OOPS - paused it before he did it himself! 🤣🤣🤣
Barrington Levy is def legendary. As an 80's baby - he was legit. Shyne & Barrington Levy - Bonnie and Shyne, React to that and my local mandem Rascalz Ft. Barrington Levy - Top of the world
@MRLBOYD Ren stated that he was specifically interested in studying the results of such a song w/said title. This was an opportunity that is allowing him to contrast "S*ic*de" and it's treatment amongst the digital gateways. Much Love & Respect --- Directly from the rolling hills and fertile farmlands of Pennsylvania❗️❗️

Spot on
Yes, because Ren is from the UK, massive Jamaican influence, from reggae to dance Hall to Jungle to drum and bass. Murderer by BL has been sampled so many times in Jungle tracks.Class effort by Ren here. ❤
I’ll add Here Come The Hotstepper by Ini Kamozi to the influence list. Especially as it was quite big in the uk when it was released (94)
Amazing catch on Barrington Levi... I heard that song many years ago and was racking my brain as to what artist it was. Thank you for answering that for me before I had an aneurysm.
Great catch man. My mind immediately went to Bad Boyz by Shyne, and I just looked into the feature and sure enough...Barrington Levy. 🙏
Ha trust Mr Boyd to realize the roots of this one. Most reactors just say this has some reggae tones. We love it when Ren turns originals into better songs. Facts lol
Dead right - totally out of dancehall stylee, circa 92.
First class reaction, loved it
👌💛
Dude he’s the goat best reactor out there
I'm so glad he was able to point out Barrington Levy. I knew the chorus sounded very familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it and it was bugging me.
He is my best reactor thank you sir for all your hard work Ren is the goat 🐐🐐🐐

Yea, agree, he can care less how the title of the song appealing for the masses lol
Amen!!!
For sure! Ren doesn't worry about that, that's why we love him.

He IS ready, I just don’t know that I am. 😂 I’m afraid to let him out into the scary fame world. If anyone hurts him, so help me god ❤
Ren, but, Shout out to that camera person! Deserves every award a camera person can get, as well as an olympic medal in track and field.
It's Luke Flegg, a friend of mine who is an incredible videographer...

OmGLmFAo!
Almost chocked on a chip.....
the fact ren aint an household name is a testament to the powers of the corporations
Ren is one of very few artists that can fit an acoustic guitar into a hip hop beat and it makes the beat better.
Love the smirk being the only nod to the shocking like a finger in the anus line 😂
OMG you’re the only one to know where it was sampled from you are the GOAT 🐐
I've watched hundreds of your videos. I've never seen you so quickly bop out. weirdo...ren is average amongst artists...he just feeds into mainstream bs
Oh, the priceless look on Ren's face thrown to The Pig before he gets out of the car with the chloroform soaked rag in his hand...

Ren is gonna win ewry Music Award catecories in this year
😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘
Great call on the Barrington Levy
He has 4 songs dropping next month and then all 18 tracks after that. Ren is incredible
I’m so happy to see you smiling and laughing I’m almost distracted… this song is dope af and I LOVE Ren. I am dying to see him live. 😍
Yeah, Ren has leveled up yet again and is done playing around.
He is ready for beastmode.
Beware of Ren the Reaper, cause he's coming for somebody 🤯
6:25 - When Mr L Boyd realizes he's shared a bit too much insider knowledge...
Ren does Ren wants to do and I guess that is why has 1m subs. Great reaction,
Big respect.
When a 66 year old Canadian who grew up listening to Jim Reeves says he loves Ren you know this man is special. Love and respect, brother, hangover gang Canada 🇨🇦
Love that you caught the Barrington Levy call-out.
Barrington levy is efing awesome. Damien Marley also used the sample murderer
Much love
My man chloroformed that dude. He won’t be pullin nothin
thank you for continuing to react and support my favourite artist ever ❤❤❤
It’s official, this man is untouchable.
Ren is not afraid of AI, he is excited about it… fucking badass with the crown sitting sexy on the throne!
Ren's ready, give this man a chance!!!!
New the Murderer bit was old school dancehall when I first heard it - Barrington Levy. Ta. I was thinking ini kamoze, hotstepper, which he references.
Also got a cab Calloway vibe in the rat tat tat - love your comments.

Apparently the guy they kidnapped is the same person who is tied up in the opening scene of Animal Flow
if this is true, then this song is a prequel to the Animal Flow 🤯
@@mantasjoniskis that's what Ren said on his livestream. He said it all linked together
Yup, it's the photographer that snaps his pix a lot.
Omg I love your reaction! Thank you for bringing me joy today🙏 Much love from a new subscriber from Sweden🙏🥰❤️

So glad you got the Levy homage. Ren's sinister, but boppin. Awesome song, great reaction!
Ren says he doesn't write hooks for the radio, then he drops this banger.
I listen to Barrington levy almost every day.... You can hear him being played at house parties here in u.k ❤
Great reaction as usual, so good to see you picking up Levy so quickly, although I expect nothing less from you!! Ren's releasing a track a week then the full hop hop album. I can't wait!! Look forward to seeing you check them out 🖤

Happy to see you reacting to this.❤
thank you for bringing up the obvious Barrington Levy nod,. that hit me immediately too, lovely to hear Ren doing it justice.
Four new tracks coming in August, followed by the balance of the album for a total of 18 tracks. Wow
Great reaction as always, naming it murderer was the point. As far as I know from his non video posts is he did this to prove a song called murderer wouldn’t get buried as much as his suicide track.

Excellent spot there Mr LBoyd, you can also hear that tune in >> Ed Solo - Murderer (Deekline and Specimen A remix)
Man, this reaction was just so much fun to watch! Thank you!

Hows the unexplainable but seamless camera work too. Said to been one fella no pass offs. Truly incredible.
Not quite seamless....watch that white car appear when the camera gets back out of the car....
I genuinely loved watching your reaction. That giggle made me smile.
The title is just a much an expression of the art as the song itself is. Never hold back any aspect of your art.
Barrington Levy was my first thought too. Love that you catch great music references
Ren is ready - makes me smile all the time watching his trajectory!!
his homage To Barrington 's song .in his music is dope and nicely done.
dude idk why but i love your videos . peace and love from germany to you man !
(IMO)
🔥damn! Never fails, Ren is a beast.
Wow! I just searched Barington Levy and literally "murderer" is the opening word sung nearly identical to the way Ren has it in his song! Gool call Mr. Boyd!!!
OOPS - paused it before he did it himself! 🤣🤣🤣
Good to see you clock on to the Barrington Levy stylee.
Wonder if we'll get a Ren tribute to Under Me Sensi.
I’ve seen a ton of your vids. I could truly see you vibe out. Much❤️
This is a very good reaction. Totally agree with you on everything.
I’ve seen a few mentions of Levy. Never heard him but from the little bit you played I’ll be checking him out!! Great reaction 🔥🔥
