    Also LCSW is accepted by medicaid, but the others are not. Just was told this from a person who recommended me to go into lcsw instead of lpc.

I think that becoming an LCSW is awesome and will allow you to work in many different settings. Please let me know if you need help sifting through the many social work programs or need any further information. Much fortune moving forward.

    I have a BSW. I'm not licensed and currently work in the Human Service field as a QIDP. I love working with adults but would like to be on the forefront and work with children instead of adults with IDD. I thought I wanted to be an LCSW but have been looking into LSSP. You are correct about it being in high demand especially in my rural area. Your videos are so informative. Thanks so much for your guidance.

      Hi Sheran, thank you for watching and commenting. Much fortune in pursing school psychology. As an LSSP you'll definitely be able to make determinations on student's learning disabilities and it definitely a good field to help students get the services they need in schools and in the community. LCSWs are good too and work in so many different settings. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to help. Thank you again for watching and leaving a comment.

    I’m so curious now! I did not know about LSSP until recently. I’m looking to change from the MSW program I’m in and considering LSSP. I wanted to become an LCSW and work with vets like myself. Now I’m thinking I may need to change schools and continue with an MSW at a different school. I’m just not sure what to do though at this point. I want to work in the helping field, work with more populations, but I would love to be able to work at a school as well. I just don’t really know what I want yet I guess. Help! Lol!

      I’m interested in LSSP but I thought I’d be done working at the same time the kids were done with school. But after seeing the other comments, I guess that’s not the case. I also like the idea of working in multiple schools and being a nomadic type worker as I’ve heard LSSPs do. Not sure... and I didn’t know about BCBAs either haha! What to do... 🤷‍♀️

    • @Joelschoolpsy

      Hi Patricia, thank you for leaving a comment and letting me know about your aspirations. There are definitely benefits to both fields. And actually you are right...I would say that MOST LSSPs do get their summers and contracts tend to me 10 months. However, there are some that work year-round. I just started my internship and all of the school psychs I work with were off for the summer. Most that I have worked with have had their summers off previously as well...in past summers. However, school social workers will usually get their summers off too. I believe their are two or three social workers that work for my district and their schedule is like ours. I do think that if you finish your LCSW, you'll have a bit more latitude in what you can do, in terms of the amount of places you'll be able to work. You could definitely work with vets and work in schools too. One thing about social work too, is that if you eventually want to become a licensed psychologist, you'll have some good experience already under your belt to get accepted into a clinical or counseling psychology program. The psychology field does tend to welcome people with a social work background.

    Hello! Thank you for making this video! I am debating becoming a LCSW or a LMFT. My heart was originally set on LMFT but I've heard that an LCSW can do everything that a LMFT can do plus more! Is that true? Could I eventually go into private practice if I become a LCSW? Also is a MSW degree the same as LSCW?

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  4 года назад

      Hi Sydney. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. LCSW definitely tend to work more places than LMFTs and there are foundational differences of these two careers. I think that getting an LCSW opens you up to more jobs and more flexibility in the places you get to work. You can get a license as a LMSW or a LCSW. LCSWs require more training than LMSW. So you would obtain a masters in social work and then you could decide whether you would like to just pursue becoming a licensed master social worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

      @@Joelschoolpsy Hi! This was a wonderful video and was certainly helpful.
      I am actually debating the same thing Sydney seems to be. I want to do therapy with couples but I also would very much like to do therapy with individuals who aren't there for relationship related things, and eventually have a private practice (If I work hard enough!) So after talking to a relative who is an LMFT, they said I could do therapy with both as an LCSW but the difference in training has to do with the philosophical lens of the program. They said I can do both, I just need to ensure I get training in the different areas, which should be provided within any clinical program. I also will need, like you mentioned, training post-grad school in areas of interest to me.
      What do you think? I think LCSW is the way to go for me in order to get to do what I want.

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  4 года назад

      @@chuckmonkey99 Hi Charles. Thank you for watching a leaving a comment. Thank you for also sharing with me your interests. I definitely think LCSW is a good way to go. The jobs are certainly there and as you mentioned...they can really do a lot of different things. They can definitely work with families, children, young and older adults. In fact, many LCSWs work with both veterans and their families. Many LCSWs work with children with debilitating disabilities and their families in hospital settingings. You can really specialize in your area(s) of interest and map out the population you'd like to work with. There are even many LCSWs that work in schools. I think that since you want to work with families and individuals...although you can do that with and LMFT....LCSWs seem to be consistently employed in more places from job searches I have done. And you could definitely work in private practice too. 😎 please let me know what other questions you may have. I'm happy to help.

    Why do the BCBAs make more money when the education seems pretty comparable

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  4 года назад

      Hi Ebony, I think it's mainly because BCBAs are in higher demand than LPCs, LCSWs, and LMFTs. Less people know about the field of behavior analysis and so not as many people know about the field. Counseling and social work have become a bit saturated. When the need to counselors and social workers goes up, the salary will likely reflect that need. There is also a huge shortage of school psychologists and that is also why the salary is a little higher as well.

    What would you say is the pay like for a LPC in North Carolina? Also which career is more broader and has better pay between becoming a BCBA and a LPC?

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Adia. LPC for North Carolina is probably going to be anywhere from about 40-60,000 depending on experience. BCBAs tend to get paid very well. Both depend on the experience that you have but, I believe you'll see BCBAs getting paid a bit higher than LPCs on job postings.

    Would you say you’re able to become certified or meet the requirement to be an LSSP if you pursue an LCSW and complete internship hours in the school setting?

    • @Joelschoolpsy
      @Joelschoolpsy  4 года назад +2

      Hi Kiana. Good question. You would likely have to go back and take some more coursework to meet state licensing requirements. The state will require specific coursework, so some coursework from your social work program may count toward that, but you'll likely need some additional courses. They'll also require that you do 1200 hours at least during your internship. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

      Hi Mau. If you want, you could continue on to become a licensed clinical social worker and counsel under that licensed. Typically LCSWs and counselors compete for a lot of the same jobs. Or you can finish your msw and apply to psychology doctorate programs to become a psychologist. Your state may also except your msw toward counselor licensure as long as you program allows you to get enough hours (typically 700) within your program.
