I mix the galkyd with the paint until it gets to about an ink consistency and is as transparent as I want for the area of the painting I'm working on. If I want more coverage in an area I use less galkyd in the mix.
Not including dry time between layers, approximately 8-10 hours of work time. I would allow the paint to dry overnight or longer if needed before applying the next layer.

Thanks for the tutorial. Are you using water, medium, or paint thinner to thin the paint with every layer?
I use Galkyd Medium to thin and speed up dry times. You can also use Liquin.
