If your dryer will only run when you hold the start switch in the fault is not likely to be the start switch. The likely cause will be this door switch that has failed, this is how to replace it.

Always a good idea to take a photo before disconnecting anything as a reference to put things back.

How would you know it is the switch that is faulty?

Hi Ian if everything works but the machine doesn't start it would indicate the door hasn't locked, you can then check the door lock with a multimeter to confirm if it has failed.
