I have two of my girls squatting if I reach for them at all, so I think they're getting close. These are my first chickens and I'm really excited! I've been feeding them the Scratch and Peck, and we didn't even have the weird stage when they molt at 12 weeks and look a mess lol. It was so slow you couldn't even tell. They feathered out really early too. It's good stuff.

Two of my younger birds started laying when their cones were still quite small, like half the size of a grown cone, which I found to be perplexing. Yet the cones were really red. I hope that they don't burn out too fast.

Here in East Texas we are getting steady 100 degree days.
I have 7 hens of varying age 3+ to 10 months.
I also have 8 pullets also of varying age (the run on chicks this past spring made it very difficult for me to get the breeds i wanted) 4 Golden Comets are late January 2 Barred Rocks are mid February and 1 Easter Egger 1 New Hampshire Red are late February.
They all have been outside since the last of May. I have three coups. One is my big main coup that could technically house all 15 hens (I have 2 rooster too), one large coup that was my original and one coup that I considered to be temporary. Its pretty large and the hens made it there got to nest box after i started letting the 4 young Golden Comets out to free range with the others.
We have had a issue with someone eating eggs. So my egg count dropped about the time it start getting real hot.
I put the fake eggs into the mest boxes of all three houses.
It appears some of the hens knew their was a egg eater amoung them. Because they have abandoned using the coup where the eggs were being eaten.
Yesterday we got zero eggs but we went out to check for eggs to hope to find them before any were eaten.
Today we already have 3 eggs and my oldest, Grandma, is sitting in a nest. I think she might be the egg eater.
