You know the teachers who have kids that take them to educational experiences all Summer like Williamsburg, Virginia, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Salem, Massachusetts. Also, we went to a local Science center. Then have those same kids help set up her classroom, cut out stuff for the next year, label things, and complain when her kids (who are teachers) try to have her to those same things because she's retired.
Yes 👏🏻 Now I can’t afford all of those kinds of fun trips but I am definitely a teacher mom on a budget 🤣 We already have it planned out as to when we go set up my classroom and get it ready 😂

There is also the Workaholic Teacher who creates all of their curriculum mapping and checks off every box on their professional-academic to-do list for most of the summer--whether by administrative requirement or personal choice on their part. As well as that similar/same teacher who works a summer job (whether teaching summer school or another seasonal job altogether) to either earn extra money or simply pay the bills over the summer because most teachers' salaries sadly end at the end of the month of the last day of school for the preceding school year.

All 15 school districts in the San Antonio area pay teachers year round. In fact I have never heard of a district in Texas that doesn’t pay teachers year round, so….it’s not a US custom or policy or whatever.

The hibernating teacher needs to have a laptop by them to watch netflix. Also a few hundred tabs open for jobs they hope to apply for that don´t involve teaching. My spirit animal is a cross between the hibernator and the exhausted one, with a touch of insanity because I'm teaching summer school.
The only thing that makes summer school at all doable is that there are no meetings, no hall duty, no trainings, no one looking over your shoulder and it’s a lot of extra money. We finished ours this past week so now I’m officially off.
I am definitely the hibernating teacher, and my Para is the gossiping teacher. While I'm at home for the summer, she would text me gossiping about what was going on in summer school. I was like I'm on break I don't give two cents about what is going on up at that school during the summer.

I'm a server. I remember one night when I was serving a family with an elementary aged boy. He saw his teacher and he was so excited. Thing is his teacher was at the bar enjoying a Happy Hour drink. The boy said, " There's my teacher! I want to go and say hi!" He then stood up and was about to walk over to her. I told him, "Looks like she's enjoying her juice by herself. Let's let her take a break."

Okay this JUST happened to me a week ago: For the passed 2 weeks, I had been getting weird looks, the silent treatment from women of a "certain cultural norm" if you will when I would be at the library, the coffee shop, the hardware store and the local McDonald's. Finally I got cornered at my laundromat and bombarded about how their 7-year-old demon isn't the problem, but the Dean who refuses to accept that its his time to leave the public school system. I looked at her and said, "I'm sorry, but WHO do you think I am?" She says the name of the new Director of some BS classroom or whatever to a school I DON'T teach at. Honey, the ONLY things I had common with the woman she mistaked me for was the short hair and dark skintone. I said, "Ma'am...I am not her. Sorry." She proceeds to ask me if I know who the hell she is, as if ALL black/brown folk know eachother. Needless to say she got an earful from me and her and her possy left with their faces covered and the laundromat attendant banning them from the place 😂😂😂😂 Racism at its best 🙄😵💫😑
These teachers get a break in the summer!? My wife taught for 34 years. Between having to go to continuing education, the paper work to get ready for the next year. We would take a 2 week vacation. Than it was right back to the grind for her. She is loving life now. She has retired. We vacation quit often. But because of a teacher shortage and a Sub shortage she now subs a few days a week when we are in town. They are begging her to come back and teach full time. She could make teacher salary and continue to collect her retirement. She said the reason she retire was because of all the paper. All the meetings. The always upheaval in changing how they wanted her top teach. She said no thanks.

In Puerto Rico, yearly salary is broken down into 12 months not 10 like in the U.S. So teachers get "paid" during summers no interruptions.
