I once plugged into a Two-Rock JM Sig, and every woman around me left the room visibly pregnant. Needless to say, I am no longer welcome in that maternity ward.
@@TheParanoidAndroid79 It’s called a hat on a hat in comedy. Basically a muddled unclear joke. You wrote a poorly constructed comment and you should probably just end it all
I play pretty well. Feelin the swag.. So I just walked into the strip club with my pants around my calves. They didn't care. Had to slip em a 100 to not call the cops.
He's really good, no doubt about that. I think his point was that pretty much nobody can even compare themselves to John Mayer, and about as many people can make these amps sound as good as he can.
I think the thing people need to keep in mind when listening to these two amps is that the JMOD is supposed to sound like an amalgam of JM’s favorite amps in 1. From 2008-2014 he ALWAYS combined the smooth and dark Two Rock Sig with the very stiff and bright Steel String Singer. The combo of those two amps together is what we all know as his live tone between that era. If you listen to the JMOD and think about it incorporating that stiff response and percussive quality of the SSS with the sound of the Two Rock, I think the JMOD is so spot on in combining those two different amps into 1.
On the strength of this, the Two-rock is in a class of its own. No question, for me anyway, but each to their own. Either way, the best gear here is Mr P. Honore.
This is 100% my favorite video so far from Andertons. Danish Pete is so good.. and he's so humble and genuine about his skill level. The Captains expressions are priceless.
Watching this video in 2019 makes me so happy for you guys! Taking about having not met John “yet” or even joked about him on the show, now it’s a reality! So excited for you guys, keep up the awesome work!
I watched this video with a smile on my face throughout it. This tone is one of the most inspiring sound from a guitarist. Incredible video! Thanks a lot! Cheers from Brazil
If you open a Dumble up you cannot see an awful lot as Alex has covered the circuits up with epoxy (although there's also a bit of a practical reason to do this) it all helps to add to the mystique ! Pete getting fantastic sounds here, really great !! Thanks to the lucky man who owns all that stuff, brilliant video really enjoyed it !
Jim Ryder The funny part is the owner of all this gear found your comment so amusing, he put it on his instagram story. I'm sure the guy definitely worked hard for it and I can guarantee that no parent would buy their child 40,000 + grand worth of gear. Which is ridiculous come to think about it...
I honestly love John Mayer, but I am just as quick to look up and listen to Pete. Superb player and one of my favorite RUclips personalities. The Captain is also a really smooth player in my opinion and very listenable. I always love to hear the Cap'n jam.
I don't know how this video has never been recommended to me by youtube and how it doesn't have millions of views. Thanks so much for giving these amps to pete and the captain.
Once a week, I come back and watch this video with my good headphones, then next week I'll watch Mick Taylor with the Dumble. Damn, you guys can got the TONE !
Never heard an AB of two amps that both sounded so GOOD! Usually there’s a clear winner with this kinda stuff, but both sounded so damn amazing. DAMN! Great great great playing Pete!
They both sound equally stellar. Thnx andertons for actually doing good useful compare videos. This video was more helpful than PRS own product videos of the jmod
The PRS is just amazong, the two rock sounds fantastic, don't get me wrong, but the PRS is just amazing for the John mayer stuff. The only time iit felt like it didn't have "as much" as the two rock was with the loop playing in the background, but I mean... John mMayer ain't got time for loops
10:33 - Captain gets it bang on there. Beginners need more compression to mask the inconsistencies and non-musicality of their picking dynamics, once you are at a high level of competence you can use the dynamic range as a tool to add another dimension to the sound. This is why practice amps are highly compressed and pro's like valve amps and less gain.
Holy crap that Two Rock is amazing. I'm at Aspen on holiday, and there is a Classic Reverb in the D'Angelico store here. I think I'm gonna go play it tomorrow.
Wow this video has some power!!! John just referenced the amp you mentioned on eBay and called out Two Rock on Instagram. Keep posting great videos and keep up the great work :)
Don't forget an equally important piece to the Mayer tone puzzle. The Blk1 Strat. The combination of the scooped pickups into a pair of mid-pushed amps makes for INCREDIBLE tone.
Pete if you would have switched to the middle pickup when trying to play "helpless" you would have nailed the tone! John plays it on his middle pickup when he plays it live. great video!
The Two Rock sounds like it fills that "deep sea of blankets" tonal range, warmth with clarity. Where the J-MOD just hits you with a percussive "cut" with a harmonic aura.
Holy cow, how could I have missed this one for over a year? Thanks for the amazing comparison. I think I need to watch it several times now to absorb all the details. Both are outstanding amps, and I see how the individual flavour of the amps appeals to different player preferences. To me, the TR started to outshine the PRS towards the end of the video, definitely in the looping part. Even adjusted for volume, the TR seems to be much fuller, and more mellow. Just gorgeous. Would love to own both, but I even count the JMOD to the unobtainium category :)
You know, these are great great amps but I found that if you don't use celestion g12-65's or clones of the same (weber 1265 og Wgs et65) no amp will sound right! I have a fender twin red knob that sounds fine with original speakers but when i plug my g12-65 loaded Marshall cab in it, it's on a whole other level. So much closer to the John Mayer tone!
John put a story on his Instagram explaining the one for $30,000 on eBay right now is actually a scratch amp that didn’t make it through his testing. You can clearly feel the animosity towards the brand as he goes on to explain how greed ruined their relationship.
The Two Rock sounds much more open and dynamic. The PRS is more polite. Pete does a great job showing this. The TR responds more to his hands and he wrings awesome tones from it. Back when all the Two Rocks were named after gemstones, a bunch of us got together with a guy who sold them on the side. He also had an early amp called a K&M Custom that was supposed to be a copy of the amp Bill and Joe made cloning Steve Kimock's Dumble. The then head of Guitar Center's west coast guitar department (the guy Robben called when he was looking for a new Les Paul) ordered a modification of one based on my ability to mimic Robben Ford tones with it. He couldn't do it, but he figured if I could, it was in there. He asked for 100W instead of 50 and add reverb. The first 100W Custom Reverb. It didn't have quite the response and available colors as the non-reverb Custom (that was a very special amp). And he flipped it after 6 months or so. Even though it was significantly more responsive than anything he had in the store. He's a solid player but that amp might have been too responsive for him, or responded in uncomfortable ways. Not long after I had the opportunity to play though Robben's backup Dumble. It took more than half my attention just trying to push tone up the wire. Serious work. Pete has great hands but I feel him when he says that it's hard. That experience of Robben's Dumble (along with his playing) really brought home how unique these people's abilities are. Just buying the stuff doesn't do it.
John Mayer Two Rock Signature is its own model that evolved from the Classic Reverb V2/3 (which evolved from a Dumble Overdrive Special) NOT the Steel String Singer. Two Rock made 3 total amps called the "Oak Cliff Special" which were exact replicas of SSS #002
Having an amp's electronics above the valves, being cooked, is a compromise that makes sense in a combo but surely very expensive heads should be the right way up.

I bet Pete has been waiting for this day, playing Mayer licks for 50minutes without anyone complaining!

Peter Honoré, the people's Mayer. 👍🎸 #danishmayer

Amazing :-)
This is without a doubt the best tones I ever heard in this channel.
Normally i am interested then they play everything with fuzz on and you can’t hear the difference between anything !
So true
Pete you're far too good a player to be so humble about it. If I could play like you I'd walk around with great flashing signs and a wind machine!
Stuart Carden it’s the fact that he’s so humble is one of the things that makes him so likeable.
Yes. Pete is awesome. I strive to be as humble as him.

On the strength of this, the Two-rock is in a class of its own. No question, for me anyway, but each to their own. Either way, the best gear here is Mr P. Honore.
Even through the compression of RUclips playback you can hear the depth and bloom of that Two Rock. The PRS can’t touch it.

Maybe the best guitar tones I've ever heard on youtube. Danish Pete is a great, great player. Made my day!
That Two Rock is just something else, and Pete dude, super super nice playing mate.

For me, the winner is Two-Rock. Tonally, his best era ever. (Oh, and when he was using a Strat, too).
Adam Lee you said it, bro.
btw... love your stuff!

Yeah, by far. Some of the live recordings are insane tone-wise (and I don't just mean WTLI).
The 335 test was very revealing - the Two-Rock was noticeably better with humbuckers to my ears.
I may be biased, as I have one, and it sings with a 335. Or any other guitar. It's remarkable.

Ferdi 😂 that's what I just did.

Having an amp's electronics above the valves, being cooked, is a compromise that makes sense in a combo but surely very expensive heads should be the right way up.
