I only started watching this like 10 episodes ago and I've consistently listened to alot of different podcasts (From the diabloiii podcast in 2008 to sam harris's podcast to cooking podcasts) and I think this is the most entertaining podcast ive ever heard, I mean the banter, the jokes, the subject matter are all 10/10. In regards to their discussion about Nicki, she's going through what can be referred to as a "crossroads moment", where she has to make a choice to either continue doing the same thing she's been doing her entire career, or reinvent herself. While she was still able to pull the #2 spot on the charts despite not putting out an album for 4 years, Travis "stealing" her position at #1 highlights a revelation about her career at this point; her wave is shifting. Not necessarily gone, but shifting. Her music still hits, but not the way that it used to when she first started. Hell, not even her 90+ million following worth of Brabz were able to get her to number 1(yet they still have time flex their twitter fingers deflecting any sort of criticism from Nicki), that is incredibly indicative that her momentum is shifting.
While her lyricism still top notch the content of her songs hasn't changed all that much, and in industry where new acts and MC's are produced DAILY, Nicki cannot afford to continue saying the same thing for the next half decade( nor can she continue to beef with twenty-something year old rappers when they're trying to secure their own bag).
QUEEN won't be the album that decides the trajectory of her career, but her it's her next album might.

Cardi needed Bruno Mars, Kodak Black (whose track she bit), Migos especially Offset, Kehlani, Chance, Ozuno and more (including Nicki and her high social media fan base that she gained from being a wild character stripper turned reality þv star tbh). Cardi would still be on LHH NY if it weren't for the male music artists she collaborated with. Female hip hop artists always gotta collaborate with a dude to get put on or help boost their project. All female hip hop artists. It's not new. Certainly Nicki getting on a record with 69 was a strategic move to boost her project given the landscape. The fact that people continue to try and shade Nicki to justify or prove their preference and favor for cardi is interesting. Nicki and cardi may be in the sane genre but they're not in the same lane. They didn't get their start or hit the scene the same and they don't have they same and they didn't rise with the same elements and they haven't been in the game for the same amount of time. Cardi is new and fresh and certainly hip hop needed a new female face so it's understandable cardi is well received. Her songs are catchy and all as well. But, that does not make her better or more credible or skilled or popular (factoring in the years in the music game) than Nicki no matter who Nicki choose to collab with and why. Let's keep things 💯.
