I just love this guy - you will not meet a more enthusiastic person in the whole of the music industry, and he does it all purely for the enjoyment of it as you can see from this performance. I remember the campaign to make this a hit single and how overjoyed John was when it got into the charts and he got to do this performance on TOTP. Thankyou John for bringing something different to UK music and for your brilliant entertainment.
I've been a fan of John since 'really free'. I'm in the process of bulding, what I consider, a world class recording studio. I hope to invite John up to it. I'd give him unlimited free time so that he could explore any music ideas he has. I think someone as talented as John will likely already have this but I can dream...lol
I've absolutely loved everything John's done since the seventies. There has to be people like John - an antidote to the nasty 'soshul meeja' garbage we have to soak up every day.
Love this guy, a real showman. When I'm feeling down I watch this and it puts a smile on my face. Moving to Ireland soon, hope he comes over there! Thanks a million!
i remember watching this. one of my favourite totp performances (up there with iggy doing real wild child). you can see he's sooo excited to be back on the pops. john's a diamond. he deserved it.
I had no idea this happened until I opened up my new xmas copy of Bunsun Burner lp and saw the sleeve notes -thought it must be gag. Put a really big smile on the face watching this.
@MarkRoberts63 House of the rising sun? That must have been bloody great! I was at his homecoming gig in Aylesbury and joined in. I videoed the gig but the sound is horrid..
If you know John personally, give him a message,The kid you lived next door too when u were at school.is now a womans specialist,At Darenth Valley hospital,Dartford Kent,He asked if you were still as excentric, YES.We met at Woodville Halls,Gravesend, you smoked my rollups. He wishes you all the BREAST.
My memories of John in the school playground holding his violin, being picked on my the other kids! Holding his own in a scrap, rock on john!!

I’m not arguing with anyone, but this is the best TOTP performance ever. I often have a cheeky watch of this is my mood gets a bit blue like cobalt.

Such respect for a man who does what he loves with his life. Respect, and just a little envy...

Saw him live doing his traditional May Day gig at 7.00 a.m. in Port Mahon Pub in Oxford!
Great stuff, thanks for posting that!
@MarkRoberts63 Me too! I love the look on Otway's face at the end of this clip - you can see how thrilled he is!
This was played nearly every evening by Johnny Walker on Radio 2. Its Bloody brilliant!!!!
Saw him perform in Loughborough Saturday night, pretty good
Otway shouting 'let me be your Bunsen burner' in a BBC studio is simply unbeatable.
Utter Genius!!
Heard John yesterday on Johnnie Walker's Sounds of the Seventies
You have to love Otway.
love it! :D
great cant help thinking of Rik Myall when he does this
Otway's the MAN!
Outstanding, in an Ian Dury sort of way! My college radio station used to play Headbutts all the time in the mid 80's - a US tour coming?
legend
I'm no scientist but my formula is as follows....acid+intelligence=creative genious
Have you tried covalent bonding? Well try putting these two together!
Genius.
I'm one of the singers on the B side
I've seen him preform live
His third cousin used to be the drummer in my old band
O. Good god
Brilliant - check out a fellow Otway fan at Andrew Cottingham and the Mysterious Ticking Noise

Otway - still punk at 50
@MarkRoberts63 Me too!
He is so bad and yet so undeniably entertaining at the same time.
2 hit wonder!! 😂
He looks like the love child of Robert Lindsay and Enoch Powell!
rik myall stole his material from john
