This is not the Vietnam War. This is not the 1960s or 70s. There is no draft. Our soldiers are not fighting in this war. We don't have control over what Hamas does, or Israel does. This is not helpful to either side.
We do have some control seeing as how the US give military aid to Israel.
Meanwhile, Congress just approved sending 100's of millions of dollars to aid this event we have no control over. We don't get to absolve ourselves from atrocities we merely fund. @@ruzaroosYes, they're very smart for sacrificing their futures for people who hate them.
@joeanderson8839 I agree with you 100%. I'm also really concerned by the fact that these students think they know more than our foreign policy than government experts do. And I really don't appreciate the fact that they've decided they know enough about the history of this conflict to take sides one way or the other. BOTH sides have legitimate grievances against the other, and the situation is extremely nuanced. Yet these kids believe they have all the answers. Young people have many legitimate reasons to be upset in this country--their fading economic futures, the results of climate change, widespread gun violence, serious threats to our voting rights and the future of Democracy, racial and LGBTQ discrimination, loss of women's right to bodily autonomy, and increased government corruption, among others. Why does it not surprise me that the angry protests associated with this particular cause might ALSO be an outlet for generalized fear and rage about their own futures and lack of control over it? There is reason to believe that charismatic leaders who have a particular agenda have seized this opportunity to channel people's need to express their feelings into actions that support those leaders' cause. On October 7, 2024, Hamas pulled off the perfect PR stunt, knowing full well how Israel would respond. We are watching their audience react.
