- A principal performed life-saving CPR after a student collapsed and stopped breathing. Jody Sowards says he wasn’t sure what was going on when a colleague told him he needed to come help a student. Timothy Johnson, an eighth-grader, was participating in a basketball exercise when he started feeling unwell. He left the gymnasium and went to sit in the hallway, hoping to recover, but he went unconscious and fell to the floor. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
You can see in the principal's eyes that he's the right kind of educator you want in your child's life. He really cares...kudos to you!

Things like this make me happy that I took first aid courses in college. You never know when you gotta be the guy to jump in and possibly save a life.
Sucks when you don't save the life though. Be prepared for that.
I thought it was common practice for school employees to have first aid, CPR and AED training. maybe that's just in a few places but that should be the standard for everyone no matter the profession
I always wonder why it is not mandatory for people to start learning this as soon as they start school (adapting what can be done for each age and physical strength, obviously!). Teaching just how to call the emergency is not enough, we need to know these things precisely to ensure that the sick/injured person has a greater chance of surviving
Is it not mandatory for at least teachers to get training

You know how incredible this is? A survival rate for CPR is like 5% outside of hospitals, but it's better than nothing, great work
Really? Only 5% that’s a lot lower than I thought
@@maxfr142 not a lot of people know CPR, or if they do they don’t do it properly
Just looked it up and it’s closer to 10% survival rate according to the American Heart Association. Because people don’t know that basic chest compressions is all it takes to keep someone going while waiting for EMS. So sad. My entire family should know how to do this due to my parents health issues yet none of them do except me 🙃 and most of them don’t see it as important to learn.
@@AandM8 my folks don't either because they don't want to have to die all over again and they have a do not resuscitate order
@@Former_Pastor
That's sad. Thanks to quick action by my building maintenance man who found me and first responders who quickly arrived I am alive today after suffering a cardiac arrest, kidney dialysis and 3 days on life support. I am happier now than before due to having a whole new perspective on life .😊
I took a cpr course twice because my dad has Coronary Artery disease and is prone to heart attacks, so far me and my mom haven’t had to give him cpr but we need to be prepared should we have to. This principle is a hero
Everyone should learn how to do it. Even if you don't get re-certified. My sister and I took a course, too. My best to you and your family.
I had a friend pass away from what appeared to be a stroke. She had a known heart murmur but the day she suffered an episode, no one around her knew what to do. Her family panicked and it was during COVID and they lived out in the country so the paramedics took forever. She had been without oxygen too long and was brain dead once she got to the hospital. She was only 23. She was my age. I think everyone should take time to learn what to do, because this could have given her more time.
@@cantfiteveryheart I agree..
@@christopherhubbard256 my mother is 79 and has a DNR order. If she drops nobody is allowed to touch her or she'll sue, so beware
@@SUGAR_XYLER Thank you. I really haven't thought about that. Does she wear a bracelet or something so people know of it? If not, she should. Everyone who has a DNR should wear one.
This principal is a hero he needs a raise ❤🙏thank god the boys he's OK❤❤
Who gives the principala raise?
It’s not about money alm the time it’ s about the satisfaction of saving a life helping when no one else knows what to do but stand there and lokk while the person is possibly dying in front of them
I'm glad that the principal was able to keep his student alive until help arrived and take him to the hospital. I hope that the student fully recovers and is able to return back to school. I would do the same thing if someone isn't breathing but I may need to learn how to do CPR correctly.

@@o_kneepixel
Ty for this lol! I haven’t learned hands on CPR but I’ve seen videos on it. A doctor once said that doing CPR with the ‘stayin’ alive’ beat really helps tho.

There plenty of places that offer Free CPR classes to anyone wishing to learn, I was trained by my local sheriff's office as a Detention Officer, at church I was called to another classroom during the Sunday service because they knew I had the training. A 6 year old girl had choked on a nickel, I directed 911 to be called, more like Ordered it, then explained quickly what I was going to do to the young girl and performed the Heimlich maneuver and she swallowed the nickel, but she was breathing very well and was alert the entire time. I went into a room crying as the children's pastor prayed with me. She is alive and well today thank God!! My training kicked right in with no thought of what to do next!!!
I almost cried when they showed the student
He seems like such a sweet kid, I can't imagine how scary the situation must've been, thank God for people like him.
Much respect to this Principal for his act of kindness and life-saving CPR. I hope he will be rewarded.
Performing CPR is EXHAUSTING. Your everyday person probably wouldn’t be able to keep going long enough. The fact he kept going until help arrived shows he wasn’t gonna give up on that kid. 10/10 principal
I want him as my principal, he seems so kind, loyal, brave, trustworthy and hardworking.

A teen in my city fell and died in the river that runs through downtown, years back.
Praise God that this young man is ok🙌✝️💜. And kudos to the Principal and others who helped him. Beautiful to see people help each other. God's Love and Blessings.
Him saying "it's not hero worthy, because it's something I'm supposed to do! " Is exactly why he's a HERO ❤️❤️❤️

This here is why teachers/principals should go through a first aid class (and keep their cert updated) My school actually had the machine encased in glass for people with no pulse. Idk what it's called but it was always near a gym.
