母成峠古戦場碑を訪ねました。戊辰戦争の戦いの１つである母成峠の戦いがあった場所です。会津藩と二本松藩の境になります。福島県猪苗代町にあります。

戊辰戦争とは、慶応４年１月３日に始まる鳥羽・伏見戦争から上野戦争、そして北越（北陸）戦争・東北戦争、さらに翌明治２年５月に終わる箱館戦争までの戦争の総称です。明治元年（慶応４年９月８日改元）が干支で戊辰の年にあたるので、この呼称がつけられています。
母成峠の戦いは、慶応４年８月２１日、２２日に十六橋の戦い、２３日午前１０時には、西軍（政府軍）が会津城下に突入しています。
　東軍の戦死者は、お墓に埋葬することが許されませんでした。許されたのは明治２年２月です。半年以上も放置されたままでした。
