  • Chapter 2: Why Do Authoritarian Countries Fear the West?
Authoritarians don’t fear the West, they fear losing control of their own people. H. R. McMaster describes his experience working for the White House and how he tried to overcome some of the shortcomings of previous administrations, which he had criticized. McMaster explains how to craft an assumption and discusses why we failed to anticipate Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

CCP is taking most resources away from the population (the state enterprises advance, the private sectors retreat)so nobody has any possibility to challenge the party’s rule. They make sure it’s practically impossible for people to rise up to the regime. But the track leads down to just one destination since it doesn’t work at the end in terms of building a productive and prosperous society. I see China eventually either have a Soviet Union collapse moment and split into many different smaller nations, or turning into a giant copy of North Korean, which Xi himself doesn’t mind. (To Quote Xi’s speech on NK in a party meeting: What’s wrong with North Korean? Don’t believe hearsay. You guys should go check it out with your own eyes, they do just fine. Other than the economy being weak, everything else is pretty great. The people worships the party. And within the party there is high sense of unity. They can easily stay in power for another 100 years. This is something we Chinese communists really should learn from them.)
