  • We have a small field that every year we harvest small bales of hay from. It's hard work, small bales weigh 25kg and we can get 300-400 bales from it.
This year has been so wet that despite the extra long drying time the outer rows couldn't be baled (they kept breaking the sheer pin on the baler!). So this year we took 270 bales and round baled the rest.
Small bales are great for us, we can carry them around relatively easily, where as the round bales are quicker and cheaper to bale, and can be wrapped in plastic to be kept outside, much easier.
Next year we'll do a whole video from start to finish. But looking back at this video of us bayling hay in the one sunny break of this very wet year, it's great to watch the kids playing with their friends, making memories and connecting to the season.
