- The F8F-1 is a Rank III BR 5.0 fighter with excellent flight performance but rather subpar guns, making it a great rat plane. The flight performance will give you many opportunities to take good shots, but it may take a couple passes to dispatch an enemy.
You can take the gunpods if you'd like for a total of 8x .50cals but I prefer having the flight performance.

Weirdly enough, I treat the F8F as almost like a mutant P-47 that you can be hyper aggressive with. It loses energy quickly in turns, but when going vertical, this can actually help with keeping you on the tail of an enemy aircraft and avoid over shoots. Not only that, the plane shits out energy making it where you have a similar effect with F4Us, P-47s and P-38s where you just hang around in the air, making stall fighting insane. Run 2.5k out from an enemy (This is if he is trying to chase you to the ends of the earth), loop over, abuse the engine, go vertical, watch as Spitfires are going "What the fuck bro?" as you pull energy out of your ass and just climb out of their nose all the time and energy trap them.
Highly underrated plane and I think people look at it but don't really know how to fly it because it's design is so _weird._
Also for the I-225. It has decent turn but that's the thing. It's not that it turns great at low speeds it's that it's high-speed compression is absolutely awful which makes it's low speed turn look amazing by comparison. It's a weird conundrum of an aircraft because you'd think it'd be great at high speeds, but it's not. It's literally just a decent fighter at high altitude and any lower makes it worse. It kinda feels like a Russian take on a U.S. aircraft but they don't quite understand what made U.S. aircraft great. It's definitely not bad by any means, but if it didn't have 4 20mm cannons, I legit believe the aircraft might be 4.7 or even lower-basing off how gaijin can make planes shoot up in BR simply because of armament.
By the way, the same MEC setup you do with the P-47 you can do to the F8F. I put my prop pitch around 85-89
and rads at around 25 percent or so and for mixture I turn up to around 90. More fuel will actually cool your engine
maybe someday I'll be willing to learn how MEC works but for now I'm okay not using it since I think i perform well enough without it
Should the rads always be at 25 or is that just for combat?
I’m just about to unlock this plane so this video is a really interesting! Great video!
Do be aware that this gameplay is probably not representative of how most games will go, its pretty common to get a bunch of hits and then not be able to finish enemies before they rtb. I just didn't include them cuz it would make the video long and would be kinda boring.

If the guns work for you then that's great. There is a reason that the same airframe is at 6.3 with 4x 20mms tho...

A plane i would like to see someone fly is the A-36 Apache, kinda like a 3.0 br attack role mustang that can carry gunpods to get a total of 10x .50 cals. I feel it’s an interesting plane but nobody ever talks about it, i can’t even find a video from Defyn on it, would be a good one for a video of yours
I'm not sure if there would be all that much to talk about, it seems to fall into the "plane at low rank/br facing inexperienced players, with mediocre flight performance that gets an airspawn but can carry good guns so can wipe a team earlygame" category like the Ju87 with gunpods, the US divebomber with gunpods, the early IL2s, the Hs129b2, etc.
Probably the main reason why it's not covered so much is cuz its 3.0 rank II so most people don't really play it, but I'll take a look at it.
@@CatWerfer yeah i used it to seal club the other night for a few matches, besides that it was unremarkable, it compresses, under powered and doesnt want to turn so i basicly turned into a bootleg fw190 pilot with it
There's a few acronyms you use but by the way awesome flight I can't think of any other video I watch that had a better teaching moment than what you showed but even a veteran fighter like me but not for RB of course not yet what does m e c or m e r and a bunch of the other abbreviations you said I'm probably going to say oh yeah but damn I can't think what they might be so it's driving me crazy if you could help with a text or return comment in the box that would super great and also greatly appreciated not overload thank you for the video

MEC: Manual engine control, used to change propeller pitch, engine fuel/air mixture ratio, radiator intake, and a few other things. I don't use it but there are guides on how to online. I mentioned it because the f8fs engine likes to overheat so you can enlarge the radiator air intake to cool the engine more but it also increases drag.
MER: maneuvering energy retention, how well a plane holds its speed while turning. The f8f and a lot of American propeller fighters generally have a bad MER but perform best at high speeds so in dogfights its best to start with altitude and do maneuvers that involve diving to be able to regain speed if you lose too much while turning.
LER: linear energy retention, how well a plane holds its speed when flying in a straight line above its top speed. Generally US props have a good LER so if necessary, you can often dive and run away to disengage and most enemies won't be able to catch you

It would be amazing if you covered the 190 F-8.
It's an amazing aircraft and a lot of fun. Perhaps the worst flight characteristics of any 5.0, but you get an air spawn and it's a 190.
I'll try it in air rb sometime down the line. I like playing it in ground rb cuz people don't know ur a fw until they're close so its very easy to get people to overshoot, so its fun for playing combat air patrol

F8f-1 is after recent BR changes basically the only version of Bearcat that you will not feel as being punished for playing.
All the other versions on BR 6.0 and 6.3 get almost exclusively uptiered where you will be faced against not only Me 262 but also post war planes like F-80 or SK-60 and Su-9.
You are basically a free exp. You wont be even able to farm bombers as most bombers on this BR will be the Ju-288 which will be on its way to base after already dropping their load, before you even climb to decent altitude.
Lol I had a previous commenter with the exact opposite opinion. While I agree with you more in that I think the f8f1 is better for its br, I still think the 6.3 f8f1b with the 20mms are good if you're confident with your aim with the guns. They have good velocity and killing power and since the airframe is still good, you can go toe to toe with most of the superprops as long as it isn't a spitfire or or a yak3u or something like that. As for jets, while they're fast and can boom and zoom, that's usually all they can do. If your aim is good, you can push headons, and vs jets you'll almost always win if they decide to stick a turnfight since once they're slow, early jets have very bad acceleration
@@CatWerfer Dont want to be rude, but if recommendation for a plane is "just do a head on and hope your opponents dont knw their planes" for it to be good then... well its not really that good. As said, played about 20 matches in F8F-1B and about 15 of them i was faced against jets, usually being only prop in the team. It is a great prop plane. But it rarely fights in its weight class
@@gronthgronth2628 my point was moreso that jets can't really do anything but boom and zoom. if you catch them slow or have good positioning then you can often get the better of them. I personally have a harder time dealing with other props like the p51h, yak3u, and spitfires since they can just turn and energy with you, while for jets you really just need to dodge them once and snipe them on their escape pass

Yeah thats just the first thing that came to mind when I thought of the nimble fast airplane with an engine constantly having a temper tantrum but not enough firepower
The performance is pretty good but it's quite hard getting used to the 4x .50 cal ngl

I could, but I feel like I won't have that much to add to the conversation. The Yak-3U has been covered by people like Defyn quite a few times so you could go watch his videos. If you'd still like my opinion on it, I'll put it on the list.

The version with the fast firing 20mm is so much better. Fast agile and has the much needed burst to instantly drop fighters and actually tear up bombers
I think their flight performance is equivalent... the 20mm bearcat is good too, but 6.3 is a rather annoying br to play at
@@CatWerfer IMO the 20mm are still needed, 6.0 BR is kinda of ruined with the lack of axis fighters and everyone running Ju288C’s but that’s why I love running it in my 6.3 ground line up. The 20mms rip anything in the skies and the 3 1k bombs that you can single drop are great against anything below. It’s also fantastic to fly in sim

yeah…50 cals, real bad guns, huh…i hear mimimi…they still fly like laserbeams and set everything on fire.
even if i use the premium p-51s with only 4 of them to get assists for daily missions, i kill most of the times, when i am only trying to crit…
whilst german minengeschosse are a joke nowadays…
there was a point in time when the guns had their fire damage nerfed but i think they're much better currently.
they're still nowhere as good as they used to be before bullet drag nerfs were implemented, back then you could get snipes from 2km away but now the bullets sorta just fall out of the air after 1km.
and yeah, they really did the german mineshells dirty, especially the 20mm mg151s. A shell with the explicit purpose of being filled with as much explosive as possible to disintegrate bombers, now barely doing any damage...
at least the 30mm mk108s are still really good at destroying anything they hit
@@CatWerfer i wished there was one kind of gun, where i could reliably crit enemies, without completelly killing them. now everything seems kinda random a lil bit. before those changes the 50 cals were like a scalpel...now they either ruin the enemies day by setting him on fire or they do nothing...but i think they are still better than a lot of other weapons...
@@Siddich yeah ever since realshatter everything is a diceroll... I feel like the .50cals could fit that role if you're playing at jet tier, it usually takes more than 2 sprays to down a mig15 in a sabre or early G91

If I had more ammo or if the guns had a higher kill potential there then i probably would've stuck thr fight but if i were to run out of ammo mid fight that would've been too risky. If they waited and 2v1ed me after I had rearmed then I would've taken it :/.

@@CatWerfer He's being stupid. "They/them" was always perfectly fine in English to refer to a specified indivdual of indeterminate gender anyway. Like when you see someone doing something but don't know who or what they are, you point and say "hey what are THEY doing" or "hey look at them." Ignore the moron.
