I just realised something when joe and peter find their family members. They both killed theme at the end of the song . Except for ida, who just got corrupted.
It’s probably because Peter & Joe were fighting people that they don’t get along with, despite being family. It’s the same reason Peter attacks Ernie brutality. The Darkness is bringing out Peter & Joe's negative emotions towards people and manipulating them into brutality killing those people (or, attempting to in Ernie's case). Quagmire would probably do the same to Brian if he encountered him.

Here's the thing with Peter, he wasn't faking out he was actually trying to break free but at the end of the song, he was thinking about his vengeance on Karen instead of trying to break out of the darkness which caused him to possibly be completely taken by the darkness.
Not gonna lie, it would have interesting if Karen would've survived longer. I can also see that Peter is trying to fight back but he thinks the darkness is too powerful and doesn't want to fight back.
