I just bought a set of bowls online. When they arrived I took them out of the box - I thought I had ordered 3, but I forgot I had changed my mind and ordered 4. There were 3 in one small box inside, while a 4th was hiding in packing materials. Well, the 4th bowl was still in the box as I tossed it in my glowing burn barrel. Not only did it survive, but all the charred black from the cardboard packaging came right off with a Brillo pad, and didn't even scratch the surface! Still looks new! Pretty impressive, I have to say. 👍😎
Just for clarification Corelle is chip and break RESISTANT, not proof. Of course if you drop it on stone or concrete it will break. The point is its more difficult to damage than other dishware.
I don't know if you have ever broken one of these, but I have. I got really pissed off one time and thew one of the cups. It went off like a grenade. It was really impressive.
They explode like grenades. I had one my daughter broke behind me at the sink actually hit me 10 ft away at the stove. Took forever to clean up and some shards even bounced out of the kitchen on to the dining room carpet 😮
I notice comments saying that this makes the process looks automated. Genuinely, what the people do in the glassware factory is extremely unglamorous and not all that interesting for a quick informational blip like this. Every dish is hand inspected multiple times, as well as running through all sorts of other processes. I'm pretty sure World Kitchen isn't ashamed of it's employees, but rather realized that no one wants to see PLIs and Warehandlers. lol.
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome & compare us medical zebras to this lovely brand. We are resilient & strong but damn when we break it’s bad & there’s no coming back 🦓💪🏽
It's really a mystery because we've had them fall further than that, numerous times, and they didn't break. But I can understand why it would shatter like this - it's similar to tempered glass. And sometimes tempered glass can "spontaneously" shatter due to tiny imperfections.
Its so funny watching this cause a lot of the designs Corelle doesnt even make anymore hahaha I only like these cause they are light. I dont care if they break cause I can just REPLACE IT FOR FREE.... u can replace any of ur broken corelle plates or bowls or mugs for FREE at ur local corningware store..... i know... cause i work at one. hahaha :]
well it's now obvious why they have had issues with the production runs, when they constantly dilute the recycled materials at some point the mixture is not quite right, I'd have to guess the original plates from the 70s did not feature as much recycled glass.
You're assuming that a company with profits probably in the tens of millions of dollars per year doesn't use spectography to check the recycled glass mixture for consistency.....
1lapmagic from the bubbling and imperfections found in plates I ordered defiantely not with a consistency that gives them better than 80% quality per volume, I've got multiple boxes of imperfect plates purchased directly at full retail.
The Tinfoil Tricorn Imperfect plates has nothing to do with the consistency of the recycled glass -- or if it does, you have no way of knowing it. Deformed plates is just a natural consequence of the way they're manufactured so incredibly quickly I think..and lack of quality control. I just got my first set of Corelle ever today, all of it looks perfect.
1lapmagic yes the first couple of sets we purchased were in fact flawless, and we purchased those on the basis that the far older versions from the 70s are still in use today so it's a great product but the quality control is suffering some issues.
The Tinfoil Tricorn I did get one ceramic cup that was incorrectly finished-- it looks like trash bits of ceramic fell down into the cup. Not a big issue since I was planning on giving half the cups to Goodwill anyway.
Leaded glass isn't inherently unsafe so long as its washed after use. Only new glass decanters for storing alcohol are unsafe because the alcohol leaches out the lead near the surface. However, after a few uses there is no danger at all
Island Folk The company doesn’t recommend heating vitrelle glass above 250°F or 350°F (depending on what parts of the glassware), apparently. Be careful cooking with them. I’m trying to find more information about what they’re made of and their reactivity- I’d like to use some old saucers as labware- but there’s a strange scarcity of information online about them. Next, to Google Patents.
are you love these but when are you going to come out with the Fiesta color the square ones and I love this the pasta place that used to have long time ago you don't have no more what if you make them in squares
Why did mine explode today? According to the manufacturing process, this glassware can take several thousand degrees of heat, yet it couldn't take a hot burritto being placed on it. Very strange indeed.
Mary Finn More than likely it had already suffered stress from being dropped. Or it could of been a manufacturer defect, if you live within a reasonable distance of one of their stores I highly recommend you gathering up the pieces and taking it back. They should happily replace for you :-)
Mary Finn It was probably damaged earlier. They are break-resistant but after a few falls they will eventually fail - and when they do they tend to shatter into a million pieces.
rating: minus infinity. I copied this exerpt from a corelle complaints forum. trying to protect my beloved human and canine and feline race. buyer beware. "Have had several explode upon dropping them thru the years. The latest incident & by far worst was taking 5 dishes to feed my dogs & one slipped out of my hand exploding on the ground & about destroyed my dogs. Glass was everywhere as far as 12 feet away on top of a table & microwave. Glass was in my feet. I was yelling at the dogs to stay away cause they wanted to eat the food & didn't know that millions of pieces of sharp glass was all over. Well I had to check their feet for several days. I had to use a needle to get the glass out of my feet & legs. Took me hours to clean up this mess & found glass days later under furniture in a different room. Do not use for dog food. Wow. Scary."
He said no such thing. Corelle is made from a glass product known as Vitrelle, which is what he's saying. Also this was in 2009, A.I speech wasn't a thing.

My mom was a corelle owner as am I and my daughter. Love them all. I wish they would come back with the hook cups!

Which it most definitely *IS.*
I like this stuff, and it’s pretty much all I use, being as clumsy as I am from birth.
I don't know if you have ever broken one of these, but I have. I got really pissed off one time and thew one of the cups. It went off like a grenade. It was really impressive.
Corelle was part of the Corning Glass family
Unfortunately when they do break it almost explodes sending shards of glass everywhere.

@Kojichao If you look at the trimming operation, quite a bit of glass gets trimmed off the plate mold. That's the majority of the recycled materials.
Never realized how hard the music goes in these sometimes 😅
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome & compare us medical zebras to this lovely brand. We are resilient & strong but damn when we break it’s bad & there’s no coming back 🦓💪🏽
I had a bowl fall out of an RV cabinet about 2 feet (max) onto a Corian table. Smithereens!

But we are such a handsome bunch !!!
watching this, i'm surprised as how much things are changing in the factory
dropped one of these (a bowl) on a rug from about 3 ft and it shattered into a thousand pieces
i love it too~
Wait, what? 65% recycled materials from previous runs? Just how many of these dishes come off as rejects to get that much?
@iToasterman Not everyone does, apparently. :P

That enamel paint has lead according to corelle!

@HoneyIShrunkTheKids2 Corning NY, yup.
@Kojichao err id say 65% ?
240 at its finest
Imagine licking that red hot plate straight from the cutter! What would it taste like? Vanilla? Salty?
According to Ralph, it would taste like "burning."
It would taste like PAIN
Can I use Corelle bowl or plate for steaming food? Will it withstand the steam?
In my experience yes
@@LiquidRetro , thanks

@@coyotedomino they're soda-glass, all surfaces are Glass, including the patterns on the surface (screen-printed with glaze-ink and then re-fired)

i also plan for this time of plant will u plz help me...? i want to start in india
You do realize that the chap who uploads these videos doesn't actually make corelle plates, right?
I am very scared of this time bomb.
Corelle only "explodes" when hit very hard or dropped on a hard surface from over five feet.

These shows expose trade secrets
There's not exposing anything the companies don't want exposed. They don't break into the companies' factories to film them. They get permission.
