I thought that I would never hear this album again. It was a Christmastime staple in our house, and I have tried everything I could think of to find it! Seeing this album cover instantly transported me back 40 years! Thank you so much!!!!!
Glad you enjoy it. As I went to the trouble of converting the LP to a digital formal, I thought perhaps others would appreciate the music as well. Cheers.
Many thanks. I have lived enough decades from when the Top 40 Carols were my lifeblood and utter joy...to now when they are so oft repeated that I must mute them. THIS music is RESTORATIVE at this time of year. Thank you.
Someone left a comment saying that this music is "noble". It is, and it ennobles us by extension as we hear it. Who do we have to thank for music like this from the past? The kings, queens, nobles, or high ranking clergy who commissioned it. These were the same people who founded, commissioned or supported universities, libraries, cathedrals, and great works or music and art, and all of these things ennoble us as well, even though we may lack formal titles. Monarchy, like any form of government, has had bad or inept people associated with it, but name one democracy or socialist or communist government that has bequeathed to the human race the kind of music that we are now hearing. A good monarchy is the embodiment of the history and shared goals and aspirations of the people; its pomp and ceremony, its music, is for us, and in a sense, IS us - at our noblest and our best.
Im so excited christmas time music 🥹🥲🎄✝️🇬🇧🌹 Im so happy I having twins babies a little months and next year I will called the Nativity of Derek and Odette just like Nativity of Jesus
Both Renaissance & Baroque music are wonderfully so much more lively/energetic and the latter lengthily devoted to the subject, unlike today where it's pushing it for a piece to last more than a few minutes, and the quality of today's so-called "melody" and "harmony" is too abysmal to describe, more noise than music, so this beauty is a real treat for a change! Thanks!!!
I want to thank you for the joy and enrichment your musical offerings have brought into my life these past couple of years, especially during the Christmas season (when I need it most). RUclips really steered me right in this case; I searched for the music I love, and your channel came up repeatedly. I am most grateful!
What a seasonal gem you have gitfted us! Your care for hewning, fine tuning an original sound and the sheer sharing of it augments one's Yuletide considerably with quality, rarity and more meaningfully. Joyeux Noel 2017!
This is one of a number of albums of this type, including Nonesuch Christmas, which are all wonderful. Like jazz, and some other types of music, classical appeals to both the heart and the head. Hoomeyow!!
back in the 60s, my family had 4 Christmas albums: the Obernkirchen children's choir, some fellow named John Gary, and Dylan Thomas reciting A Child's Christmas in Wales. And A Baroque Christmas. I found this on LP a few years back but it's nice to be able to hear it right on my computer without having to wire up the turntable. Thank you so much.
We also had A Child’s Christmas in Wales, poetry by Dylan Thomas. My dad’s medical partner ws the one who gave it to our family as a gift one Christmas, and I, a teenager at the time, was the only one in the family who liked it. And a couple of years later I was surprised to find that Joan Baez recited one of the Dylan poems on one of her albums: something about the deep woods. Anyway, other Christmas fare was the traditional carols, Hansel’s Messiah, the Schubert Ave Maria, and , since my family is Cuban, some traditional villancicos in Spanish. How times have changed!
@@martaacosta4415 I just listened to this again a few nights ago. Was missing my family and this is such a calming, majestic album. Things may have changed, but kids these days have massive access to more music than we could have dreamed of. My kid listens to *everything* including Louis Armstrong, Dead Can Dance, Weird Al Yankovic, Eddie Vedder, Led Zeppelin, Tom Lehrer, Tibetan throat singing, Carole King, and klezmer. I think it's wonderful! P.S. if you like this or if you also enjoy Gregorian chant, check out "An English Ladymass" by Anonymous 4. It's utterly gorgeous. :-) Merry Christmas, Marta.
Thank you. I used to have this LP and had totally forgotten about it. I appreciate you posting this. The recording still sounds as fresh and wonderful to my ears as it did 40 years ago. BRIAN
Baroque is the way forward when it comes to Christmas! I'm 38 and have been enjoying it since my 20s. Never ever fails, and I am very thankful I was born into a musical family with a fond appreciation for such styles.
Appropriate, Baroque meaning pearl, a treasure also of great beauty. Wikipedia: "The word "Baroque", like most periodic or stylistic designations, was invented by later critics rather than practitioners of the arts in the 17th and early 18th centuries. It is a French transliteration of the Portuguese phrase "pérola barroca", "irregular pearl", and natural pearls that deviate from the usual, regular forms so they do not have an axis of rotation are known as "baroque pearls".[35]"
Michael Haydn is hardly a Baroque composer, but that's nitpicking. This is glorious music for Christmas. Thanks so much for the upload & Merry Christmas to all.
When the world crumbles, when the structures of a civilization falter, it is good to return to that which in history does not flex, but on the contrary recovers courage, gathers the separated, pacifies without bruising. It’s worth recalling that the genius of creation is also moving in an history devoted to the destruction !
Wonderful recording; I've had this vinyl since 1969 and even had it autographed by Johannes Somary many years ago when I was visiting New York City. A Classic!
I so appreciate this. I am sure it would be a treasured piece in my vinyl collection. Even though it has been over a decade since I was a practicing Christian, I still so enjoy Christmas Early Music.
I still have a copy, but it's hashed, and I have no turntable. I have been searching for a digital copy for three years now. It's so good to hear it--thank you!!
Brilliant Michael Haydn 42:04 "Lauft, ihr Hirten, allzugleich"; as well as his the Masses. Michael Haydn is more talented than Josef Haydn and Amadeus Mozart.
i can't even explain to people why I feel bad. I feel so lost and confused. I can't figure out who to talk to. Everyone seems judgmental. I don't know who I am. Can't remember anything from my life. All I know is I feel kind of scared and lonely. But I don't know what I want. I miss tasty food and feeling more energy. I can cope with that. Its something deeper that feels missing. I can;t understand myself. I can't express myself. Its like there is nothing in my brain without a memory. Can I still feel anything if I don't have a memory? I think so like when I get yelled at I feel sad. Still i feel so stuck. I don't want to feel valuable. I want to feel happy. Yet I don't even know what that means. I know right now I am not happy/feeling good. I mean in my body I don't feel good for sure, I have constant stomach pain and pressure inside and real fatigue. But in my mind it also feels like an empty box. My thoughts are like a blank piece of paper that sometimes gets burned. My ambitions are none bc i can't remember what is meaningful to me. All i can think of is i love tasty food. And I get upset when my health gets worse. I think about SEX a lot and it bothers me. Its not fun to think about it. I think its telling me I am obsessed with something. I don't understand the words "people love you". What do they mean? And what do I love? I can't remember. Its not that I don't love anything. I can;t remember what i love if i do. sometimes I wish I was retarded so that I could get more help figuring out what I can do with my life and figuring out what I like or want to do. I can't even remember my options. I even forget what parks I can go to unless i look at my list on my computer which is like my brain.
Merry Christmas 2023

Mine house, too! So happy to have found this - it will be on all season!
Glad you enjoy it. As I went to the trouble of converting the LP to a digital formal, I thought perhaps others would appreciate the music as well. Cheers.
The real meaning off Christmas. May Peace, happiness and kindness fill our lives
Awesome, gorgeous music....another gift from western civilization...
So very thankful for ageless music such as this. They don't make music like this any longer. ♪♥♥♪
Many thanks. I have lived enough decades from when the Top 40 Carols were my lifeblood and utter joy...to now when they are so oft repeated that I must mute them. THIS music is RESTORATIVE at this time of year. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this deeply beautiful music.

One of the best of its genre. Multitudes of good graces and thanksgivings to you all!

If it ain't baroque, don't fix it!
Send me the sheet music. But if it ain't Baroque don't FAX it.
Thank you. I used to have this LP and had totally forgotten about it. I appreciate you posting this. The recording still sounds as fresh and wonderful to my ears as it did 40 years ago. BRIAN

Deeply satisfying...
Music from heaven! Thank you for sharing it with the world. (December 4., 2017)

Tj Aruspex-sounds ok to me, thanks. I can't wait to burn it to CD, add to my beloved collection of seasonal bliss. Ah Christmas music. T'is thee best.
What is the name of the soloist in the second piece? She has a wonderfully crystal-clear voice; awesome.
+Frank Smith Elizabeth Humes Yes she is very good... Love the relatively limited vibrato ... which adds to the clarity.
comment vous dire merci de nous offrir le fruit du travail de générations qui croyaient au Ciel ?
Good
Woooo!!
First for this season baby!! :)
Merry Christmas B*tches!!
+ChromeArty XD
Μεγαλειώδες!!!
To me this sounds infinitely more like Christmas then any of the cheesy crap they play non stop on the radio. Save me from "Holiday Music".
Brilliant Michael Haydn 42:04 "Lauft, ihr Hirten, allzugleich"; as well as his the Masses. Michael Haydn is more talented than Josef Haydn and Amadeus Mozart.
Each in his own way. Mozart in opera and concerto, Joseph Haydn in symphony and string quartet, and Michael Haydn in sacred music.

The time stamps are so and so
It sounds cool at 1.25 and 1.5 speeds!
Viel zu viel Vibrato, Barockmusik ist keine Oper! Schade!
I love baroque instrumental music, but the singing is really irritating. I normally just skip it.
