I think it was great. Couldve have been an opportunity for most of us. It meant the growth of cultural demand is bigger than anticipated. Open source is the way of the future. We should be so honored to pass on the values of why H4xx3rz / Cyberpunk culture started. Woz and Stallman are great examples of tech leaders. We pass on the value that... Infomation wants to be free.
Always good to see a different perspective on things. Talking to "culture", they had the feds giving talks and booths on the floor. This was never the culture. Whatever happen to "spot the fed"? The world of the underground never had any social identity. In fact, it's always been about anonymity more than anything else. Now it's all about proving as much social virtue as possible. I feel the hacker / open source culture has been left to the wayside in favor of money and political ideology. Scrapping pretty much what all of us early guys were all about. We communicated on BBS's / IRC / Newsgroups to share the info openly (to those that could find it lol). I think that's why so many of us are bummed in the direction. Hacking has always been about going against the system, being rebellious, and breaking the rules. Now it's about inclusion and conformity 🤮. But hey... just my 2 cents. Next year, I'll just watch the highlight reels online (if there are any).
@@nyedisiam agreed to some extent. Black/ Gray/ White hat... the culture has definitely evolved. Its their prerogative to choose what to be. Power to the user and anonymity should not have to be choice of exchange. Though there are people out in open source trying to uphold privacy as a personal right, not having it as an option is definitely an issue. But like most projects its based on volunteer contributions, unless big corp "gives" it away. Besides, spotting the Fed is definitely still a great idea. If they can't do their job right? The should've chosen another career. I do miss those raw times of the earlier years on BBS. That much is true. Doesn't mean the spirit of innovation is over. There is still much to be done, specially in bringing power back to the Users. The Internet was a new frontier back then, the Tech has grown astronomical over time. It maybe a different environment but the Game is still very much the same. Primary goal of H4xx is intellectual curiosity, the seduction of adventure. - k.m.

I never got to go to one, now I don't want to. Especially with that badge.
if you want a old badge since you didnt get to go, i have tons of badges going back long time. Let me know if you would want one.
$450 USD!!!! I went in 2018 for Defcon 26 and it was $260.
yeah, and you're really not getting anything more / better
@@nyedisiam Defcon 31 still had 25000 attendees all paying $450 USD. At the end of the day that is all they really care about.

IMHO If you missed the Alexis Park era, you missed DefCon. Those were my fondest memories of DefCon. I started going to DefCon with DefCon 6 back at The Plaza in Glitter Gulch and stopped going around 20 something. I am glad I got to attend when I did and meet a lot of really great people.
oh man, DefCon OG here 🤘🏻
The Plaza was crazy. Remember when someone sent down an elevator to the casino with a road flare in it?
A bunch of our staff watches video and we were sharing it around with other members in our chats. Long story short, there is so much to unpack in this video, both that spot on, Also unfortunately misinformation and other interesting things that we are in talks right now to make a response video because we think it's that worth it. We also think this would be a great way to also just highlight all the awesome other content on your channel. Look out for it in the upcoming week. 👨💻
Looking forward to it! If you want to jump on a zoom, I'd be down to discuss in a more open forum. Also, would love to know what is "misinformation" since everything I stated was from first-hand account of my own personal experience. Cheers!
--- Disclaimer for those that don't know: @defcon201 is a meetup group in New Jersey and not the actual Defcon organization from the convention in Vegas
Avoid the con and just hang out in vegas lol.
That's absolutely what I'm doing next year 👍
That's what I did in defcon 30 didn't pay shit an speaker gave me a badge and shared with my friend spend the money drinking and having fun. Since defcon 25 defcon went straight to the garbage can full of woke idiots less hacking and more political agenda most of my friends from back on the days and so many interesting people I met never came back they just had enough. Me? Defcon made me lost all the interest in hacking without to mention the amount of people that just go to defcon knowing shit about compute security or any related topic they just go because it's mainstream.
Help us fund it, Az-Net will handle it
I would have expected at least that there is an RFID transponder in the badge with which you can do .. "something" ... hopefully someone has checked, right? :D
nada
At least, people got a limited edition of the covid virus 🤣😂
Lol! The Defcon.31 variant. It’s pretty weak and overhyped by everyone.
@@G.V.III. well said!
@@nyedisiamwent last year and everyone was still making a big deal about masks 🤮
@@futuregootecks yeah. That was pretty rediculous. We used it to our advantage and on the last day just walked around without masks and refused to listen to the nerd police until they asked us to leave. We agreed on the condition that they refund our money. They happily obliged! We traded our badges back for a full cash refund and left. They were happy to get rid of those pesky anti-masker extremists and we got a couple grand to go out and have real fun with in Vegas for the night! Win / win!
Bro as long as you and everyone else shows up DEFCON will always rock! Was it good as last years? Maybe not but I just love when all the guys are hanging out trading war stories 🤣
Next year I’ll be in Vegas. I’ll just be sharing war stories at the craps tables. Lol!
