Terrible growling driveline noise. Found the problem, and it's bad news. This will be expensive!

  • The machine we are working on today is Floyd, our 2019 Polaris Sportsman ACE 570. The parts used in this video can vary by year/model, so sharing a link isn't practical, as it may not be the correct part for you. Instead....
Please visit rockymountainatv.com or partzilla.com, navigate to the OEM parts section, and use their drop down menus to select your exact machine. The part numbers can be found there!

I slit mine with a band/hacksaw 90* from the pin on one side, and drilled the end of the slit to stress relieve it. Then bolt it instead of the pin to clamp down on the splines and hopefully that will help keep my new diff and yoke new for longer. My old stuff was wallowed out and who knows how good the splines are on Chinese yokes are anyway. Did this in a ranger.

Oh, what a great idea! That would really help it clamp right down on the shaft. I hadn't thought of that, and ended up replacing the pin yoke and the differential (in tomorrow's video). How long have you run it like that? As you say, those chinese yokes are weak, so I'm curious if it can hold up to the stress of spinning over time with a slot in it. I will say, for the price of one of these differentials, I'll try that method if it happens again!

So, that diff is different from a Sportsman 570?

Yes, from my research, the ACE is part number 1333751, while the Sportsman is part number 1333393. I checked the internal part numbers between the two and all the ones I checked were different as well. They definitely look very similar, but word on the street is that they are geared differently and the Sportsman is slightly smaller. I wish they shared more common parts with the Sportsman. It would definitely be cheaper!!

This machine is a blessing at generating content but a curse on your wallet.

You're telling me! I love these little machines, as do the kids, but they are ALWAYS in the shop for repairs. I don't mind little things like bushings and bearings. You'll have that. Hers keeps coming back with big ticket items like the steering rack and the differential, and I don't like that one bit!!
