That might be part of it, but my best guess (as a PR person) is he announced it out of fear world would leak that something was wrong when he cancelled engagements, and the guesses would be far worse than the reality. So why not just tell the truth, and maybe distract a tiny bit from Kate?

I had gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed in September. It was an outpatient surgery and after two weeks I was comfortable enough to walk around a theme park with my family. I don’t think it would take that long to recover from gallbladder/gallstones.
America we have a HIPAA law to keep medical care private. If anything is leaked about it by the healthcare staff they will be fired and or sued.
Since Catherine had problems with scar healing, she, because of being athletic, may have decided to do a special plastic suture closure of delicate layers to make sure there are no scar problems. They will want her not to do any movements that might jepordize the healing. So don't read much into the length of stay. Read about plastic suture closures. You will see what I'm trying to explain.

There are SO many things it could be it's impossible to guess. Decades ago I had a benign retroperitoneal tumor pressing on my spine. It was an over 9 hour surgery, of course being young & healthy they insisted it would be female related and ignored the radiologist's proper findings. Hellishly long recovery. Very rare, but hey, I had it. I'm sure there are countless similar situations. Hope she has less enduring pain than I did after (severe nerve damage). At least back then you didn't have to go through hell to get perfectly safe pain meds (unless you are in the under 2% at risk). Although I'm sure she will get proper care without the hoops the rest of us have to jump through. Wish her well. Whatever it is, doesn't sound like fun

Me and my friend have endometriosis and both had surgery that kept us in for 10days to 2wks. And needed several months to fully recover. Also hysterectomy would cover that time period as well.
I think endometriosis is the most likely. I have been concerned lately about her thin body. It was quite alarming. I think one has something to do with the other.

I also had Endometriosis back when a. Doctor told me that because I’d had children that I wouldn’t have it. Turns out I had a very very aggressive form of it and everything was bound down by adhesion’s. So I had surgery after surgery to try to mop up the adhesion’s but it didn’t work so I ended up having to have a radial hysterectomy to stop it doing anymore damage and I was in hospital for 2weeks as it was a pretty big surgery and even when I went home it took a long time for me to be able too too move around get back to normal. I’m not saying that that is is what Kate has, I don’t know but I do think she has the right to her privacy.
No hysterectomy is now keyhole...much quicker. But do leave her alone, she wants privacy while enduring her discomfort. You will all lose her if you carry on, she's no slouch commoner any more, she is our future Queen and if they go quiet, the outcome is you'll have done it to yourselves.

Most important news, this abdominal surgery Princess Catherine is undergoing seems to be one that has a great outcome with positive rehabilitation prospects at hospital, and ultimately at home. From the way the Princess handles herself publicly, I surmise she is confident of a full recovery. Whatever it is it is being cared for appropriately.
A hernia is a most likely thought involving abdominal surgery, which is not unusual or dangerous even for healthy people if treated appropriately. Hernia repairs are invasive surgery. However,a benign tumor or cyst on ovaries are not rare for women, either, even if they are healthy, although it seems frightening. Fortunately, these medical issues can be resolved with surgery and rehab.
Whatever it is the problem, for many healthy, athletic people, the above mentioned conditions in this comments, have high recovery to normality success that often require a 2week post-op surgery care and a month or so of rehab, before energetic activities.
In any case, I m sure she is being well taken care of and is overall extremely healthy, no cancer stated, so, any invasive surgery to the abdominal muscles/ wall require a couple of months rehab.

My friend Misty when we were growing up was always super skinny later at college days she went to the gastroenterology doctor after going to the emergency department for abdomen pain many tests later they found a very large tape worm in her intestines.She went into surgery very quickly ,it took a long time to get it out but when they did it was huge and sent it off to get tests.Now days she’s normal skinny but much more healthy very athletic .The doctors finally found that the tape worm was in something she ate like raw fish.I guess we should really watch what we eat. 0:05

I have had SO many surgeries in my life and very familiar with the recovery times of many of the postulated surgeries.. However I also have Med Sci degrees in Pathology and pharmacology and Nutrition, and heres my 2 cents worth, or two pennies. Here are the choices to consider. 1) Crohns. Extremely thin, and weight loss is symoptomatic for it - and coupld also explain her extreme strict dietary choices. Also, ppl have complained about her reduced number of engagements and appts, yeas she has a family. But maybe she is also living with a chronic condition we are not privvy to. , and we know being thin and tall, she doesnt appear to have huge amount of muscle mass either, which when on a strict diet will happen 2) Inguinal hernias is very possible given she has had 3 children. Not very common but common enough, and might expllain why she looks not only slim but allso in many dresses, extremely flat stomach, If you are living with inguinal hernias, tight shapewear is the best thing for her. 3) Prolapse of some kind. However, when you take into account the recovery times, of all of these, a muscle repair of the abdominal wall is something that does require long bed rest. I was in hospital for one week for this and on extended bed rest at home, with nurses coming every day for a month afterewards. Also her strict diet does indicate she has not only a preference for staying thin but extreme diets are what many people need in order to remain healthy if they do have Crohns, or other intestinal inflammatory disorders. This is alos one that requires extended recovery time.
Heres what its unlikely to be. Hysterectomy or fibroid or gyne surgery - even a hysterectomy is a day procedure now - with maybe 2 days in hosiptal and a full week in bed and light duties for a couple of months. Most of what ppl have suggested do not explain in any way the type of extended rest she is required to have, or the length of the hospital stay. Eitther way, I hope she feels better - but its aweful living with dicomfort and pain all the time, and its clear she has been silently suffering all this time.

The reason the Princess of Wales, not Kate Middleton is staying for 14 days is that they don’t have to worry about insurance or paying the hospital they are super rich she can afford to stay there a year if she wanted to, so please shut up.
