mary young I think you might be right. I’ve seen the pics of her in documentaries and online and I think it’s actually her. Interesting that they would get such a shot of her like this even tho it was quick. The look on her face makes me think so many deep thoughts, such a strong person she was to stand up to him in those last moments. Very sad story.
That was Christine Miller.. the lady that stood up to jones on the last recording tape and told him that she didn’t want to die, the babies deserved to live & that it was way too many ppl to kill.
The people were sincere in their faith and I'm sure that they found the holy spirit. Jim Jones was a wolf in sheeps clothing and unfortunately feed on their energies until death.
Bullshit. After a while they knew Jones was a socialist Atheist. and still followed him. Everyone who went to Jonestown fully understood at that point what he stood for, and it was NOT spiritual at all.
Truly if this people knew God's will, they would have not been deceived. These people were too young in spirit to discern the wolf before them; that, or there were never born of the spirit to begin with, or both. Sweetness and sugar mixed with the lack of knowledge of God's will drove this people to there unknowing demise. Nonetheless there judgement as been sealed, all we can do is hope that most of these people pass the judgement of God, I don't know his Judgement, I can't know, and I will never know his judgement till that day and hour comes. But surely the children, the children belong to God.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this congregation was not with the holy spirit, light does not dwell with darkness! This people were drunk on demons as the wolf grinned and spat out venom from his mouth!
I believe this was at the Los Angeles Peoples Temple. What a lot of people don’t understand is that Jones had already disavowed Christianity by 1972. Socialism was Jones’ ideology and he viewed religion as a way to bring people in. At the same time of this video, Jones was also regularly preaching atheism and socialism in San Francisco. You can look those videos up, he is usually wearing sunglasses in them. He changed his preachings to appease the crowd in whatever context, location he was in.
@@Nhnhnfk thank you. Making people Marxists or Leninist via religion is total non sense. It's literally a point of both to accept that religions are only there to manipulate the people and have to be abolished
The crazy idea for me, is that Jim Jones was really able to unite people beyond their race, in a time period that had racial conflict. That is so interesting and to me, it’s some kind of power to unite people like that.
Jonestown fascinated me since I'm 16. The more I read about it the more I figure Jones was not a con man. He had this ability to unite people and tried to use it for good purpose but over time his ego grew bigger and bigger and he lost control. That s the true danger of power and in a way power is like a demon who is constantly tempting you
Jeffrey Kaufmann Utter nonsense. Does not compare to the likes of Churchill, Martin Luther King or Hitler. Sounds uncannily like Mr Donald Trump if truth be told.
Lawrence Hannon Obviously he had a huge, enthusiastic following many of who died to do his bidding due to his “charisma” and ability to “speak” to people even if what he said was nonsense.
@@lawofaverages5373 He kinda does compare to them actually. @@jeffreykaufmann2867 he was not one of the greatest orators, but manipulators of all time. In this video, he even calls on Jesus' power and praises him, that strenghtened his manipulation even more. Ultimate evil cannot develop without using a lots of elements of Good for its cause.
About 30 years ago, I did my 7th grade topic paper on Jim Jones and the mass suicide in Guayana. I didn't even know what it was at the time. I stumbled upon the images of all the dead bodies while scrolling through some microfilm and decided at the last minute this was a good topic to write a rushed essay, which I did in about two hours. Strangely, after all this time between that first essay and now, I believe this is the first time I have actually heard Jim Jones' voice. PS: as a professional screenwriter today, I still almost always wait for the last minute to meet my deadlines.
Why do you think you do that? Are you lazy or dont ideas come or do you just not like writing the script as much as thinking about it and how do u deal with it?
@@ActionableFreedom I like to allow the ideas to marinate with as much time as possible, to give them richer layering and weaving with the surrounding ideas, if that makes sense. Just making stuff up by the seat of your pants without thoughtful (and heartful) integration into the story, almost always seems contrived and amateur, though lots of young writer wannabes can't see this. That's with my own stuff, on spec. With others' material -- directors and producers wanting polish and rewrites and ghostwrites, which is most of my work--I do it very quickly, without much thought. I think the difference is that I don't have any emotional connection to their material and so it is easier to make decisions for stories. I love the writing of the actual script the most. But that is the icing on the cake. The real work is the story discovery and composition, and that can take years: notes, research, soul searching, more notes, brainstorming, angle-gaming, etc.... Without that groundwork and legwork up front, I can almost guarantee your stories fall flat and thin. Embrace the unknown, which is where all the great ideas hide.
lol she didn't need glasses no matter what. it was confirmed Jones hired all the people he "healed" and none of them were actually sick or disabled in the first place.
8:57 Is that Christine Miller? Parts of this film were used for the PBS doc, but never saw the whole thing. Most of these people seem like they believe it; they were either brainwashed or afraid to dissent or both.
Yes there is some surviving Audio/Visual record of the People's Temple that was used in the PBS Special. This is the whole video that was only shown in part in the PBS documentary.
The thing with Jones is, he claimed to be all things to all men. If you were inclined to religious belief, he sought to convince you he had miraculous healing powers. If you were inclined to politics, he'd talk about racism and other ills affecting society. Quite a few people (especially well-educated young adults) in the Temple didn't take Jones' religious stuff absolutely seriously, but still thought he was an extraordinary person and that it was okay if Jones lied because of all the good he was said to be doing. Jones explicitly defended "the ends justify the means" as an approach to morality. He'd admit to his closest associates that he would stage faith healings, but argued it was necessary because otherwise older or more conservative-minded folks wouldn't care about his socialistic message otherwise.
Unbeleviable... I'm just reading 'The road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple' and I must say, that this [hi]story is better than a lot of fictional books (though a bit terryfing...)
@@communitygardener17 I read this and it was very thorough book. Tim goes back and forth between the People's temple, the history of some people like Congressman Ryan, the Stoen family and what their legal issues were like trying to get John back, almost everything. I did feel that some areas were rushed..like Tim Carter's discussion with Gloria not expounded upon as Tim describes it, the beatings of Stanley Clayton not being mentioned, etc. Because with some documentaries, there were things I never knew happened because they were not covered in Tim's book. I suppose "Raven" by Tim Reitermann and "The Road to Jonestown" by Jeff Guinn are probably, as a duel, the best books about the subject. I recommend both for anyone who is interested in a very in depth look at this strange time in history.
It is amazing how a great orator like Jim Jones can give people so much hope. Giving people hope is a great thing in a world where we all die and face judgement, as long as the leader doesn't murder his followers and give them an early death. Our time of death is in God's hands, not another person's . Too bad he let such great oratory and leadership skills go to waste.

I feel sorry for them all. The adults were just as blinded at first. I feel bad that they all went through something that had made them lose faith. Feel awful that our country and world did not, (still does not), display enough love an equality for one another- therefore making them run to the first person who promises it. The survivors all have said that being in that place with their fellow friends were the best years of their lives because the conncetion they'd built with each other. It's not their fault Jones had his own hidden agenda. Jones was just as weak or wounded as these people had been. paul iblis right, nice bit of info. I still do believe that there were people who really did believe in this stuff. 0:54 That woman's look is priceless. She must've sensed this man's evil intentions....
I was thinking that maybe that was Christine Miller.
mary young I think you might be right.
Lol I thought the exact same thing
Vegas Summer her look is very foreboding. it's as if her future self, who confronted Jones on that last day, is there with her at 0:54
The people were sincere in their faith and I'm sure that they found the holy spirit.
Sincere my ass the were fuckin stupid and could not think for themselves, its best they didnt makeit.
The only good thing out of this people were brought together black and white
I believe this was at the Los Angeles Peoples Temple. What a lot of people don’t understand is that Jones had already disavowed Christianity by 1972. Socialism was Jones’ ideology and he viewed religion as a way to bring people in. At the same time of this video, Jones was also regularly preaching atheism and socialism in San Francisco. You can look those videos up, he is usually wearing sunglasses in them. He changed his preachings to appease the crowd in whatever context, location he was in.
Yes ma'am you are so right. He used the Church as a springboard for his Marxist/Leninist ideology.
Actually renounced Christianity long before then. In the late 50's I believe, certainly by the early 60's. He was a Marxist who wanted to BE God.
Whatever twisted form of atheism or socialism he preached, it was neither atheism nor socialism but an excuse to make himself God to these people.
what in the rat fuck are you talking about?

It’s so sad that this happy, enthusiastic group with Jones as their preacher devolved into what was the Jonestown massacre😥
One of the greatest orators of all time
Jeffrey Kaufmann Utter nonsense.
He actually studied Hitler's speeches and learned from them and those who survived the massacre said he was up there with King in the way he spoke. He's nothing like Trump. He's way more convincing than Trump is. What he said was utter drivel, the way he said it and convinced people of it was something else.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 he was not one of the greatest orators, but manipulators of all time. In this video, he even calls on Jesus' power and praises him, that strenghtened his manipulation even more. The Evil always uses Good if it wishes to go a long way. Like Nazis and Bolsevics promised to people many good things in the beginnings, so did Jim Jones.

I think it is her
The thing with Jones is, he claimed to be all things to all men.
Brainwashed
That's her.
Unbeleviable... I'm just reading 'The road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple' and I must say, that this [hi]story is better than a lot of fictional books (though a bit terryfing...)
5 months later how was the book?
You might want to check out Raven, by Tom Reiterman. It is a thourough, definitive work.
I feel sorry for them all. The adults were just as blinded at first. I feel bad that they all went through something that had made them lose faith. Feel awful that our country and world did not, (still does not), display enough love an equality for one another- therefore making them run to the first person who promises it. But I feel worse for the people who made this country so divided and evil. That evil and need to divide is what made a lot of these people buy Jim Jones story of building a peaceful, normal community. No crying, no hate, no fighting. Shame on them for being tricked by another man into believing they had a safe, stable and loving community of people to start a family and have children in. The survivors all have said that being in that place with their fellow friends were the best years of their lives because the conncetion they'd built with each other. It's not their fault Jones had his own hidden agenda. Jones was just as weak or wounded as these people had been. But these people looked for comfort and love to heal them...he looked to destroy and over power others to make his wounds heal. I feel worse for him and people like him though bc God will have no mercy on their evil
We should all feel sorry for everyone who was misled and deceived

paul iblis right, nice bit of info. I still do believe that there were people who really did believe in this stuff. Through documentaries I’ve seen from survivors, the reason they’ve fled and their family members haven’t has often been down to the fact that they saw the madness, but their family/friends became intertwined within the madness

What a nice church, how do I sign up to join this group?
There's one like it that's in LA. Wouldn't recommend it, tho 😂
Don't mean to be nerdy but the cult hasn't had any members since the late 70s
Do you know the source of this footage?
Thanks!
I know the dancing and singing in the beginning was credit to the newsteam who went to Guyana with Congressman Leo R. & Jackie S. Jim had put on a big, grand performance to put on a fausade for them. So look up the video of the family members and Congress visiting Guyana. Some interesting footage if you haven't seen them alreadt
No matter what he has done but he was very handsome
The girl @01:49 and again @06:54 is in lusty infatuation with the Reverend Jim. So creepy.
This should be made into a comedy!!! Lady went from barely walking to doing the twist!! I can't stop Laughing!
Look how gullible and credulous the poor mass looked at him with so much anticipation and believe. I see how easily they could be lured into the 1978 massacre. Sad story ⛔️😔
It is heartbreaking I agree
I think it's interesting how the 70's cult mentality that was once religious is now idealistic. You have the trans cults, the political (left or right cult), the drug cults like weed and so on. You have movie franchise cults (maybe a little less threatening) but are nonetheless a cult. Then you have Disney cults (scariest of them all).
What's a Disney cult?

ELE VEIO DAR AULAS PARA PASTORES DO BRASIL .@@hugoveracandia3562
He took advantage of many people, especially poor blacks
