Well the social engineering after the Great Depression was meant to push the poor rural gun folk who might resent corporate power into the Republican party where they would blame everyone but corporate power for their problems. 7 years old - my friends brother "accidentally" shot her. Her name was Carlene and I learned that day that a gun in the wrong hands could cost me a friend. I was 14 when Maine State Troopers showed up at our house with the news that my brother had been found with a gunshot wound to his chest, alone in the woods he died. His name was Billy, and my six kids never got to know their Uncle Billy. He was climbing over a fence and didn't practice the safety he had been taught, and we lost him. Gun advocates pretend that THEY are safe with guns and that's all it takes, except my brother at 21 didn't practice that safety, and pretending they all do is stupidity. We aren't safer with all these guns - we are far less safe than we realize, and that scares me.

Yes, in AUS we had, despite some objections, an even greater enforcement by the leader of the country on firearms widely accepted, after a terrible gun crime that shocked the nation. The regulations were reasonably tight, compared to the USA, but now they are even stricter, and a good thing, even though I have been a shooter.

America has long had a possibility of fascism and civil war. Most of the major issues around the first Civil War are unresolved. As a British person, my favourite author of the 20th Century, Philip Roth laid it out in chilling accuracy. I would recommend The Plot Against America for everyone interested in the subject.
Let's hope this all comes to pass. Then with any luck the UK may go the same way. Followed by a period of peace and calm for the rest of the world that has had to suffer these warmongers for so long.
I fear the UK is on a similar path, with the exception of the gun laws, there is a lot of hate and division stirring up, Brexit, immigration, foreigners overpopulating our cities, the gradual erosion of our culture, all these things and more help to spread unrest, bad feeling, and anxiety and give the most unsavoury individuals a voice and a drum to beat, the problem being too many voices and too many drums, that will never beat the same. I suspect this will happen throughout the civilised world now, and our children and grandchildren will be the ones that have to endure the worst of it.

As an American, I'm not very worried about an all-out civil war, in the military sense. It's already happening on other levels, though - verbally, emotionally, psychologically, in the media, in the justice system, between the major parties, and between various other subgroups within the country. The Left has gone off the rails, and the extreme Right is bonkers as well. But I just don't see it getting to the point of a general, widespread, country-wide military confrontation.
The worst was not January 6; it was the summer of Antifa riots.
