I've seen her perform live twice and met her. People thought I was crazy. But her voice is absolutely unique and no one sings like her. When kirk franklin did the song with her all my friends got really quiet and I was like yeah I told you she has a great voice so great kirk had to work with her.

I watched people I thought I know, my brothers and sister, do and say things that just shocked the shoes off of me. Broke my heart. I wonder if people know what kind of damage they do in times like these.

Wow... Many are kicking her while she's down... 😕😕 What a shame. 😞😞 We don't know the whole story. WE REALLY DON'T. All we can do is speculate and perceive and what not. What do we know for sure? She'a a fellow believer. She's also human. I admire her honesty and vulnerability -- it's alot to put yourself out there like this. I know I couldn't. I'm'a keep on listening to her music and I'll pray for her, too. ❤ P.S. And who's to say reconciliation can't happen somewhere down the road? Anything's possible. 😊

    • @RCGagain
      @RCGagain 4 года назад +7

It's really not that at all. Read my other comments. It's the whole pursue yourself and discover yourself thing AND the emergent church/deconstruction (question everything) thing. I just went through peri-menopause at 47 a few years back. I made a lot of mistakes (mostly buying too many clothes!)....but I had an encounter with Jesus and as I pursued Him I became more creative, more of myself.....without doing it the worldly way of "finding yourself". God is just so funny that way. We look for Him (in biblical ways) and we find ourselves too without having to become self-absorbed.

    • @amystreasuresdesign
      @amystreasuresdesign 4 года назад +7

@@RCGagain She said she was very young when she got married, she said she gave her husband so much control that she didn't know who she was. There is nothing worldly about her finding herself. She is an individual and was married, that's two individuals. However when one person makes all of the decisions, tells the other what to do and how to do it, that's not a Godly marriage, that is a controlling marriage. When someone is in that kind of relationship, especially when they enter in it at such a young age, and have been in it for so long, they don't know who they are as an individual. They only know who the other person is. How is that Godly?

It is encouraging to hear this conversation, and just how encouraging they are during it. And yes, therapy helps in so many areas of life.
I'm so glad to see not judgment but love and care and a good, honest, healthy conversation about divorce. i think time, and people, have changed, and the reality is that this happens in more lives than the church is probably willing to look at, when it really desperately needs to love people, regardless of whether they are married or divorced.
It's painfully sad that there's this stigma that divorced people can't/shouldn't be in the Christian music world. The way Christian radio dropped Amy Grant in 1999, the way they judged and outcast Nikki Leonti around the same time for getting pregnant out of wedlock.
This is a conversation we need to have. We need to be willing to talk about how important it is that we love people who go through things that leave them broken or hurting or learning who they are outside of their marriage.
I'm so, so grateful for Mark and Andrew for not shying away from reality, and the need to love on Crystal. I'll add to that and say that we, as the church, need to love on all people, divorced or otherwise.

It's easy to judge others when we imagine ourselves to be better Christians than they are and assume we would do better. Peter felt he would never deny Christ yet did so three times. The Bible says God permitted divorce (with conditions) but we are saying, no God, you were wrong and people should NEVER get divorced. Let God be true and every man a liar.

I find some of the comments here to be very judgy. Bear in mind that this is the first time she is talking about her divorce since it is obviously not something God wants. As a divorcee, I wrestled with it and I know that God hates divorce. He only allowed it because of the hardness of our hearts. We are imperfect and we all make mistakes. She is honoring her ex by not speaking negatively and this is why she is carefully choosing her words. We do not know what she went through and divorce is a gut wrenching experience. She's not saying, 'Hey get divorced, your life is easier!" She's saying that as imperfect as we are, God loves us and wants us to draw closer to Him.
A couple has to work together to stay married. I was unequally yoked and my ex did not want to continue in the marriage. So the real issue is not whether divorce should be glorified. The issue is that life is messy and God can redeem us even in our deepest mess when we call out to him.
I do agree though that you should not divorce bc you "fell out of love". It has to be because of infidelity, abuse or an unwillingness for a partner to honor the marriage.

I get what everyone is saying that this video seems "weird". I don't think they are discounting how important marriage is to God in any way. And I don't really believe the focus is on the act of divorce in itself, but more so of the "now what" after divorce. And the most pronounced feeling I got was the same as when Mark said, "and now you need the church to love on you". You have to realize you don't ever see the whole picture in divorce and we are too quick to be judgemental to those going through it. Yes divorce is not God's ultimate design but it happens and we need to offer grace to those walking that road just as Christ does.

    • @testing7802

we should offer up grace and love but we shouldnt dismiss it like the sin doesn't matter and we can just shove it under the rug. Jesus was equally loving but equally angry at sin. He let a prositute wash his feet but flipped the tables of temples in anger. God does not pat you on the head and say "there there" when we sin . Part of loving each other is also holding each other accountable and the modern church of snowflakes has lost sight of that.

I have loved both Crystal Lewis and Mark Lowry since the early 90’s, but I’m concerned about several of the messages related to marriage and God’s principles shared in this video. Saying God loves me more than marriage is akin to saying God wants me to be happy. This is a common belief in our culture however, it is not a biblical concept. Also, the idea that marriage is just a man-made institution is not a biblical principle. Marriage is a covenant ordained by God. Also, the comment that some husbands and wives grow into healthier people after divorce and that it would’ve been impossible had they stayed together is completely unbiblical and undermines the healing and reconciling power of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. I think all of us in Christian leadership have to be very careful about the way we represent biblical principles, especially when it relates to marriage. That does not mean that we judge people or shun people who have been divorced, but it also does not mean that we in someway celebrate divorce as a move toward greater individual health.

God's word and God's character do not change based on our circumstances - remember the 10 commandments. If we love God BEFORE anything else, we become Christ-minded and as such will fulfill the WILL OF GOD. No this is not an easy topic or discussion and there are no easy answers ~ however if we intend to reflect to the world the WORD OF GOD, then we cannot deviate from that to promote any personal opinion or experience and anything that comes before God is of self. Well shortly after that's when my marriage tore apart. For long time saw things i knew we both needed counseling on but my ex never wanted to work on anything. Just kept dodging our vow to always work on things. Yes God hates divorce but Then i read in the Word where Apostle Paul said: it's the unbeliever who departs. But God has called us to peace. Many other Christians had similar things happen to their marriages. Since then....more shaking has been happening. I believe it's bc what God told me: I'm separating you from those who would later betray you! Even fam members now..... Jesus said.....The ones who obey.... those are My real Mother....sister....& brother.... Let us keep on pressing in to know, love & follow The Lord!

I know this is reality of our faith, but I am nevertheless always shocked and saddened when I witness it or hear about it. I guess it’s a part of me that feels somewhat validated by others along the journey. But I always circle back to my real validation, which is the Holy Spirit.

The difference now is that I've been through a divorce myself. And to Crystal: keep questioning everything! That which cannot withstand questions cannot be trusted.

This is exactly why we are not to be a busy body in other people's affairs; praying for those involved and moving along is what needs to happen. But, some people are determined to be a Pharisee and Sadducee...playing police to other believers when they need to walk out their own salvation with fear and trembling while also remembering what "grace" and "mercy" really means. No, we don't use it as a license to sin, yet, we have it to swim in abundantly despite our choices. God's got us. Not just in edifying, but in chastening too. In chastening, He still does not let us go. That's love! As far as questioning everything...well, that led to the trouble we are in in the first place; "you won't surely die?" God's Word can withstand questions. The problem is the motive for the questions...which are usually to justify self in areas of rebellion or avoid accountability. Socrates constantly asked questions to avoid conclusion of right and wrong. Then the nerve of people to blame God when they reap what they've sown. People who are constantly asking questions yet have no real answers are definitely sly and untrustworthy; manipulation 101. I wish Crystal and Brian all the best!

That said, if they would share realistic interviews that would share all they did to save their marriages, all the prayers they said on their knees to change their hearts toward their husbands, etc, the time they spent separated in prayer and counseling, THEN it might be a better witness for the world of a marriage covenant supposed to mirror God's eternal love for His church.

@@NB-nh2sf I agree. I don't follow the logic behind her statement that God loves me more than the idea of marriage. It's kind of like saying God loves me more than the idea of motherhood or fatherhood. So now do I get to abandon my children so I can be free and happy? You could use that argument to get out of just about any responsibility or commitment you've made. It seems like a misguided and dangerous belief. God might love you more than an idea of something, but that doesn't mean you get to shrug off your responsibility or break a vow. Could someone then say, "God loves me more than the idea of obedience...so I'm going to (insert sin here)"? I don't know the details of what happened leading to her divorce, and it's none of my business, but her argument doesn't seem to hold up to what the Bible says about divorce. Jesus was pretty clear on the subject as I recall. I guess that was too inconvenient to discuss during this interview. Maybe she had a legitimate reason for her decision, but the statement about marriage seems very, very flawed.

I am not a Christian. I am a recovering Christian. The comments here break my heart. Jesus instructed Christians to spread the gospel, and care for the fatherless and the widow. I don't recall Jesus saying to make pious, none-of-your business judgements of Crystal, Amy, Russ, or Sandi's life. Paul may have gotten into that sort of ugliness (long hair, pants on women, and rebuking brethren) but Jesus Christ, the son of God, the namesake of your very belief system, faith, religion, etc, said spread gospel, care for poor. You should all stop before you answer me and prove my point. Don't worry about politics, abortion, or Crystal Lewis because you believe he's coming back soon. Surely the way of the world will usher that day in sooner, and people need to hear the gospel, and poor people still abound. Humbly, do what you were told, let ceasar, or Crystal, or Nancy Pelosi have theirs. You are in the world, not of it. Shame on you dogma spewing, Pharisees, praying loudly in RUclips comments, when you ignore your sacred duty. Exactly why I am no longer a Christian and am comfortable telling God on you all.

I see a big mix up of many things which are not necessarily connected to each other in the comments.
    1) Crystal Lewis is one of the very best musicians around. Period.
2a) I haven't heard a real good reason for the separation. On the other hand I heard a lot of "me, who I am" etc, and I'm not placing it on Crystal Lewis' shoulders only. The younger dude has a really unhealthy attitude in my opinion, almost like he wants to justify himself.
2b) God is not about our individuality as _we_ see it, he's about forming his likeness in us at whatever cost (and he _kinda_ showed what walking the talk meant), which is ultimately where we'll not only be happy but also live forever! Now trying to achieve full bloom in this life is an evil trap into which countless fall.
2c) What became of "He must increase, but I must decrease", and "let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" ? Looking at him, and not at ourselves ?
    3) The environment really doesn't help these days (like that 'younger' dude - not married, no idea, talking about marriage...yeah). These two awful interviewers spew out an enormous load of theological BS. What crap is that idea of 'God loves people, not marriage' ? He INVENTED it ! And how can you separate 'people' from the words they speak and the thoughts they think and what they do? Jesus is the living word, and we're called to be in his likeness!
All this trash about 'carrying a corpse' etc does forget to take one thing into account: we're absolutely not at liberty to dissolve a bond made between *three* parties (God, man, woman) when the main party does not agree to it. I'd love to her her former husband's side of things, by the way...
    4) Stating all the above is not "judging", in case someone gets all worked up again...
Still, the good that came from her music, past and (maybe)present, can't be taken away !
So... God bless you, Crystal Lewis!
P.S. - I very much agree with JC Vaca Diez

But you don't need to know the details. God does and he's the judge. t's easy to judge others when we imagine ourselves to be better Christians than they are and assume we would do better.
