Saw him in concert last week in Denver. It's one thing to be able to write music the way he does which puts him in a category of his own, but then his WILLINGNESS, ability, outgoing positive nature, HUMILITY, and enthusiasm to SHARE how he does it with the world here in this video and so many other of his videos is truly a gift for the entire world. Is he one in a billion? Maybe. We're all so blessed to be here together to witness this.
@@hadarginifarjun1835 yes, it was too low. My perfect pitch heard it rightaway, you can also hear it when he plays the note on the piano, it's out of tune
Jacob Collier’s philosophy is so wild that you can apply whatever he says to anything. As a storyteller, for example, I think the idea of discovering your own intention is so precious, i’ve realized that almost all my best storys comes from experimentation, just from a pattern that emerges from the ideas I put on the page, it’s fascinating that one of my biggest inspirations isn’t even a writer but a musician.
I actually gave up on creating music cause I kept hearing other songs in any melody I put together lol. This guy just reignited me to delve back into it again lol. Cheers Jacob.
Listening and trying to keep up with the thought process of someone so confident in just being themselves and unabashedly talented makes me feel a bit envious and at the same time just plain thankful to be in the same universe at the same time this person inhabits it. I was thinking the same. I think she showered him with love and acceptance and allowed him to flourish. She probably found the perfect balance between guiding and giving space. Whatever her recipe is, it should be the new default template for raising a human
I've been hooked since "In my Room". Then saw and heard you live in Berlin. For me you're the most inspiring, talented, creative, incredible, crazy but at the same time most entertaining and down-to-earth musician, period. Djesse Vol. 4 is awesome! ❤
Humble and super talented.. it's like a favourite painter bringing you along to watch them and they introduce you. Thanks Jacob, and the people in the audience too❤
@criticxyc Interesting take. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'd like to add a little something in though. So, let's take for instance someone like Michael Jackson (literally the 1st name that came to mind who's pretty much known world wide). Hopefully you know him and his works. Now, it's one thing to have a talent, and not use it. However, M.J. could've given masterclasses - look at his interviews when he goes off into himself on describing what he's creating. In Jacobs case - and I'm not up on everything and anything he's created /been part of. However, he pays homage to *some* of those that have come before him... inspired him, naming names and providing examples - even when the 'audience' remained quiet. Why? Maybe because he's pretty full-on/in-deep? I don't know what's going on in his head but ... HUMBLE - "having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance. "he was humble about his stature as one of rock history's most influential guitarists" Similar: meek deferential respectful submissive self-effacing unassertive unpresuming modest unassuming As the questions and examples go on, he's even like 'look guys, sometimes I'm not sure what's going to work but HERE'S a way how I work things out. Here, take the box of tools and let your creativity flow. I'm not saying it's right, but who's to say it's wrong if you feel it's right for you? I just started... and being surrounded by blah blah blah dot dot dot.' To me (and I could be wrong here) it's more like 'A moment with... and hey, Ask Me Anything musical as we've got this time now, YOU'VE taken time out of your day to be here so hopefully we'll ALL walk away having learned something or had some fun connecting over pitches, rhthyms, sounds...ya know that thing many people think of as 'music'. May I ask how you'd present a Master Class on your own channel without saying it's a Master Class?
@criticxyc also, having talent and not using it is a waste. If one have a "gift" and choose not to share it, that's gonna build up in that person as they'll know that they're holding back. Coming from a musical background myself, one realises they power of music. When 'performing', one it emotionally naked. The 'listeners' aren't necessarily interested if you've had a relationship end that morning or lost a relative or had whatever issues getting to the venue. You are there because of them.. having paid /requested your presence or you're doing a PA. It's priviledge to be able to bless others with musical love seeds as I've witnessed so much delights around the world and experienced personally that EVERYONE has their own story to tell, if given the chance. So sure, if someone wants to talk to you about something you LOVE doing, and get paid for, if you sense they're genuine too, why not bring them into your world /share the space together and help them forget about whatever's holding them back as in that moment you're there as an enabler to their craft. It's symbiotic... we're somehow linked through this thing we love and all here for each other anyways... In this instance, they're asking HIM questions about himself after all. I've not studied his life in-depth, however maybe you could tell me if 'music was one of his communication tools as a child'? Not sure that makes all that much sense out of my head actually... lol? Lol. Either way, I'm prefer clarification over confrontation and look foward to your reply ;)
@@francisandthelights @francisandthelights I hear you... having been involved in the Entertainments industry for decades...one has to learn to learn from not only your own, but others experiences too.. I say that to say the following. How many "artistes " do you actually know that are the open book they are with you that haven't had their personal life dug into and perhaps someone they trusted rip them apart for a ft in a media segment? I'v my own biase.heck, we all have and furthermore SHOULD have because we're ALL individuals? I *feel* 👀 sense the passion he has for sharing his professional achievements with (for want of a better word.) Strangers. I'd be curious to know if he'd say he finds music is a *literal* language to him..? You appear to appreciate the talent he has but not how verbalise it. Others may just like him cos he dresses how he does - seemingly focused on coordinated coloured comfort... who knows. Being confident in something you love is kinda funny... if you hold back, emotions one may get called cold/ disinterested...stingy even?yet you may be able to talk about it for hours without feeling bored. Again, i could be wrong... Whittling down from even 25 songs for an album could be hard- what you wa t to create/presemt as your legacy NOW? Is it your best...do you do more... doyou just lock it off at time? People go to school and may be lessengaged with a math teacher... if he become too emotional.. well his examp,e of just aim for fun type thing when playing nd let it come together how YOU feel..guideit... could be like adding a flam in a minor chord to resolve the song. Eg, are you dissapointed/turned off by 1- what he's saying 2- how he's saying what he's saying 3- ? Cos I don't think he's being arrogant.. he's not sighing rolling eyes etc in this interactions-well I didn't notice those types of moment?
@criticxyc It sounds to me like ( and again, correct me where I'm wrong here) .. 1 - You don't like how he's saying what he's saying? However 2 - You appreciate the 'skill' he has? Either way, the end result ( to me at least) is to 'treat it like food'. An example could be - *IMAGINE* that you and I have been commissioned to write for someone else, we'd generally have an amount of time presented to us for the song completion, yes? We can only devote so much time to getting to know the individual/band before a demo/the song is finalised ( that's if "we'd" even get to meet them beforehand to get to know how they interact with the world and their inner head space/ How much is their "way of life " actually relevant to the song/music being produced?). If THEY are asking you or I or us questions about how *we* write, I personally and professionally don't believe how us spending too much time in our "emotions" is really going to help them if there's a time frame to stick to...? Much less so in a 'group' setting where we've gotta moderate and judge the time between questions and responses, and aside from being told or being allowed to allocate extra time for follow-up questions. I've no idea if he was paid by a Uni or whatever by the way. Maybe you could inform me of that? However, he's used his time to help maybe 100 people in the room, plus the amount of people filming, plus us who wasn't actually in attendance/privileged to have been able to go? I've little doubt that some people would charge MEGA bucks for what he gave to "us" for free. I know this *because* either they've a pay wall to access a behind the scenes OR they'd not allow any material to be filmed by the public who are present. Therefore, it's 'our little secret'. ...I believe in freedom of expression (nuances apply lol) Perhaps it's his presentation you disagree with? But(!) Like he states 'Treat it like food'. What you like, eat, what you don't feel nourishes you throw it away as we all learn, have our own personal and professional experience. I forget the exactly it's mentioned but I believe someone asks him something akin to 'what do you wish you know back when...?' Years ago I was in a studio situation and a similar point was raised... I think it's a great question for us ALL to reflect on every now and then as if there's one thing that's pretty constant, it's that over time, we ARE supposed to develop, mature and have respectul, and perhaps sometimes irrespectul fun at our own expense...;) Like Bruce Lee said - when we look at the finger we may miss the glory what it's pointing at.'( it's not an exact quote but Enter The Dragon is one of my fave films/stories.🤣🤣 (So, or rather ) And, with respect I hope it's not too metaphoric.
IF…. I hated music, this guy could change my mind instantly. So engaging and challenging. He makes music fun not intimidating. Have fun with chords! Wow, wish I had him as a music teacher when I was a kid.
I hope he never loses that wonderful enthusiasm as he gets older👍🏻 Early fame can be hard to maintain. He is so amazing, just watched the documentary. Love it.
Thank you very much for spending some of your time with us, Jacob. Your masterclass was lovely and inspiring. You’re a wonderful musician and human being 🩵
Loved Jacob's answer for the question at 29:30 So good. Not many people (especially artists) ever feel good enough or ready enough to share their art... But there will always be someone who is going to be grateful for what you shared, so you just have to start. And keep improving everytime you share something.
This masterclass was incredible! He genuinely interacts with the audience. It's so clear that he values the human connection the most. Inspired, and thanks for sharing this with us freely! ❤
Mind blowing experience! Gobsmacked. Grateful. Privilege. Thank you Jacob. Thank you to those who published this astounding moment. Best wishes. Carry on one and all. Carry on Jacob.
The idea of highlighting contrast with a melody/singing-riff put words to something I've only ever felt by instinct. When there are fun chord changes in a piece, highlighting the notes that weren't in the previous key/scale, and especially if they are the 1st, 3rd, 5th, or even 7th in the new chord, brings such a beautiful emphasis to the music and makes the melody sparkle in ways it otherwise couldn't.
Really inspiring with a real nice demonstration at the end about the things he mentioned: tention and release, freedom to do whatever comes to your mind, chaos, creativity, no fear for wrong notes and the reason why feeling and good rhythm is far more required than the correct notes! Well done! Looking forward to the show in Düsseldorf, Germany in November! Very first concert for my older son at the age of 14... crazy to start with a JC concert😂 Thank you for sharing and the view behind the scenes! Greetings from Germany
musician-creators like Jacob Collier have done such an amazing job of opening up the world music to as many people as possible and i have folks like him to thank for gaining the confidence to make music of my own ☆
The "try to make the worst song in the world" advice FOR LIFE is something I really needed to hear today and will cherish for a long time! 1:00:19 - "If you remove the idea you have to be great or you have to be [perfect...] It's just about saying 'I will make something no matter what' and NOT saying 'I will only make this if it's good'" THANK YOU JACOB, I'LL FOREVER BE THANKFUL
If I could communicate with trees If I could tame the seven seas If I could conduct each storm and breeze I would compose an earthwide song For all living beings to humm along All birds, all whales together singing Just one simple melody, harmony bringing Soothing mankind's ignorance and rage Allowing the planet to enter a new age This age of euphony will heal the world As I said, if I could I would write what I heard

This is a bit of an exaggeration, but you're kinda saving my life. In a time of summer holidays when everyone's living it, you're showing me the light. Showing me that maybe the pursuit of carving something out of what I like is better than trying to seek things (that are maybe) out of my reach (due to limiting circumstances) that are talked up as "normal". Reminds me of this cool bio I saw on insta that went like "do what you can with what have to get what you want".
Jacob you are the most talented, humble, warm, kind and beautiful spirit. May God above continue to bless you by blessing the world through song. ❤🔥💛❤🔥💛

Hi Jacob, you showed up right in front of me in Ashland, Oregon, yesterday, of all places! My piano professor is a big fan of you and now I enjoy listening to you!
Nôtre Entreprise numérique Love you Jacob.yoy're the only one first music player that i have Never know in my life cause you're a super great musician.god bless you.
Hello Jacob, I‘m sorry that I can’t send an audio because I’m not sure that every „tone“ will correct received. This video was so inspiring to me. The thoughts and ideas of music and life are so true. It was so wonderful to listen to you. So at the end I switched of my phones and my mobile and wanted to sleep. I was looking forward for wonderful dreams, not the heavy ones in the last weeks. You have to know that I‘m lying in hospital. Eastersunday I had the concert with the band of the village, the next day I had fever and pain in every cell of my body. Two and a half week now. Till yesterday. it was the first time without fever and a human Level of pain. So I decided to cheer up with RUclips. I like to repeat it again: to see you and to listen to you was so inspiring. But I couldn‘t find the sleep. The thoughts were so intensive. I decided then to send you my thoughts, perhaps to get them out of head for some hours too. I‘m frightend. I would like to live that I‘m lucky. But I have got to care for my son and my old mum. I have to earn money. Every minute in my life I have done things for other people or for me in hope that other people like it. I‘m realizing, no, I have realized a long time ago that my life isn‘t comfortable for me. But I can‘t find a solution that I can care for my son and my mum in the same time. Perhaps this disease is a result of to much stress. Perhaps you might pray to the universe that a door opens and offers a wonderful beginning of a solution. I pray to the universe that you may have a long, wonderful, lucky, happy and comfortable life with good music! Thank you for allowing me to gain an insight of your base in music and life.
Dear Diana. I pray for your health and your family. I'm not a very smart or resourceful person. I can't help you, nor can I teach you how to be helped. The stress you are dealing with is very real. And although I can't, I know there exists help for you. You will find it and get back to your best self. All I can tell you is the anecdote of when I had a heart attack and was hospitalised. Over a period of a year the medicines I took had made me worse, so I looked for other treatments online. The only thing that I tried since the beginning of the pandemic that's actually helped and made me regain my energy is diet restriction. I followed a community of people practicing so-called "zerocarb" and did what the name says and stopped eating all the bulk of my meals. Bread, rice, potatoes... It's very strange, and by no means medically sound. It goes against all you hear and read in the media anyway. The transition was tiring. Two weeks of mostly sleep and reading. The first thing I noticed was my cold went away. My nose stopped watering, and I felt present all the time. Then I noticed that my worry had gone. Like someone had lifted the anxiety from my shoulders, and I began trusting that things were going to be okay. Perhaps I trusted others because I trusted myself because I didn't feel unwell? It's a strange story. I am not suggesting anything. But I am better now. And I hope you will find what works for you too. Love, Marie
@@___xyz___ Dear Marie, Thank you for your warming words. I think I know what you mean. I dont‘t know yet what way could be a solution for me. I hope that at the right time a door opens for me. Hope shouldn‘t die. I wish you a wonderful and happy life with a good health every day! God bless you!
Hello Diana, I’m not prone to say this but… we are all in this together. Humans, sharing different but similar adventures, sorrows, responsibilities, opportunities. Thank you for sharing your pain - you current pain - with us. Of course I am powerless in your life but, somehow, I, we, are with you. We understand. Try to negotiate your current life into a place of balance between your responsibilities, necessities and opportunities. You matter. Of course there are seasons but while you hold on to the idea of this being a season do not choose unnecessary, unsustainable, destabilizing actions. And play. Play! Any way you can. We can’t help you but you can ask the people around you for help. Remember, some people feel BETTER about life when they help. Give those people the opportunity.
@@davidfleuchaus Hello David, it is so amazing that people I don‘t know and they don‘t know me come into conversation about so deep topics… and then at the same time so unbelievable sympathetic! I can‘t hold back my tears. Thank you for your words! I hope to be back at home soon. And then I want to try to make music. But my son is all I have. I want to open his way for his interests and want to show him the possibilities of life. I see it as my duty to be there for him. It is going to be hard. Thank you for your thoughts. I keep them in my heart. God bless you!
Hi Diana. I can encourage u by suggesting to look further than the universe to the very One Who made it, and Who made u. Jesus loves u very much and knows what ur going thru. Call out to Him in ur trial. He is trustworthy and will take ur life and keep it in a heavenly safe deposit if u surrender it to Him. I pray it will be well for u and that u look further... to Him.
Jacob, you seem to refer a lot to painting when you explain composition. I envision a collab with an artist where you play a song and they draw what they see and another where they draw and you arrange it as music. These both would stand together in a gallery. A visitor would come, put on the headphones and fly to a different world. Would be totally outrageous!
I can sing a D but I don't have perfect pitch but relative pitch because of the opening note I've sang hundreds of times. Jacob is a master muse and brings this out in so many.
Amazing as always ! Perhaps you've notice at 41:39 how amazingly he turned a mistake into something really interesting and, for some (me at least), beautiful ! Make me remember of this Herbie Hancock playing with Miles anecdote...
I've known skilled musicians I'd expect to handle parts of what I'm about to suggest would be interesting to see Jacob attempt, but no one to whom I'd toss this overall challenge: Write a piece to be recorded, and then performed live in at least three different venues, one outdoors, for that 50 piece orchestra plus mom on grandad's violin, and piano, with these elements: Some of those Jacob special odd timings and in between notes, like 7:8 and stuff most musicians would do a double take seeing on a score; A segment using mideastern belly dance rhythms, like 7:11 timing; A segment suitable for Korean Taoist meditations like Kouk Sun Do, that for different people in the same room invoke 2x4=8 and 5x5 patterns in the same music; An interlude of Strict Tempo Viennese Waltz (the opposite of Jacob special odd timings); And last, some pulled chord strings, in a style Mark Knoffler is known for doing well. Then, last part of the challenge, do a live panel discussion months later, with mom, the orchestra conductor, and a couple other core musicians, and see how everyone's sense of what were hard or easy parts of that (including figuring out how to practice or coordinate it, including live), aligned or diverged, and how and why so?
Wow, thank you Jacob! So brilliant and articulate about the presentational aesthetic affectivating depth of music and it's unmatchable capacity to move, experience immediately the felt human interconnected meaning of life... Just sayin

To be Not the desire, but the true passion of what you do ✨♥️
Thank you Jacob I was there and you change my mind set of music thank you so much! 🎉❤ You're forever welcome in Mexico
Humble and super talented.. it's like a favourite painter bringing you along to watch them and they introduce you.
Thanks Jacob, and the people in the audience too❤
@criticxyc Could be...
Please feel free to enlighten me how he's *not* shown humbleness in this recorded interaction? Cherrs
HUMBLE -
"having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance.
"he was humble about his stature as one of rock history's most influential guitarists"
Similar:
meek
deferential
respectful
submissive
self-effacing
unassertive
unpresuming
modest
unassuming
As the questions and examples go on, he's even like 'look guys, sometimes I'm not sure what's going to work but HERE'S a way how I work things out. Here, take the box of tools and let your creativity flow. I'm not saying it's right, but who's to say it's wrong if you feel it's right for you? I just started... and being surrounded by blah blah blah dot dot dot.'
To me (and I could be wrong here) it's more like 'A moment with... and hey, Ask Me Anything musical as we've got this time now, YOU'VE taken time out of your day to be here so hopefully we'll ALL walk away having learned something or had some fun connecting over pitches, rhthyms, sounds...ya know that thing many people think of as 'music'.
Eg, are you dissapointed/turned off by
1- what he's saying
2- how he's saying what he's saying
3- ?
Cos I don't think he's being arrogant.. he's not sighing rolling eyes etc in this interactions-well I didn't notice those types of moment?
@criticxyc It sounds to me like ( and again, correct me where I'm wrong here) ..
1 - You don't like how he's saying what he's saying?
However
2 - You appreciate the 'skill' he has?
Either way, the end result ( to me at least) is to 'treat it like food'.
An example could be -
*IMAGINE* that you and I have been commissioned to write for someone else, we'd generally have an amount of time presented to us for the song completion, yes?
Therefore, it's 'our little secret'.
...I believe in freedom of expression (nuances apply lol)
Perhaps it's his presentation you disagree with? But(!) Like he states 'Treat it like food'. What you like, eat, what you don't feel nourishes you throw it away as we all learn, have our own personal and professional experience.
I forget the exactly it's mentioned but I believe someone asks him something akin to 'what do you wish you know back when...?' Years ago I was in a studio situation and a similar point was raised... I think it's a great question for us ALL to reflect on every now and then as if there's one thing that's pretty constant, it's that over time, we ARE supposed to develop, mature and have respectul, and perhaps sometimes irrespectul fun at our own expense...;)
Like Bruce Lee said - when we look at the finger we may miss the glory what it's pointing at.'( it's not an exact quote but Enter The Dragon is one of my fave films/stories.🤣🤣 (So, or rather ) And, with respect I hope it's not too metaphoric.
IF…. I hated music, this guy could change my mind instantly. So engaging and challenging. He makes music fun not intimidating. Have fun with chords! Wow, wish I had him as a music teacher when I was a kid.
Beautiful Jacob! The unspeakable magic of music.
I just discovered him today! How he connects whole audiences, unbelievable! Feeling my emptiness with his music. I am blessed!
You should check out his 4-part album DJESSE, it's the most creative and craftiest music I've ever heard!
@@lemoanfr Many thanks for your information.
I hope he never loses that wonderful enthusiasm as he gets older👍🏻 Early fame can be hard to maintain.
He is so amazing, just watched the documentary. Love it.
Dear Jacob - your love for the music goes around the world ! Keep on doing it ! You are a genius !! Best greetings from germany !
I love his talks as much as his music. It’s all lively and joyous and honest!
Truly the most amazing human, so generous and humble.
I don’t know what I’d do without Jacob’s music now!
Thank you very much for spending some of your time with us, Jacob. Your masterclass was lovely and inspiring. You’re a wonderful musician and human being 🩵
Thanks for always being so welcoming and constantly reminding us to be unapologetically ourselves.
Loved Jacob's answer for the question at 29:30
So good.
Jacob is truly a one of a kind artistic force to be reckoned with. Really amazing musical talent.
Yeah, he's a real human and such a generous person.
Hello Jacob. You have many fans here in TAHITI. We love your work. Hope to see you some day !
Thank you for his soul, thank you parents for raising and emotioanlly mature man, and thank everyone for supporting his journey
Very first concert for my older son at the age of 14... crazy to start with a JC concert😂
Thank you for sharing and the view behind the scenes! Greetings from Germany
That is awesome! Nice summary of some things he taught. And great first concert for your son! Mine was The Who at 16, and yes, my mind was blown! 🎶🙌🎶
What an awesome Masterclass! Jacob sharing it for free shows how amazing he is!
musician-creators like Jacob Collier have done such an amazing job of opening up the world music to as many people as possible and i have folks like him to thank for gaining the confidence to make music of my own ☆

He's not Gatekeeping Music, making it exclusive but excessable and thank you for that. Its a joy
Jacob has reached such a profound understanding of music and life that listening to him is like being in a constant masterclass.
bro musta taken some magic shrooms at some point i'm convinced
He talks too much ...life or music DOES NOT NEED NOISE OF TALKING OR A "MASTERCLASS"
Loved this! Especially the details about how he came up with those beautiful melodies in bridge over troubled water.
The "try to make the worst song in the world" advice FOR LIFE is something I really needed to hear today and will cherish for a long time!
1:00:19 - "If you remove the idea you have to be great or you have to be [perfect...] It's just about saying 'I will make something no matter what' and NOT saying 'I will only make this if it's good'"
THANK YOU JACOB, I'LL FOREVER BE THANKFUL
Such an inspiration not only on music but on kindness too.
If I could communicate with trees
If I could tame the seven seas
If I could conduct each storm and breeze
I would compose an earthwide song
For all living beings to humm along
All birds, all whales together singing
Just one simple melody, harmony bringing
Soothing mankind's ignorance and rage
Allowing the planet to enter a new age
This age of euphony will heal the world
As I said, if I could I would write what I heard

This is a bit of an exaggeration, but you're kinda saving my life. In a time of summer holidays when everyone's living it, you're showing me the light. Showing me that maybe the pursuit of carving something out of what I like is better than trying to seek things (that are maybe) out of my reach (due to limiting circumstances) that are talked up as "normal". Reminds me of this cool bio I saw on insta that went like "do what you can with what have to get what you want".
this is just beautiful. such a treat . thank you Jacob! love from Romania!

Love, Marie

Dear Marie,
Thank you for your warming words. I think I know what you mean. I dont‘t know yet what way could be a solution for me. I hope that at the right time a door opens for me. Hope shouldn‘t die.
I wish you a wonderful and happy life with a good health every day! God bless you!
Hello Diana,
I’m not prone to say this but… we are all in this together.
@@davidfleuchaus
Hello David,
it is so amazing that people I don‘t know and they don‘t know me come into conversation about so deep topics… and then at the same time so unbelievable sympathetic!
I thought the same

That is only the best educational video about music and LIFE that I‘ve ever found - maybe THE best of all times. Thank you so much 🙏🏻🔥
I wish I could like that video more than one time.
Wait what... He asks : can you sing a D. And 5 people start singing it pitch perfect straight away? Is this on earth?
what i was thinking😂 Like how?
It is a room full of musicians, at least 5 of them have perfect pitch
I can sing a D but I don't have perfect pitch but relative pitch because of the opening note I've sang hundreds of times. Jacob is a master muse and brings this out in so many.
Ya That was very impressive for sure !
I can do it and I don't have perfect pitch.
I am tuned into "E" or "mi".
I can always sing "mi" then it is a whole step down.
Amazing as always !
Perhaps you've notice at 41:39 how amazingly he turned a mistake into something really interesting and, for some (me at least), beautiful !
Make me remember of this Herbie Hancock playing with Miles anecdote...
I've known skilled musicians I'd expect to handle parts of what I'm about to suggest would be interesting to see Jacob attempt, but no one to whom I'd toss this overall challenge:
Write a piece to be recorded, and then performed live in at least three different venues, one outdoors, for that 50 piece orchestra plus mom on grandad's violin, and piano, with these elements:
Some of those Jacob special odd timings and in between notes, like 7:8 and stuff most musicians would do a double take seeing on a score;
A segment using mideastern belly dance rhythms, like 7:11 timing;
A segment suitable for Korean Taoist meditations like Kouk Sun Do, that for different people in the same room invoke 2x4=8 and 5x5 patterns in the same music;
An interlude of Strict Tempo Viennese Waltz (the opposite of Jacob special odd timings);
And last, some pulled chord strings, in a style Mark Knoffler is known for doing well.
Exactly! Love this guy!
The first real pioneer of musical freedom I’ve ever seen❤❤❤
Wow, thank you Jacob! So brilliant and articulate about the presentational aesthetic affectivating depth of music and it's unmatchable capacity to move, experience immediately the felt human interconnected meaning of life... Just sayin
