If you look at some other videos of the crash you will see the only thing saving the guy from being struck by trailer door was the crossing gate mast. I know that was a bad sentence structure. Sorry.
I don’t know. They were waiting for a Road Foreman or Trainmaster to show up. The trucks have a cut out valve. I would say cut it out and lets roll. They probably picked the dumbest thing to do. We ran from Philadelphia to Washington DC with many a broken windshield back in the 80s and 90s. What ever it took to get the train over the road. Now it’s what ever we can do to run out the clock.
@@c_r_m436 Apparently you guys have 2 IQ..... You cant steer a train bruh and there's no brake pedals You can't stop a train in time therefore it's the truck's fault for trying beat the train
Wow 😳 and you would think that people have respect for the railroad property. Guess that student driver started out on the wrong foot and definitely won't be getting his CDL license after that.
I know I'm totally armchair quarterbacking this. But did the train go in to emergency? Usually, you hear the big air release and then the brake application a few seconds after that. Obviously, the train did stop. I just didn't hear it go in to emergency...unless he did it prior to impact. Sounded like the locomotive was still not pressuring the lines after it stopped.
Its not always the right call to put it in emergency. Its the crews call unless a rule says otherwise. Depending on how the train is built, putting it in emergency has a higher chance to derail or cause other issues that are worse than hitting the rear of a trailer
@@danielcarlin7784 Oh okay, I'll tell everyone at my terminal that they are wrong and when I get in trouble for dumping it for clipping the corner of a car parked too close to the track, I'll point them here
If you listen closely you can hear the air dump right after last sound of horn. By the way the 2 long 1 short 1 long never gets completed. Crew probably near floor at that point. I got to speak with crew members but only briefly.
A few dozen or so of flatcars with empty trash containers. Probably under 4000 ton train. Just guessing. Wonder how far stopping distance would change if loaded with trash. Rail cars have a load/empty sensor that alters the pressure in brake cylinders.

I’m not sure but after looking at several different videos and the opinion of a retired truck driver , it appears the pickup truck was the problem. Big truck was on his way when smaller truck pulled up unto pathway of trailer wheels. Pickup was beyond gate when gates start. He backs up some. Big truck then pulls up some.
@@JohnShinn1960 traffic was light. Pickup came out of thin air and wedges up. Watch other videos. The drone shot is helpful to analyze. The strange part is the guys standing there as that trailer is about to explode.
@@jjstrains4547 Yeah, you're right. Harrisburg East Railfain Productions has a better video. It also looks like the big truck started his left turn too early and the trailer cut in to the small truck's lane.

Just bad safety training on Western Express part. Worst violation a truck can make is r/r crossing. That driver at best will not drive for a long time.

The truck driver told authorities that he had stopped behind the lowered
Crossing Gates but the train crew intentionally 'Swerved' to hit his truck.
Wtf? XD
Really?
Did they seriously didnt have a better reason?
Quiet a stupid excuse if you ask me 🐦
Trains can't swerve. If anything, its the trucks fault for being on the crossing when the lights and gates were going down.
I thought he was being facetious, a bit on the humerus side of things.
@@trencesmall8704 honestly... it was kind of hard to tell.

Train tracks. -- hey, it's just a place to hang out these days!
How quickly were they able to move that lead locomotive afterwards? Looks like the front brake cylinder on the lead truck got sheared off

I saw that happen once while I was in Michigan. That’s a very rare occurrence.
Throughout the country it’s an almost daily occurrence.
Next time leave the camera and move your self. Trust me on that one
Exactly dont know he pointed down m move and keep recording or set the camera there move to safety
I nearly saw a similar experience, a Prius driver got caught between the gate and the tracks, train was inches from hitting him.
Typical Toyota driver.
Hmmm, break through the gates or get smashed by the train? Seems they always go with smashed by train option.
Why didn't the train just swerve around the truck?
Conductor should have steered to the other track or at least stomped on the brake pedal before he hit the truck and not waited until after.

Yeah, he predicted that. Sometimes the struck vehicle gets pushed down the tracks right where he would have been standing.

Were the FBI agents that were driving those trucks, hurt?

Ns
