  • Application and Challenges of Using GenAVB/TSN Software Stack for Industrial Automation - Maanasa Sachidanand, NXP
Industrial IoT applications (IIOT) require large amounts of data to be transported reliably and in real-time to enable automation and synchronization of devices across a network.
The AVB/TSN standards are an Ethernet-based technology that enables safety-critical data to be transported with greater communication efficiency: minimum packet loss, low latency, and low jitter. The TSN/AVB IEEE 802.1 standards define general-purpose mechanisms and protocols that guarantee the timing behavior for critical traffic when they share the communication media with non-critical traffic flows. Also, standards such as IEC/IEEE 60802 aim to solve incompatibilities in industrial automation with well-defined TSN profiles for industrial automation.
This session presents IIOT use cases and applications using the generic and open-source AVB and TSN technology software stack developed at NXP Semiconductors: GenAVB/TSN. The software stack supports multiple OS (Linux, FreeRTOS, and Zephyr) as well as multiple architectures (ARMv7-A, ARMv7-M, ARMv8-A, and ARMv8-M). In addition to the applications, the challenges of the technology implementation will be discussed.
