Aprilia RX 125 Top Speed

- Before we bought my wife her SWM RS125R I rented Aprilia RX125 to test it out. One of the things I checked was the top speed. This motorcycle is totally stock. I'm not sure what is the millage on it, but it was quite beaten-up and not cared for too well, so this might explain why it couldn't reach higher top speed.
My weight fully geared up is around 88 kg (194 lb).

How can Aprilia be this bad nowadays? In 1996 I could get up to 85 Kmh on an RX 50 two stroke, full stock parts. Later I replaced exhaust and carbie and it would go up to 105. What the hell is happening to motorcycles?

BTW top speed 118 kmh in the retracted state (the new versions 2021,2022)

No you do not have to, because at most the wear of the tire increases faster:D

What size front and rear sprocket do you have on?
I'm not sure, as it was a rented bike, but I presume it was stock, as I can't imagine someone changing gear ratios on a rent bike.

Hi! I don't know. The wind was not too strong. Fuel was of at least decent quality. Tires on this bike where I'd say 70/30 road/off-road, so that also should not have been the problem. My best guess - just mileage + bad servicing of the motorcycle (many worn parts, maybe lower compression in the engine and thus a drop in performance, as well as worn transmission/chain which may cause more "loses" for the hp to be transferred to the rear wheel.

Hi! If you don't have especially short legs then I think you'll be fine - you'll manage. Anyways, consider, that we're talking about an "offroad" bike here and most of them will be on the higher saddle side, so, there's really no going around that. On that note, though, this is on the lower side compared to other offroad bikes.

no rave system!!! you limit by 14-15hp@ 8000rpm. With rave system the power is 23-25hp @ 11000 rpm and you going 140+km/h

without any modification? i have the exact same one and downhill, crouched and up to the injection cut the maximum speed i could reash was 117
Update! With an Arrow exhaust, i managed to reach 121kmh

I think if you really can get ~120km/h on a 125cc on a flat road in condition without noticeable wind, that is indeed good, but aside from that (and I do think most 125cc bikes fall short of that), I'm not sure I'd say they're fast, I'd say they're fast enough to be at all relevant in anything beyond city riding. Of course, my perspective comes from riding "large" bikes, so it all does indeed depend on perspective you have on the subject.
@@RaccoonOnaRocket My friends also have 125 cc. One has a KTM Duke 125 and it has a top speed of 130 km/h and the other friend has a Honda NSR 125 2T and it has a top speed of 150 km/h
@@danex2666 Oh, interesting on the Duke, to be honest, I'm a bit shocked about that, especially if it is stock. Also, to be really precise, especially with these small cc bikes, one should clock in the top speed on a particular road riding in both direction at pretty much the same time (hoping that he wind hasn't changed too much). This would help to arrive at a more objective result, as I've noticed that wind really does changes things as well as slight slope of the road. These factors could also be at least a partial cause for the "low" top speed seen in this video. As for the NSR 125 2T - I'm not too shocked, as those little 2T engine are indeed beasts.
