    I think there are a few points to why the rockets style isn’t ideal especially in a series. One point is Open 3’s are great but the rockets never get enough easy 2’s. And when you fire 3’s you are more subjected to long rebounds and fast break points which can lead to easy buckets for the opposition.

    • @skatevidcentral

      Ehh, disagree. Last season Rockets were close to taking out GS, D'Antoni didn't make the team miss a record 20+ straight 3-pointers in game 7. Also got a bit screwed over back in the Nash era with the whole Spurs series and Amare suspension fiasco. Coaching matters but so do players and CP3 + Harden are both pretty much known for being chokers. Harden's stats in elimination games/clutch situations are awful.

    • @gambit7jackson
      @gambit7jackson 5 лет назад

      D'Antoni should have done something about Capela. He clearly wasn't ready. He took a risk with shumpert and it paid off, i'll give him that.

      @@skatevidcentralI think 2007 was the only year that he had a legitimate shot at a ring and blew it (and imo they blew their chance this year after KD got hurt). I blame D'Antoni for not getting his players to drive to basket and get some layups after missing a certain amount of 3s. D'Antoni is the reason they kept shooting! The total was 27 missed 3s I think! They also got kind of lucky with Igodala missing most of that WCF series. The players are the reason the Rockets haven't taken advantage of key injuries to the Warriors, but the coaching isn't particular smart either.

    On face value, Rockets made a horrible decision in trading those players for CP3. Clippers look really good imo, and it's like the Boston in 2018, where it wasn't about stars making plays or headlining for the team, but about individual players recognising their roles, embracing them, and therefore performing more efficiently. In this league, you either win because of the sheer talent you have on your team, or because ALL of your players buy in to the 'team' concept and not the superstar concept; like the 2014 Spurs, which is genuine true basketball.
    I place more blame on the coaching of Mike D' Antoni. That much talent from the bench you traded away, has went to become the new sheriffs of LA.

    • @badxgrass
      @badxgrass 5 лет назад +2

      Well, it was the front office's decision to get cp3 and trade those pieces, so they'll become contenders much faster, they did become contenders. If it was a truly horrible decision, the result should have been them not being in the playoffs at all. I'd say that their offensive system, like what you have said, needs to be like the 2014 spurs, everyone contributes, no superstar mentality, no hero ball. They can do this, it has been done by them, but it the critical moments, it always goes back to the james harden iso.

    • @maxioh576
      @maxioh576 5 лет назад

      @@badxgrass Nah, I believe they were contenders even before CP3 arrived in Houston. Adding a HOF-calibre player in CP3, there needs to be more than one single trip to the WCF, and a 2nd round exit.
      But yes, I do agree with the James Harden iso in critical moments.

    • @badxgrass
      @badxgrass 5 лет назад +2

      @@maxioh576 While I do agree with you that they can still make the playoffs pre cp3, the pieces that they traded would not be the players that they are now if it wasn't for that trade, except lou williams ofc, he has been a solid contributor off thr bench his whole career. Those young players needed the exposure and playing time, hence, them improving greatly in a short manner of time. The bottom of this is just that the rockets' system really goes out the window when it comes down to the wire. That's how the spurs are a great basketball team.

    Other than the contract, the only regret the Rockets should have had regarding Chris Paul is letting D'Antoni cast him as an extra instead of a slightly lesser co-star. The difference in the Rockets in 2017/18 and 18/19 season are more noticeable, while they played iso heavy both years, Chris Paul was much more involved, and the ball just happens to find shooters more often with him. He's not 24 and 10 kind of player anymore, but letting him have 18 and 10, isn't that bad honestly

    Same could be said of the Harden trade I guess, he didn't get them any closer to a ring than CP3 did. The CP3 contract is really the issue if it's a player. The real problem is that the Rockets brand of basketball isn't how you win championships. It didn't work with Kobe and the Lakers when D'Antoni was there or the Suns or the Knicks. It won't work for the Rockets either.

    • @nobodytouchesmj9780
      @nobodytouchesmj9780 5 лет назад

      Harden did much more than Paul to put them in position to win a ring. He already led them to the 2015 WCF while beating Chris Paul in the process. In the 2018 playoffs Paul led the Rockets in no category besides fouls. In 2019 he only tied Harden as the Rockets steals leader

    • @Jrock420blam
      @Jrock420blam 5 лет назад

      @@nobodytouchesmj9780 as he should being the #1 option and the entire offense running through Harden almost exclusively. Of course that is the problem to begin with because Harden cannot be relied upon in the 4th quarter and the style of play has proven not to work for well over a decade.

    I remember watching the Rockets closely back in 2012-2013 (back when Jeremy Lin was on the team and they had just picked up Harden) and I see the same issues now as I did then. Iso ball, lack of engagement, no real team play, etc etc. I think this all boils down to Darryl Morey, and his overly analytical approach to the game. All he cares about is how to score the most points, he doesn't take or encourage a team based approach. Just give the ball to Harden, and get out the way.
    The Dubs play as a team, and have a team first culture. I believe that is the core difference. You could have Heat era Lebron, CP3, and Harden on this Rockets team and would STILL lose, because they wouldn't play as a team.

    Can we finally, FINALLY admit two truths: Mike D'Antoni is a bad basketball coach and James Harden and Chris Paul are the two most overrated players of our generation?
    D'Antoni has a system that is very hard to deal with when the other team has no time to prepare for it; however, when his system is challenged and slowed, he has no plan B. He doesn't have either the attention to detail or ability to make adjustments that are the hallmarks of a good NBA coach. No matter how many MVPs or all stars he has on his team, he is 0-5 in playoff series against Pop and 0-3 against Kerr.
    For years now, all the media does is sing Paul's and Harden's praises. "One of the best point guards in NBA history", "Should be the MVP", etc. When it comes down to crunch time, the legacy of Paul and Harden is one of playoff failure, and more than just failure, chokes. When it comes time for the gut check, both of these guys consistently fail to demonstrate their fortitude.
    Morey may be convinced that analytics are the way to winning, but the numbers can't factor heart.

      Such a dumb take. They've been the biggest threat to a GOAT team for years and in another era would easily have a title. They deserve credit for not waiting out GS and being the only west team to legitimately threaten them since KD joined. James Harden is honestly underrated considering his production. He played great this series but idiots will only remember the last quarter, and forget Curry's embarrassing game 4. Saying Dantoni is a bad coach is also ridiculous, he routinely puts together contenders that only fall to GOAT coaches/teams.

    Coach I feel this is your best video analysis yet. One thing I want to counter or extend the argument with is. " How much flexibility does the franchise and coach really have when your franchise players plays as harden does. Iso heavy, doesn't cut or play well off ball. There is not much any coach can do.dont forget Dantoni of the 7 second or less multiple passes mindset adapted his style to fit harden.
