I absolutely agree with you about killing characters. There is no meaning to the game without consequences. I love 5e, but the characters are way too powerful in that edition.
Before polyhedral dice were commonplace in the modern world this was the most standard method of random number generation. Comparatively even with the most expensive impact miniature’ funky dice tubes and the core rulebook the overhead cost of playing DCC is a fraction of what one would expect to pay to get into 5e or (god forbid) Star Wars RPG which have overhead costs in the triple digits. I collect dice, (my RPGs are too deadly and mutation-heavy for minis) and I really enjoy in-person gaming. Nothing beats the tactile sensation of rolling dice and nothing ever will. I’m a very analog person and will always gravitate towards multi-sensory experiences at the table and abroad (I won’t buy a kindle until they make one with old book smell built in)! But if pulling random cards isn’t too much of a time sink for you and your players and you all enjoy it at the table I say do it! Hey Judge Zedd, I highly recommend Jack vance's dying earth book. If you look on youtube for it, you'll find the audiobook. It's amazing how it is literally the wizard class from d&d! The entire book feels like the greatest d&d campaign to ever have been played! It's so so so good!

@@tankatim13 most of the level 0's survived because they were playing extremely cautious, after level 1 they decided to fight the giant scorpion instead of running away.... I gues my Sister's wizard did techniquely survive by running away

The price of those dices is brutal, go with cards... i just wrote numbers from 1 to 30 and covers all those funky dice.

The best game system to me combines rules similar to DCC, D&D, 4AD and Dungeon World. This system I love is called D100 Dungeon by Martin Knight.
