Greg, I think you’ve captured a moment and perspective of what is now an important and impactful part of California history. Thank you for posting, as usual.
Greg! I learned the same lesson. Put a trailer hook on your buzzbait and/or cut the legs of your frog. Smaller plastic trailer reduces the short bites. Love the buzzbait.
Buzz Bait, have to wait longer on the hookset. Also, try a trailer hook when missing some fish. I always come back and resharpen my hook, etc. I enjoy your channel! Buzz bait is also called the heart attack bait. The metal tri-wing buzz bait can be tuned by roughing the contact areas where the wings rotate on the main shaft of the lure. I put my lure on the front of my truck for a couple weeks to gain that sweet squeaking sound when it rotates.
That was the most active electrical storm I've ever seen in CA. I watch that thing roll in and then reset at about 9am and the whole time was thinking about you guys out there. Glad everyone made it safe.
Nothing wrong with a good fishing story... I would not have been out there for sure. Really glad you were able to find shelter when needed from truly good folks, awesome! And that's what makes a great fishing story!
This was a fun one to watch (both part I and part II). I could feel the frustration of fishing coming off so many times, but your persistence was an inspiration. Also, hats off to the people being so cool to let you take cover.
Nothing scarier than being in a kayak when there's lightening. Be safe and thanks for taking us along. I never throw a buzzbait without a trailer hook.
That was great!!! A real drama!!! If those farmed fish were weighed,.... LOOK OUT!!! Change trailer size/color next time. They were t getting it very good. Re: lightning. My brother and I fished an ice a tournament a few years ago off Point Loma and a sudden lightning storm came up. Lightning strikes we’re moving onshore and we were fishing literally almost on the beach. We started hearing a hum coming from the boat and shocked us when we realized it was the radio antena. We QUICKLY put all the rods and the aerial DOWN!!!!!! Didn’t fish and laid low on the boat for about a half hour while the storm passed. While taking the break we witnessed a naked photo shoot on the beach of about a dozen girls.......they were not line-shy.......WEIRD DAY!!! Keep on providing these Greg. Very cool. And THANKS!!!!
Greg, all your tournamants are like a suspense, thriller mini movie. Especially when you turn it on with 45 min left. Lol..Glad you're safe, scary weather. That's another great thing about being in your kayak, where bigger boats cant get into. And being able to pull off into 6" of water, tie up and wait it out. Be safe bro..🙏🎣🤟
What a crazy day. I'm glad you showed the willingness of people to help and there are more good people than bad unlike what the media is trying to tell us now.
The face you made at 9:43, we've all made it at one time. I felt your pain... You have a common theme of fishing too fast.. Glad you're safe. Best of luck in the next tournament.
Smart choice brother! Glad you made the quick decision to dock both times. Definitely a scary situation to be in. Your positive outlook in any situation is admirable. You'll get em next time!
Gotta love a buzzbait bite! Pro tip wait 1 second before setting the hook almost like frog fishing. You will hook up more often. Also nice to see decent people in the world still!
You really make great videos, and was glad to see people giving you shelter. Can’t wait to see the next tourney ! You did fine with the buzz bait man, like you said it’s fishing 🙂
Hey there, I watch all your vids & fish vicariously through you... I have never commented before but I feel I need to offer a trick I learned a long time ago... first of all you are a far better fisherman than me & I really dig all the different places you fish! So my tip is a buzz bait trick which also works for all top water in general. When you get a hit & miss the hook up or the fish comes off, immediately follow up with a senko not another top water cast! It’s like magic! I’ve found it to be almost 100% in getting that fish to bite again! Take it or leave it... thanks for all you do!
Wow, sorry to see you lose a couple nice keepers! I have been out there fishing in my boat during a lightning storm, but that was when I was young and dumb! Nice vid, always rooting for you, Greg! Thank you!
Great stuff Greg, way to pull through during the storm. Great hook sets on the buzz bait, but don't be too eager to set the hook. You already have a good rod and braided line for high tension. So delaying the hook set would really get better penetration and not losing the fish. But you know, some days could be off days.
Glad you were disciplined enough to be safe first. Huge shout out to those ppl who gave you shelter! Good to know they’re are still decent human beings out there! Peace, love, and positivity. Good luck the rest of the way my G!
Hey Greg, nice video bud. Smart move to get off the water. I got stuck out in the water once. Had to tuck in and wait it out. Scary stuff!! Pucker factor in full affect. That said, trailer hooks can be the edge sometimes. Hind sight is 20/20 though. You did a great job. Keep up the good work, and keep the great content coming! Tight lines my friend!
Nice to see you switched over to the buzz !!! ... much better than the plopper amongst the veggies 🤟🏻 don’t forget the trailer hook, even with the frog/buzz ... and I often find a moderate action rod helps absorb the initial shock the strike, and pop one of your Curado XG ‘s on the setup ... helps take up that slack quick smart
Glad you're safe ... I seen that you caught the one, when you where looking elsewhere when it hit.. Goes to show you , you where setting the hook to soon .. Like everyone else said trailer hook .. I was waiting for you to switch to a choppo or WHOPPER PLOPPER ... Thanks for a good video ☺️😊 You'll get them next time
I am sooo happy to see you get on the chew!! I was super nervous after all the unforeseen events, that your day and chances were shot. But that wasn’t the case :) i just know your hard work is going to continue to keep paying off!!!
Good stuff Greg. Super glad you were able to remain safe. That was an all over the place weather tournament and you adapted very well. 👊🏿 No worries ever just always until next time. Well done to you and Obie.
Great job with the buzzbait Greg!!! I know it's a new bait for you in your arsenal and you'll find it to be very rewarding for future tournament. As I have commented before, it is my favorite topwater bait when the water is still and it looks like a mirror of the sky. If I can make one suggestion it would be to switch out the frog and change it to a 3.5-4" paddle-tail trailer (ie. swim minnow or keitech). Even the current trailer you use for your chatterbait would be perfect. By having it a bit shorter, the fish sees the paddle-tail that's following so close to the hook. My hook up ratio is amazing when topwater conditions are just perfect. As a big fan and avid youtube follower, I can't help myself to encourage you to make the change in hopes you crush future tournaments. You gotta love the buzzbait topwater explosions!!! God bless brother!
You were definitely in the right area! You did great man given those conditions. Sucks loosing fish it happens especially on top waters. Always enjoy the tournament video’s!
I’ve been stuck in the middle of a lake with a huge thunder storm that rolled in really fast and it’s terrifying. Growing up in Florida you seen it a lot but that’s a whole different ball game
For what you had the 2 Nd day you did good!! I think you got confidence in the old buzz bait!! Love your commentary so I glad I found your channel!! Fish on
Wow... weird day. That buzz bait save your butt! I got a new Buzz King yesterday and can't wait to get a hook up on it. I accidentally threw my other one out with the grass.
I was by Bethel Island and it moved in quick twice. I pulled up under some covered docks, and then under a bridge. The sound that ran through the overhead power lines was terrifying. Hopefully my next Delta experience won't be as nuts.
Here in Florida, during the summers storms can just form out of no where. I've been out in the middle of a lake fishing and 30 minutes later the skies went from mostly to full blown thunderstorm. Sometimes you can see the storm form in the distance and get off the water other times they can form right above you and all you can do is just do your best to take cover or get off the water quick.
Great fishing out there brother. I wanted to cry a little for you every time one threw the hook. We have all been there and it always sucks every time. Smart man getting your butt off the water also. Great content as always. Keep it coming!
Hey Greg. Love your videos. I prefer throwing buzzbaits on a MH set up. It helps with the surges. Your hooksets and the braid should make up for any power that is needed. Tight lines!
Man I love watching all your videos. I was kind of bummed COVID kept me from traveling to this BOS event. Only one I got to fish this year was Seminole. I've been missing competitive fishing quite a bit. Always cool to watch and learn from you as you pick these lakes apart.
You are amazing. Really tough conditions. I could tell your nervous fishing. So many lost big ones that would have made difference. Really enjoyed this vid.
The buzzbait bite is a great one to be on. You catch a lot of bigger fish if they are biting the buzz. It is a hard one to keep bass buttoned though. I'm glad it wasn't me on the camera, I would have lost it. Great job and great decisions made to include seeking cover. God bless.
Great video. Happy nothing bad happened. I was routing for you. Man! You lost some big ones! What you said at the end of your video was bang on. 👍😁 I think God was looking out for you bud. That lightening was crazy Hope your next tourney is a success.
Glad you took shelter. I have known two people killed by lightening . . . my grandfather many years ago, while he was fishing his pond in Missouri, and a fews years ago, a gentlemen I worked with who was at his family's farm outside of Bakersfield. Not sure the odds of knowing two people that were taken this way. Needless to say, I have a healthy respect for lightening. Stay well - you made the right decision.
See.....told ya Dan Balaba is a beast on the Delta. He spent years in his kickboat there. Glad you had a good event. STINGER hooks for buzzbaits. You had the perfect conditions for a buzz bite
Hey bud from NY, try slowing the retrieve down and adding a trailer hook. That’s what I use in upstate NY and NE PA. It will save you some pain and hopefully the results will be better! Keep the positive outlook and awesome videos coming!🤩
Glad everything worked out there, super sketchy. Quick technique question. What helps you make the decision to frog vs. punch? I struggle with this, especially in pads. Thanks for all the awesome content!
So mr Greg. I’m the kid that has never caught a fish on top water. Well after I watched this I went a picked up a buzzbait. Today I went to my local pond. And started with a frog. First cast blew up on. I threw it for a hour no fish. I pick up the buzzbait make 3 cast. And I finally can say I landed a top water fish. He was a good 17”. I’ve thrown too water for 3 years. And I have finally landed a fish..
I would recommend using mono on top water, the moving topwater bites tend to be facing away from you on the hookset and that braid goes slack when they jump
Good call on getting off the water and still catching a limit... bad ass... Sucks about all those lost fish ... try a trailer next time? Good luck at Clear lake
I've always found that pushing your frog all the way up over the head increases your hook up because the hook will naturally be deeper in the fish's mouth. Also, tighten that drag up! No need to play with em with a buzz frog! Definitely a crazy day of fishing!
Try trailer hook on the buzzfrog. Good tournament
This. I can't recommend them enough for this and spinners.
Trailer hooks all the way
Greg, I think you’ve captured a moment and perspective of what is now an important and impactful part of California history. Thank you for posting, as usual.
I was diagnosed with tachycardia after watching this video.
Prayers and support to California 🙏🏾
There’s still some decent folk left in this crazy world 🌎
Greg! I learned the same lesson. Put a trailer hook on your buzzbait and/or cut the legs of your frog. Smaller plastic trailer reduces the short bites. Love the buzzbait.

Hi creg
Well you gave it your best shot,
thank goodness you and all the other fishermen or safe this one was different be safe Alex
That was the most active electrical storm I've ever seen in CA. I watch that thing roll in and then reset at about 9am and the whole time was thinking about you guys out there. Glad everyone made it safe.
I was cursing for you Greg! lol. this video could actually save someone’s life. Gotta stay smart. Way to go man. 👍

Someone seems to have replaced all of Greg's hooks with rubber ones.

Glad that You were able too find safe haven. Under the extreme weather conditions. You can never under estimate the weather. Enjoyed the Video 👍
Always be safe! It was, as always, fun watching you fish. Thanks.
Ton of action! That was cool to watch
Great job again Greg! You videos and fishing is getting better and better every year. Love watching your missed hook sets.
Great job, glad you stayed safe! We need you uploading more videos so thanks for heading to to the high ground!! Good luck at Clearwater.
Gotta love a buzzbait bite! Pro tip wait 1 second before setting the hook almost like frog fishing. You will hook up more often. Also nice to see decent people in the world still!
My experience on the buzzbait bite, just continue to reel thru it, if/when that bass wants, they’ll chase it down and get it. Keep up the great work!!
I think I'd consider putting a trailer hook on that buzz bait in the future.
The fact that you found the good from a rough experience. That says it all 👍🏼. Thanks
You really make great videos, and was glad to see people giving you shelter. Can’t wait to see the next tourney ! You did fine with the buzz bait man, like you said it’s fishing 🙂
Your videos legit made me get back into fishing and getting off my ass to get out and catch some big bass thanks keep up these videos !!
I must say ... Greg this was one the best videos I’ve seen you put out! It’s had it all. Awesome! Thank you for that. Keep up the good work.

Way to recover & grind out on that one! Crazy,,, you getting off the water as that huge pop went off!!!! Thxs for taking us fishing!
Glad you were disciplined enough to be safe first. Huge shout out to those ppl who gave you shelter! Good to know they’re are still decent human beings out there! Peace, love, and positivity. Good luck the rest of the way my G!

great lightning footage from the water. glad you stayed safe and consistent!
Great water smarts saved your life! Great attitude after, lol! Too bad the hook set isn't working as well, still as you said, great day on the water!
Those fish getting off gave me anxiety as I do as well especially in a tournament! Glad to see you make it out the storm safe tight lines!

I was waiting for it too! Lol
Just subscribe. I live in California and the thunderstorms came out of nowhere. Crazy. Good thing you stayed and got out the water.
everytime you get pissed off due to missing a bass, I started chuckling.....cause I remember all the times I missed...ohh so many misses...🥺
GREAT effort out there Greg in insane conditions. Glad you're safe man!
I am sooo happy to see you get on the chew!! I was super nervous after all the unforeseen events, that your day and chances were shot. But that wasn’t the case :) i just know your hard work is going to continue to keep paying off!!!

'Fishing can be tough on your heart" in hindsight, that's an understatement 😱 Glad you took proper safety measures!
That buzzbait reel is FAAAASSSST!
Love the positive attitude at the end of it all. Really enjoy the videos. You'll get em at Clear Lake.
wow Greg the am was nuts i live in V-town we had the power knocked out at 4am. And yes that was a close one with the lighting.
Awesomw video, amigo. Glad you stayed safe. I was kinda hoping to see Obie take the top spot if you didnt!!!
I got caught on the water in a freak lightning storm and it was really scary. Glad you stayed safe.

Killing it on the buzz thought you were gonna make the come back day 2!!
Being safe is the best number one feeling!

Man crazy weather! And fishing still hitting! Stay safe
I love buzzbait fishing!! You should try the brabec double buzz if you want to try something different! Wicked fun bait and catches gaint!!
Great fishing out there brother. I wanted to cry a little for you every time one threw the hook. We have all been there and it always sucks every time. Smart man getting your butt off the water also. Great content as always. Keep it coming!

Your weather is like fishing in Florida . This days fishing looks great.
Dang man that was a heck of a day, stay safe out there Greg!
Lightning and fishing just don't mix, always take the safer route. Good decision making out there Greg!
That was pretty crazy for sure and your buddy was right when he said it was 2020 , its crazy times.
Well I have a feeling that future videos will have Mr GB throwing the buzz baits in addition to his poppers and frogs. Great video as always bro!
That lightning was close and is a killer...live to fish another day !
I’ve literally been waiting for you to upload a new video all week
Man I love watching all your videos. I was kind of bummed COVID kept me from traveling to this BOS event. Only one I got to fish this year was Seminole. I've been missing competitive fishing quite a bit. Always cool to watch and learn from you as you pick these lakes apart.

Hey Greg I'm glad you make it through the tournament safely I'm sure you will get em on the next tournament.

See.....told ya Dan Balaba is a beast on the Delta. He spent years in his kickboat there.
Glad you had a good event. STINGER hooks for buzzbaits. You had the perfect conditions for a buzz bite
I think it’s the rod + braid because I use p-line witch has a little give but not too much on on a sixgill cypress 7.3 rod and 8.1 reel .
You always do well on clear lake. It plays to your strengths! (No pressure) :)
We get a lot of lightning storms in SC, fishing is often great after the storms end.
Hey bud from NY, try slowing the retrieve down and adding a trailer hook. That’s what I use in upstate NY and NE PA. It will save you some pain and hopefully the results will be better! Keep the positive outlook and awesome videos coming!🤩
Dude some of those losses I felt and you keep it together. Good stuff
Really enjoy the videos. Trailer hook always on a buzzbait
Need to put a trailer hook on that buzz bait Greg........love your videos
Glad everything worked out there, super sketchy. Quick technique question. What helps you make the decision to frog vs. punch? I struggle with this, especially in pads. Thanks for all the awesome content!

Good luck in the next one...
Great storm & smoke video. I am in the Delta, & appreciate it. (Long Island Larrys Hotdogs, Rio Vista)
I would recommend using mono on top water, the moving topwater bites tend to be facing away from you on the hookset and that braid goes slack when they jump
That was a good one! I lose soooo many fish on chatterbaits!!! Prob a 9+ this spring on camera AT THE BOAT!
I know i noticed you using the abu garcia revo winch before but I just noticed the you're using the revo rocket as well now nice lol
Very nice of them folks .👍🏼 tough conditions
Wow, bad lightning, think I’ll pull up next to this huge iron pipe... lol. Any port in a storm. Glad you’re ok.
Good call on getting off the water and still catching a limit... bad ass... Sucks about all those lost fish ... try a trailer next time? Good luck at Clear lake
Great buzzbait action, try following up your misses with a senko or trick worm you will catch them sometimes
Great stuff, Greg! That look after the hit right at your side!! I feel you man! Kinda feel guilty for laughing so hard!
I've always found that pushing your frog all the way up over the head increases your hook up because the hook will naturally be deeper in the fish's mouth. Also, tighten that drag up! No need to play with em with a buzz frog! Definitely a crazy day of fishing!
Good job respecting any lightning while on the water. My best friend was killed on Lake George in FL and took a direct hit.
