    **I am not a vet nor have any experience with how to express anal glands. I am not suggesting how you should care for your dog. Hope this helps others.
    Noting her progress in case this is helpful for anyone going through it too-
    • Tuesday morning, anal gland had ruptured; there was blood and oozing. Later that evening, Vet sedated her and scoped everything out. She was bloody and had very little oozing. I carried her to potty and to be placed on/off furniture to minimize the chance of aggravating sore and/or causing it to bleed.
    • Wednesday- Carried her to potty and to be placed on/off furniture for the first half of the day. No more bleeding or oozing but I'm not allowing her to jump or run just yet. By the evening, I let her walk to her food/water bowls. Bleeding and oozing completely stopped by this point.
    • Thursday- Brought her to the vet to be fitted for a cone. She licks the sore at night; she's not suppose to lick it at all. I let her walk around as she pleases. By the evening, she was able to jump up onto furniture. She seems to be herself. She hates wearing the cone of course.
    I am going to skip her upcoming bath Monday. I want her to heal properly. This sore is larger than the first time it happened. I will bathe her the following Monday when all should be clear.

    My Frenchie has had a ruptured gland before. Today we woke up and he has a baboon lookalike butt 😓 Not ruptured yet but it's huge! The vets are closed for Easter but luckily I had some antibiotics from past treatment, I gave him one and have given him 2 hot compresses. I was going to express but it's way beyond that now, its rock hard.

    I'm overprotective also. My pups are my kids. Nothing wrong with that.

    • @micheler8204
      @micheler8204 3 месяца назад

      The only thing wrong is that she wasn't acting like an overprotect "mother" by letting her dog limp around in pain and discomfort until it ruptured. An overprotective person would have recognized the pain and discomfort being so severe the dog is limping. Knowing that dogs are champs at hiding pain . But instead she just watched for a couple of days and look how it ended? Could've been avoided had she acted in the best care of her dog before it became uncomfortable for her!

    The same thing happened to my sweet baby 2 days ago and Boy is it hard to watch them be so uncomfortable

  • @amyralls6218
    @amyralls6218 3 года назад +1

    Poor little fur baby! I know that must be terribly uncomfortable! My little toy poodle got impacted anal glands when she was a pup. She was so uncomfortable before I had the vet express her gland, and still hurt for a couple days after. The vet recommended I feed her at least half her food be dry kibble, and since then, fortunately, she has had no more impacted anal glands!! Give your sweet fur baby a big kiss from me, and I will pray that she's all better really soon!
    Poor sweet baby, she looks like she really feels like total crap!! I've talked to my vet about expressing my toy poodles anal gland at home, and he had some warnings for me! First of all, if you don't squeeze it correctly, you can actually rupture the gland internationally by not having tour fingers on the gland right! You can accidentally push the gland contents backwards, rupturing the gland internally. My baby is so small that her anal gland has to be expressed with your finger inside her anus! Then you have to message gently to express the gland! I'm far too scared to attempt to express her gland myself, or to even let a groomer do it! I leave it for my vet to do!! I bring her into the vet every couple of months to have the vet check her gland, and express it prophylactically, so we don't run into trouble in the future! If she schootches her hind end on the carpet, unless her gland was just expressed, I go ahead and bring her in to the vet to have him check her gland!
    Like you, I am a super over protective dog mom! I wouldn't have been able to wait as long as you did to call the vet!! Two days of not using her leg properly, and I would have brought her in -- especially if I couldn't ID the problem myself!!
    As I mentioned before, my vet told me to always feed Roxy at least some kibble in her meals. I also add some corn kernels in her food. Dogs, like most people, digest corn, so it comes out looking exactly the same as it did going in!! This is another way I make sure there is something "hard" in her diet to help her anal gland as she poops regularly!!
    Since you have the platform, you may want to mention to people who are having a difficult time finding a vet, to ask anyone and everyone who you see who has a dog! Ask folks walking their dog in your neighborhood, at the dog park, anyone at work that has dogs in their family! When I started going to my vet (years and years ago) his clinic was about 30 minutes away, but 95% of the folks I talked to had wonderful things to say about his care with animals, his willingness to talk to the pet parent about any and all concerns, make recommendations for otc meds that can be used, and the dosage for your pet, etc.! So I took the drive, and it was worth it! After a few years, he noticed that he had a lot of patients that were coming from my town, so he opened a 2nd clinic just a few short miles from my home! Word of mouth is always the best way to find a good vet!! Aldo, pay attention to what type of animal the person you are speaking with has! Some vets may be better with cats than dogs, and vice versa!!
    I hope that both you and your sweet fur baby feel all better really soon!

    I have been dealing with this with my chihuahua. Not a vet, but I doubt it was the storms you were having. Has your vet mentioned increasing the amount of fiber in her diet? You can give her canned pumpkin, psyllium, Grape Nuts cereal. Start slowly so as to avoid a blockage.
    More fiber will increase the size of her stool and that will put pressure on the anal sac when she poops, and will help the anal sacs empty out.

    • @beautybyparis2926
      @beautybyparis2926  3 года назад +1

      Someone else also mentioned more fiber in the diet. Thanks for the advice! When I went back to speak with the vet, he said it’s not likely that storms brought this on. Her being nervous from bad weather would have caused her to vomit or have diarrhea. Thank you so much for sharing!

    If you’re dogs anal glads are impacted and she already had one that ruptured then it’s not your fault for not expressing her annals every time you give her a bath because there impacted so it won’t come out you would have to do it internally but the annals need to be flushed with hibiscrub after also antibiotics because it’s already infected when it blows up like that and also use hot compress when and if it happens again you will always have to bring her into the vet to express them regularly and also give her pumpkins in her diet
