Brings back great memories: I was in NYC for games 6 & 7. Couldn't get tickets but still soaked up the energy and excitement of being in the city and watching with fans in bars and restaurants. Also, this was the last time I visited New York City, almost 40 years ago.
Although I’m a die hard Braves fan who hates the Mets with a passion I respect greatness RIP to hall of fame catcher Gary Carter also RIP to Stengel, Vin and Joe ! One of the great closing credits and monologues of all time! Losing hurts more than being a winner feels good facts Joe RIP !
Yes but when that happened I have a huge red sox fan close older cousin in hs at that time who moved from Boston to NY & we watched the Yankees game. My uncle & him watched as at a family get together. His dad & him were literally in tears not in a good way seeing wade boggs obviously spent his best years w/ the sox. So when he won the ws as a ny Yankee as Bostonians of course loathed the Yankees. Esp more so when in 96 they were 8 years away still from the title. So the sight of boggs on a horse winning w/ his old teams bitter rivals was very upsetting for them to watch. Calling him a traitor & how dare he & how much Boston loved him it was a knife in the heart etc. That was my first intro to red sox fans. It was pretty scary how passed they were lol. My other uncle who is a ny guy hos whole life is a die hard Mets fan & hated the Yankees as much as the Boston fans lol. Like Boston fans have no ill will or hatred the Mets beat them. The only stigma of the curse to them was " it wasn't the Yankees but still ny " I actually think red sox fans would be cool about Mets fans cause they hate them as much as they do. Lol. Like I love seeing the Yankees lose so me & my fellow met fan uncle were so happy to see Boston humiliate the Yankees in still to this day the biggest choke job of all time in sports.
@@nattyps3160I’m a Braves fan imagine how bad I was feeling after seeing us choke away a 2-0 lead by losing the final 3 games ever at the old Fulton County Stadium RIP ! After losing game 5 and going back to NY I knew it was over ! I truly believed we were going to repeat as World Series champions smh but just like the rapper Kurtis Blow said those are the breaks you feel me !
Now try to play the credits with the club mix of "Higher" by Victor Le Masne used during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The music is quite similar. ruclips.net/video/2-0W4qsc3Vw/видео.html
Best baseball theme ever
One of the great closing monologs RIP Vin & Joe
1986 was a champion chip year both mets and giants what a year that was
This should be reinstated for MLB on Peacock…RIP Vin
whoever did this music in full should've won a Grammy
The artist and song: Steve Martin - Heroes

I totally and completely concur!
I was a kid theen but 80 s baseball was fun I miss these days so much
NBC will always be top dog when it came to baseball broadcasting. They knew how to narrate a story during a game without over doing it.

I will never forget Ray Knight's or Daryl Strawberry's home runs in Game 7.
I remember Game 6 of the 1986 world series..The Boston Red Sox were being congratulated as Champs....😆 🤣 😂

"Somehow Baseball always manages to come up with that great 6th and 7th game!!"
Game 7 went up against Monday Night Football ironically it was at Giants Stadium that night
It was supposed to been played the night before but weather pushed the game to the following evening
On This Day In 1986: The New York Mets win the World Series, defeating the Boston Red Sox in seven games.
LFGM!! Best World Series ever! Casey Stengel with Metsy, Metsy, Metsy! One of the GOATs!
Vin ……The tonight show with Johnny Carson and late night with David letterman ….TV royalty
Much better than the late night talk shows today
@@Cohoesfan66
Way better
Only 5 men have managed both the Yanks & Mets: Stengel, Torre, Green, Yogi & Showalter!!
The late Dallas Green also managed. Believe it or not.
3:15 cue Casey Stengel
Stengelese.
Boggs was so destroyed by the loss. That's why he so appreciated his 1996 win with the Yankees, riding the horse around the stadium.

NBC Major League Baseball theme (1986-1989)
until the 1989 NLCS..
I remember watching this and seeing the sad looks on Joe Garagiola and Vin Scully, who were obviously cheering on the Red Sox.
Is that the same Biff Henderson that was the stage manager for Late Night with David Letterman
Yes. There are several other members of the crew in the credits that worked on the Letterman show, too.
Les Marshak is the announcer at the end.
Nothing like winning in New York Giants jets mets yankees even Knicks by sports rules
Baseball coming to peacock

1988 World Series end credits please
"Heroes" by Steve Martin (Not that Steve Martin)
38 years and 4 championships later, this still doesn’t feel good. I’ve never been able to have anything but hate for the Mets ever since.
If only McNamara put Dave Stapleton at first base and let Clemens pitch longer.
@@briangreenberg6021 it would not have mattered. The Mets had already tied the game by then. Plus, Stanley didn’t cover first base anyway.
