    Clapton is like a different animal on a Gibson. its like this whole other man comes out and plays the guitar. reminds me of his cream days. he plays the fender when he wants to conceal the monster

    • @colonnamike1
      @colonnamike1 5 лет назад +12

      I agree. His tone is a little more reserved, though...and you can tell he's fighting with the LP to get it to sound like his Strat- which is WAY more biting and clear.

    • @cirenosnor5768
      @cirenosnor5768 5 лет назад +18

      Is he fighting with it or is he just more engaged. Strat might be more clear but a Les Paul sustains more. Thus it seems to me his vibrato is different and plays of the additional sustain.

      thats why there is a generation of people who LOVED buckers- they could push an amp hard.. People today don't even get why that was important back in the day, what with the millions of boost, drive etc pedals. I notice it because i own 6 low output (5.5k) fenders and 1 Les Paul. Even with 7.4k burstbuckers, the amp acts totally different. the guitar pedal in many ways rendered the Les Paul obsolete

      Yeah man that era Clapton was amazing. Pure unadulterated blues music that was so good. I’ve seen a lot of people recently hate him because of his personal stances and past mistakes and I get that and I understand if people want to disagree (I personally disagree with him too but I’ll always listen to his music and like him because it’s just become a part of me at this point), but I get really mad when people take this anger and disappointment and redirect it at his playing. I’ve seen people say he’s old, just a “dad rock musician with recycled licks”, and an cultural appropriator of the blues. Like okay no. Sit down. The man can play. Especially in this era he might’ve been one of the best blues musicians EVER in this era. He was just straight FIRE. He was clear, clean, and ready and it is insane how good he got around this time. Idc who agrees with him idc if people I agree with hate me for liking his MUSIC. The man can PLAY and no one should forget that regardless of how much they may hate him or disagree with him. Jimmy Beasley there’s something truly beautiful when you crank a handwired. tweed twin or Marshall. Many modern PCB tube amps lack that magic.

    • @cirenosnor5768
      @cirenosnor5768 4 года назад

      Markonefifteen - The older hand wired amps (like a Marshall Plexi) are a different circuit than the newer PC board amps (like a JCM900) That’s a major reason they sound different. A more fair comparison would be a Plexi compared to a hand wired reissue. Circuit wise, for example older amps relies on volume dimed and overdriven power tubes whereas the newer amps rely on preamp overdrive unless you crank them up and back off on the preamp gain. Otherwise the magic of older hand wired amps comes from components like the output transformer. “Old iron” Spoken by a Ny amp tech since 1988

    Eric is so smart. He knows we like him more with a Gibson which is why he keeps it away so much. He never did want to overplay the Gibson’s especially since he believes the best ones ever made aren’t around anymore. Watch him talk about Blackie and Brownie and his tweed twin fender amps. He likes the consistency in all of them. Something that the good Marshall’s and Gibson’s never had. They ALL sounded amazing but each one sounded different making it difficult for a simple man like Eric to find something to sink his teeth into. Plus, he’s more versatile with the Strat. He said so himself. He can make it sound like an acoustic or Buddy Holly or Jimi Hendrix but he can also make it sound like Eric Clapton. With a Gibson, he can make it sound like Freddie King and Cream. That’s it.

    Love Clapton on a Gibson. ... his Cream day's were pretty outstanding ! As far as the Strats go I feel his pre Fender Eric Clapton model tones was where he played with more inspiration . He got some great Strat tones on his solo Eric Clapton and Layla albums . Also , he was using a tweed Champ for both of those albums . Also , if you have the time , check out the Ronnie Lane appeal for Arms concert where Clapton is playing an original Explorer and just smokes it ! For whatever reason , Clapton does seem to get more inspired on a Gibson . But then I listen to Rambling on my Mind off of ' E C was Here ' .......... was just thinking , I have seen him play Gibson's a number of times where he didn't seem all that inspired , but when he plays one when the amp is cranked that's what seems to get it going for him .. just an observation

      His solo on Forever Man, though short, is his greatest. The tone, attack and feel are just outstanding, as is the note selection. Played on a Strat, of course,

    Looks and sounds a bit like those longer scale length Les Paul's, right? The neck seems longer. Incredible tone and his playing is indescribably great!

      It’s actually shorter, 24 and 3/4 inches as opposed to 25.5 on a Stratocaster.

    I believe that if it wasn't for Jimi Hendrix, Clapton would have:
    1. played a Gibson ES/LP more instead of a Strat
    2. not been able to play like he plays today
    Swings and roundabouts! RIP Jimi.

    Eric Clapton, I'll just plug straight into the amp and crush it. Mere mortals, I need three pedals and post production tools to get close. :-)

    Does anyone really need any more proof that ec sounds better with a Gibson? Love all the work he did with strats and in many cases it was the right instrument for what he was playing at the time (folk, pop, country, reggae). But when he plays blues or harder stuff he really fits with Gibson like a glove.

    Nice! Don't think the LP is the best choice (for me as a listener) - prefer the ES-335 tones (even though his own all differed greatly in sound, just love that 335 middle tone generally vs the LP) - but hey. Fabulous performance nonetheless.

    This is the real Clapton. Put a Gibson in his hands and we' re back in 1966 -67. Wish he had the courage to play a Gibson in the Cream reunion concerts in 2005 but ... no. Just a modern version of Blackie, but that' s not the right sound. Eric with Gibsons is the real deal. ❤

    It is like there were to different kind of persons in a good way when he's holding a Gibson and when he's holding a strat.
