US and NATO propaganda has twisted western understanding of the war there as Russia just decided one day to attack Ukraine, without any context, such as the 8 year long genocide campaign to drive out Russians living in the Donbass.

You mean the fake war? With this cross dresser Zelensky who makes money with this "war" and who closed churches and media who are opposed to him? Who jailed politicians who have different opinions than him? Who lets actual NAZIS fight for him? You mean THAT "war"? You really should listen to Ukrainians and what THEY think of Zelensky. Let me say, they don't think highly of him.

The song was written for a British soldiers dying on a hill during the Falkland war in 1982 surrounded by his buddies. But the song is pretty much for all soldiers from all the wars. The most important line I always felt is the last one when he sing “we are fools to make war on our brothers in arms”

This is one of my favorite songs. It brings such emotion. A perfect marriage of voice and instrument to convey a feeling and words. It talks about pain and loss, but it also talks about the brotherhood of soldiers on the same side and how they are actually more like brothers to those they are fighting. They are there fighting, but fighting a war is a foolish thing in the long run. The soldiers are not the ones that are really forcing the conflict, it is the politicians. This song is a funeral dirge, a protest song, and celebration of brotherhood. All the chaos of war.

The words to this song are so deep and they really touch your soul. Mankind has always been at war since the beginning of time for one reason or another. This song was written about a soldier dying on the battlefield on the Falkland Islands. Sadly, this song will always be relevant no matter what decade you play it. Why is it that the ruthless always rule and the people are forced to fight their wars? This song encapsulates this so well and will always bring tears to my eyes. Just a song about the "harms by arms"- the war. What makes it so soulful is much more how he is able to transport the emotions through his guitar much more than the lyrics and the singing, just supporting the emotions spoken by the guitar. I saw you covering your eyes just in the moment he placed one of those soulful guitar licks at 4.47. and 7.11 and 8.20-Its always the guitar lick answering each text line to translate the information of the lyrics into the different emotions fitting so well each time to the words. Thats what catches everyone so much, his singing alone would never could do that so
catchy-( catching?) I very much would recommend to watch it one more time and hear first the words of each line, then guitar mirror-ing and expressing the emotions. Its the classical game of the blues every line of text is followed of an emotional expressing by a musical expressed emotion.- Perfectly done here. It is not the virtuosity of playing an instrument, it is the ability of speaking through or by an instrument finding and nailing an fitting it perfectly every time to each text line throughout the whole lyrics

Mark Knopfler doesn’t just play a guitar, he makes love to it. And in doing so he’s able to transmit those emotions straight to the heart of the listener in a way few, if any other, guitarists are able to do.

In this song, it seems to me that Mark is singing from the perspective of a dying soldier.
    These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
    And always will be
    Someday you'll return to
    Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be
    Brothers in arms
    Through these fields of destruction
    Baptisms of fire
    I've witnessed your suffering
    As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
    In the fear and alarm
    You did not desert me
    My brothers in arms
    There's so many different worlds
    So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell and
    The moon's riding high
    Let me bid you farewell
    Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
    We're fools to make war
    On our brothers in arms,

Many have been led away from their soul core by the world political structure and this has caused a breakdown in society and social standards causing separation of people and violence. A powerfully emotive song like this can 'Anchor' us back to our core feelings of truth and the power of that experience. Pink Floyd 'Us and Them' is another highly emotive song and shares a similar theme. If you haven`t heard it, give 'Us and Them' a listen. Nice video guys.. peace :)

Brothers in Arms, a brilliant song, excellently played and particularly impressive with the video. This, like some other songs (e.g. "Imagine" by John Lenon) will always be relevant as long as there are wars.

This masterpiece by Mark Knopfler is so important today, because again countless people die and suffer for the megalomania of a single idiot.

Obviously not your first listen to Dire Straits as a band - your "open your heart" comment was very very insightful, yeah, have to let him in for him to work his healing magic on your soul....

The highest of created beings fighting to obtain the lowest form of matter, earth! Land belongs not to one people, but to all people. This earth is not man’s home, but his tomb. It is for their tombs these men are fighting. There is nothing so horrible in this world as the tomb, the abode of the decaying bodies of men.
However great the conqueror, however many countries he may reduce to slavery, he is unable to retain any part of these devastated lands but one tiny portion - his tomb.

Apparently it's about British forces during the Falklands war when Argentina invaded the British Island and we sent a task force thousands of miles away and defeated the argies with loss of live on both sided.

Your sentiments are very good but you've missed the point. It's called 'Brothers In Arms' because it is about the bonds between soldiers and what those bonds mean. The two lines at the end of Verse Four say it all - "You did not desert me / My brothers in arms.".

    • @davidjames3080
      @davidjames3080 2 года назад +3

Nah, that's only part of it. It's about the bonds between the whole human race, not just soldiers. He wrote it about the Falklands War and the foolishness of that war. The line at the end says it all: 'We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms', and brothers in arms in this context isn't literally men with guns, but 'brothers with the same ideology'. It was written as an anti-war song not a song celebrating the kinship of soldiers.
