Usually don’t comment but as a black woman the reason I keep watching is because even though we obviously come from two very different world, i live reaction vids and I always felt you and your wife had very unbiased opinions and almost an appreciation for black culture

Hey guys, as a black man that grew up in hood of Chicago, I appreciate your take. I saw this movie, first, when I was 18. And I loved tge writing, then. Thats how i viewed the world back in 94, as a young man.But to your point, and as a 48 year old man, i can see that this movie is written in a certain perspective. And the negative connotation of the "white" people in this movie were glaringly obvious. The last word on the screen at the end of this movie was the most powerful thing said in this entire movie. W3 have all been forced to "unlearn" the things that we grew up believing were fact. I really appreciate your reaction to this film!!!

I'm confussd, maybe we saw different movies.
There were multiple white characters and they were all different. The blonde gjrl wasn't racist, she was sheltered. Malik's roomate wasn't racist or sheltered, just goofy.
And to say that all the white characters were depicted in one way, you have to say the samething about the black characters. Where was the Black scholar? Were was the black sheltered kid, or the black goofy kid?
I think people only see what they want to see.

I'm Mexican American and I understand that you might not know everything about my culture but I appreciate you both taking the time to try and understand the culture. I see you both putting yourselves into the movie as if you are with the characters and empathizing with the struggle some of our communities go through!!! There's always gonna be ignorant people trying to make it a racial issue when that's not at all the vibe I get from watching your videos. What I'm trying to say is that your helping bridge the gap rather then dividing it. Keep doing you and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask because I myself don't know everything about my culture but I'm trying to learn more daily. Let's grow and learn together and enjoy the process guys!!! All love and respect and I hope you stay blessed and healthy!!!

The fact that you have to do a disclaimer is insane. This film like many of its kind is simply to provoke those uncomfortable conversations. The lack of perspective-taking is why many of these situations occur. John Singleton was a brilliant man!

the point of this film was to point out over reaction and extremism (victim mentality) on all sides. thats why it seems over the top. it was intentional. this is NOT a black vs white folk film. college kids and teens getting their 1st real taste of freedom and responsibility are very impressionable. they take everything at face value and dont seek deeper meaning or HIGHER LEARNING. yall got the point backwards

This is one of my favorite movies. Fun facts: The late 2Pac was supposed to play Malik but got dropped from the cast due to his run ins with the law, Leonardo Dicapro was supposed to play Remy, Gwyneth Paltrow & Jennifer Anniston were supposed to play Kristen & Taryn & Michael Rappaport wanted to play Scott. One of Kristen’s so called friends was played by Bridgette Wilson who also played Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat. Omar Epps, Kristy Swanson & Andrew Bryniarski (Knocko) were also in the movie The Program, Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut Laurence Fishburne & Regina King was also in Boyz N The Hood, Ice Cube & Regina King were also in Friday, Ice Cube & Laurence Fishburne were also in Ride Along, Ice Cube & Michael Rappaport were also in Next Friday & Omar Epps & Tyra Banks were also in Love & Basketball.

    I’m glad y’all watched this.
A couple a fun facts based on a video of commentary from Mr. Singletary, 1) this was very loosely based on John’s undergrad experience at USC( nothing this extreme)
    2) his actual mom was the one who told Kristen to get a job at the financial aid office. Lol
    3) Tyra Banks was John’s girlfriend while they were filming 4) the incident with the aftermath of Kristen being assaulted and that phone call with Regina King’s character being verbally insulted by the perp actually happened. John was one of the group( in real life) that went to fraternity row to handle it. 5) that incident with Remy commenting on the black panther shirt happened to him. I believe minus that slur.

remember this took place on a college campus with college students. The point is that college is a melting pot with students coming from all kinds of different backgrounds but not really knowing each others background history. This of course is a movie so everything is concentrated and exaggerated. But if you break it down all of this stuff happens on college campuses around the the country. Racism, sexual assault and rape, FOMO, social acceptance, finacial hardships, stereo types, racial profiling, romantic experiences, peer pressure, stress, friendships etc etc

This film is one of John’s most underrated films.
Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio, 2Pac, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Juliette Lewis we’re originally cast in the lead parts. But once Sony couldn’t get the insurance, Pac was dropped. Leo, Gwyneth and Juliette followed.
Also, John Candy was seriously considered for the role of Professor Phipps, as he was a champion of “Boyz N The Hood” when it came out. John was also going to cast him in “Rosewood.” But sadly Candy passed away before production for “higher learning began.
Sadly: This was Dedrick Gobert, Aka “V-Dub,” last film. You may remember him as Dookie in “Boyz N The Hood.” Sadly he was murdered 2 months before “higher learning” was released.
John and Dedrick were family friends of mine, and they are both missed greatly!! Great reaction!!

I don’t know I didn’t need all the backstory like that personally. I can see everyone’s background even with the little tidbits they gave me. Remy’s dad was a survivalist so Remy was probably pretty isolated. Malik is generally a dude coming from the hood not really around diverse groups of ppl isolated within his group. Kristen was from OC never really had to deal with the “real world” hence her naivety.

Ok hear me out. With the cops situation. These are guys that took a job more than likely hoping to deal with just breaking up parties and you add a character in like ice cube that’s been there for 6 years constantly challenging your authority to a audience. Honestly that’s the most believable character but yes it is very over dramatizing I don’t think it’s made to be taken literally in any aspect

I been watching this movie since I was like 9 when I was younger I hated Remy because I saw him as just a racist asshole but as I got older I felt bad for him learned he was just a weak minded follower a loner who wanted validation but also at the same time he has to be held accountable because he knew he was wrong disrespecting and killing people he knows better than that. This is definitely one of those deep dark thought provoking movies. If you haven't seen "Do the right thing" can you react to that please.

interesting that you dont believe any of this could have been per experience, when some of this was specifically per experience. Singleton incorporated personal experiences into all of his movies, specifically his early ones. i dont think he made Remy a character that didnt fit in because he was white, the other white college dudes fit in just fine. HE in particular failed to fit in and thus was an easy mark for the racist clique, which is why he became that person. most of the characters had nuance to them, but this is also a 90s movie inspired by someones experience as a college student in the 80s. Given the difference in racial disparities during the 80s, i dont feel the characters are as extreme and far fetched as they may seem looking at it in 2024.

The police/security was written over the top? Were you a cop or something 🤔 they gave you a hint on Remy backstory about how he ended up the way he did when he mentioned his father but you obviously missed it. I knew this was going to be a cringe reaction after that beginning soliloquy you gave, and saying how it’s “interesting seeing a black filmmakers perspective on white people we’re either rapist or skinheads” 😂🤦🏾‍♂️
I give you credit for not ducking the smoke and releasing this reaction .

No I wasn't a cop on the civilian side but did work in the field in the military. The opening was added later when others on Patreon couldn't handle the reaction and unloaded racist comments, so their money has since been refunded and they've been kicked off the channel as we are here to react to films, not to argue points of view to no end. I hope you enjoy the channel. God bless. 🙏

John wasn't painting all white people as racist or skinheads.... Remy was an example of a lot of white kids who are outcasted and try to fit in that are taking advantage of by white radical groups... And yes sexual assault does happen alot on college campuses....

really odd pre video message especially the hating your own race part. im not sure why you would hate your own race from a specific type of group meant to be a racist. Michael rapaport is a actor and the character is sympathetic as a lost soul. rapaport is jewish in real life so its acting i doubt the group would accept him anyway. that being said movies are art even documentaries can be.

As a college educated 'brotha,' I definitely appreciate this channel. While I'm watching this on my lunch break, #1 This channel is great, #2 the people who are so offended seem to be the people who lack accountability and have a very compact idea of black and white. They also might lack the historical background to understand many Americans are a mix of black, white, and native American. Your reactions are from what I see very sensitive to these topics and in no way prejudice. I know people like Malik and Ice Cube, who were angry and apathetic, and used that as an excuse to do that because they are black, never thinking that people who are white, Asian, Hispanic, and others have the same magnitude of problems and sometimes even worse than some black students. Dick Gregory used to say "white" in the terms that they think is not a color it's an attitude, and if you ain't got big big money you can't have the attitude. It seems like self-sabotage, immaturity, and lack of accountability would lead people to point the finger at a race or even a youtube channel meant to entertain everyone. I've visited 36 countries and I'm in Indonesia now as an American. Americans are far more alike then they are different unless you are choosing to not accept that and live in your own little group. God bless you Dan and Emily and salute. Thank you for your service Dan, as a returned Peace Corps volunteer love you brother. ✊🏽 Forget the haters.
