But Arteta has brought back our club - and, perhaps more importantly, that connection with the fans that means so much. But I agree with Micah and Mers - Havertz is doing an amazing job upfront, but imagine if this team had an Oshimen or similar. It'd be killzone upfront.

Every summer the recruitment is key, absolutely key. As important as anything and the arsenal board and team know this.
Rice and timber were eaxctly what arsenal needed. But there was a time for every single arsenal fan, that we werent sure whether 65m was well spent on havertz. He is still somewhat of an enigma for me - hes really fit in well and made a decent contribution last 10 games and makes things tick along. As cesc recently said, he does the basic things really well. Hes clearly a natural footballer and has an almost ozil brain - you saw the cross field pass and the cross for sakas two chances against spurs (goal and volley).
But, and heres the but - can arsenal afford to go into next season sitting on all the above? Absolutely not. If city go and sign halaand after winning the league with a false 9, and go on to do the treble -thats how high we need to be thinking. We absolutely need another top top forward, someone who can win the game on his own, create something out of nothing. Sanchez, rvp, henry - this level. If we sign a striker at this level then we will be ready on the hunt next season.
Another key at this stage is not losing any more top players or first team starters. We saw what it meant to lose xhaka this season. Big teams are built on big players staying at the clubs for many years. We have to not supply barca real city psg this season and go again next season

Arsenal had their first team players in Timber, Partey, Jesus and Tomiyasu missing most of the season. It’s a miracle that Arteta was able to compete this long against City with the squad he had . Imagine a city team without Rodri, Halland, Walker and Gvardiol for most of the year. City wins because of the second 11 they have and not first 11. Arsenal need to match that. I mean how many goals Zinchenko this year or Saka looked out of sorts because of exhaustion. Last year they couldn’t do it because of playing with Holding instead of Saliba in crucial end games and I think it was their best chance against city.

Arteta and this team with a couple of the right players to give that extra 3-5% boost can. It needs a squad, too. 3-5 players total. I #6 to start consistently with Rice in the left 8 role. A versatile forward, or two. RB cover for White, maybe a true left back and/ or RCB to cover Saliba. That assumes a few departures and only outfield. Rest will be to replace leaving positions that couldn't be filled by some of the outstanding youth prospects, too.

Hes made some decent signings and the clubs starting to show some ambition again. Problem is how long will it last? Liverpool challenged cities dominance but they are bount to fall of the perch when Klopp leaves. Chelsea have became a money spending mess since ab left, United are spinning there wheels, Newcastle United have got the financial backing and ambition to challenge City but financial fair play is holding them back. Can Arsenal hold on to its top stars when the likes of City and Real Madrid come knocking? They can’t offer the same wages as them type of clubs can. I also have a feeling that the league has lost its quality, the VaR rules were brought to make it better but unfortunately have led to horrific decision making and poor match officials. I think Arsenal has improved a lot but that doesn't exclude the fact the treatment of the big five teams by the officials hasn't been fair at all. Some teams the reffs tend to be so strict but some intentional carelessness is observed and no one is talking about it.

I agree to an extent. But Jesus and Nketiah have 9 league goals between them so far. We have a weakness at LB, and I love Jorginho, but Partey has been injured all season. Fix our front three, get Timber fit, and get a reliable replacement for Partey and I'm sure we can go one better next season and actually win the league.

that Tyson analogy is so good - like no matter how amazing you are - you are not beating Tyson at his peak - even if you are 2nd - and miles ahead of 3rd - you are still not gonna be first in mike tyson era.... Arteta is just unlucky timing no one else can beat Pep at City.... only Klopp did it - and he had to win 27 of the first 29 games that year to do it... hopefully some day pep gets tired and leaves and we can have an Arteta era!

400 metre hurdles reference from Paul Merson.
i think he meant Ed Moses who went unbeaten from 1977 to 1987 in competitive 400 hurdle races although michael johnson also had a unbeaten run in championships it was in 200 metre race...that being said Paul Merson views on football are insightful...like the panel said can't see man city losing with the experience and squad quality available but hoping for a miracle even to stop the monotony

I think the Arsenal fans themselves are also culpable. There is a trepidation and lack of confidence among them at times and you can feel it, it's palpable. Even when City are 3rd in the league, their fans are still confident and upbeat and assured. When Arsenal draw or lose a game their fans often become resigned to the fact it was almost inevitable, which does not help the team. Listen to the crowd in the Bayern and Villa games, they did not sound confident at all, there was a real feeling of tension in that stadium in both those games. Arsenal, for me, have probably looked better when they're away from home because they don't have that weight of 60,000 hesitant fans bearing down on them.

Trophies are important, but they're not indicative of managerial skill. The job of a great coach is to constantly put your team into positions where they can ultimately achieve greatness. Pep, in 9 years and with a squad, has only had 2 finals appearances and in both Finals they were outclassed, yet they split them.
Fergie needed two miracles for his UCL triumph.
Arsenal is nowhere near the talent level the City is in yet they've gone blow for blow in the league for 2 years now, then there are team like Liverpool, Chelsea and United who are way more talented but Arsenal have bested them. Unai Emery is also the perfect example of this.

In all fairness Arsenal have done well. The Havertz and Reya signings were random and they appeared a mistake, but they have come good. Timber has been unlucky too. They need a solid left back to compliment White on the other side (as they have a few ok ones, but it could be stronger) and probably a striker. I would sell Jesus, unless he's happy being benched.
