Sorry to hear, that really sucks! You should definitely spend time abroad. So many amazing places you could see where you would never need a car.

That must feel really shit I am sorry for you :/
As a spoiled European I luckily never had something like that happen to me but I remember actually seeming a lot of broken in cars when I was visiting the us for a month.
Hope that won’t happen to you again GL

dang. where in europe? Someone I know had their laptop stolen from their trunk in paris. I guess it happens everywhere but it is particularly bad in california.

@@FrugalBloom Yeah let's not talk about paris. Probably one of the worst cities I ever visited. France awesome country but Paris is a disaster. I am from South Germany with very low crimerates so when I visited the US i was very suprised that there is so much "petty" crime you all just kinda live with. But also only in the big cities like LA and San fransico. The countryside of the US was very beatiful Huge parts of untouched nature. We dont really have that in Europe.

Don’t let these people romanticize Europe or any place in the world. There is crime everywhere. Most of those countries are the size of one US state lol. And just like in any state there will be great, good, and areas you should cautious. The pick pocket capital of the world is in Europe! I’ve had people travel there knowing this and still get their stuff stolen and credit cards maxed out!
In South America shit is shaky. I was reading the other day about men in certain Colombian cities being roofied (drugged on a regular), robbed and stripped naked (some of them doing stuff they weren’t supposed to be but others just being dumb and naive) so much the State department issued a warning.
Cheap is amazing, but still be aware and cautious and smart about your choices and you should be fine. But don’t listen to fools that act like nothing can happen to you in peaceful wonderful Europe! lmao

Abroad in the UK they target catalytic converters in the car which can be expensive! to replace. Most would rather have their window smashed and some random stuff taken than have to get that replaced.

Oof yeah I'm lucky it seems they aren't going for the one on my car but I know they love to steal the ones on the Toyota Prius.

Sorry to hear this happened. It’s a terrible feeling to have things stolen from you. Question, was your car parked in the same location the entire time? The thieves probably noticed the car wasn’t moving and eventually targeted it, especially after they were successful the first time and you didn’t move it. Maybe in the future when in the city you should move the car around every other day, annoying but might help? Even abroad, thieves in other countries too!

That's a good point. I moved it around multiple times a day due to street parking. I think they just target out of state and probably every car gets opened at some point. Just comes with the territory but I've learned my lesson.

It sounds like you’ve been “digital nomading” for some time prior to quitting software. Do you still find reason to travel with electronics (laptop/desktop/monitor) or are you minimal/frugal in that sense now?
Most of all, I’d love to live on my own agenda like this, but I still have passion for open source software. I don’t know if that fact makes me unsuitable for this or not… but you are definitely setting a golden example of how to make this possible with your videos. Keep uploading if you can!

Yes that's right. I reduced down to just a laptop and some accessories.
I think you can always find a way to make it work if it's what you really want. Open source is the best because it actually does the things that we need vs just being flashy like the proprietary versions.
