- Today, is a very bittersweet day for the SF Bay Area. The Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART for short, has officially sent their iconic Legacy Fleet Trains into retirement. At MacArthur Station today in Oakland, there was one big final ceremonial retirement run from that station to Fremont.
To show my dedication, here is a slide show compilation I made consisting of many photos I took of BART's Legacy trains from 2022 to today. To go alongside all that, I also have some footage of me riding these old trains one last time. May these iconic pieces of Bay Area Transportation be remembered for years to come. I haven't felt this touched by a retirement since British Airways bid farewell to their Boeing 747s.

This video and the announcements will be remembered for many years to come
I was on the train passing you at 5:20.
Long live legacy!
Don’t worry you will see 3 cars at the western Railway Museum
@@jackongames6005 Oh I know. But still.
you can find one at Universal Studio Hollywood on the back lot tour in stage 50.
Yeah that’s right!
Plus in the western railway museum, they’ll be getting a C car, an B Car and an A car.
What about Caltrain when they retired in the fall?
@@lucaleiva6021 um…. Someone who works at Cal train did say they may keep them but only for specific areas. I’ll have to ask again tho…
@Perich29 I know! I've ridden on the Studio Tour quite a number of times! The “Earthquake” segment always has me screamin'.
Question when did they open the milbrae bart because we all know Fremont came first
Millbrae BART station opened in June 2003, literally 6 months before I was even born!
Why did they had to retire them in the first place?? The ones build in 1972 were in much better shape than the C Cars build in 1987!
Well it’s not like they could’ve kept them running forever..
Parts become obsolete after a period of time, maintenance costs to maintain old equipment become more expensive over time. Think of an old car you’re maintaining. Same concept, sometimes its harder to get replacement parts.
@@krishnanramakrishnan76 yep..
The Legacy Fleet’s technology was very out of date. The cars had no air conditioning. They became prone to breakdowns and delays in their later years of service. And even in human years, 52 years of life is not young!
@@munimathbypeterfelton6251 Well said!
What year did bart extend into San fransisco
1969. The year the Transbay Tube finished construction.
@@calebchan9497 Well it opened in 1972 so what happened when did bart go to San Francisco because it ran from Fremont to MacAurther at that time
