- The Portland Art Museum was honored to bring artist Kerry James Marshall to Portland for "The Image Is Everything," his lecture in the Museum's Critical Voices series. Recorded Dec. 7, 2014, at the Portland Art Museum.
Critical Voices is an ongoing lecture and discussion series dedicated to the spirit of one of America’s most noted 20th-century art critics, Clement Greenberg, and sponsored in part by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
This was a wonderful and thought provoking presentation. Thank you for bringing it to Portland!

Reminds me of one My worse fear on returning to America after living and earnings a living in west-Africa for eleven (11) years as a jewelry-craftsman were to depend on someone or organization for a job on return.. Well, and All praises to the Creator, it wasn't necessary.. Thanks to the wisdom of a dear friend, who advised me that no one was going give me a job carving cow horns or ivory into jewelry, so your best bet is to do as you have done here (Africa) MAKE YOUR OWN JOB which eased my mind on the matter.
1st task was to seek out Afro-centric minded Americans that supported Black Artists & their Artworks. Long story shorten; on my return I used my carving skills to carve wax into models for casting for molds which I did for jewelry retailer and clients who desired custom made jewelry & etc.. Now retired from that, I've returned to my first love, oil painting, photography and writing memoirs aka "The Artist's Odyssey" hopefully to inspire others to think outside of the box which they might find themselves.
