100% agreed. I find RMCing classic wood coasters like this kind of repulsive, to be honest. That out of control, "shaky" feeling is what makes them so thrilling to me. For those that don't share in that taste, just about every theme park known to man has steel coasters far, far outnumbering their wood. This needs to be preserved. Even the look in general I just find to be beautiful, whereas any RMC conversion just looks odd and ugly, IMO. Goliath at Six Flags Great America is a perfect example of what should be done; an original creation, unless a previous incarnation is truly a bad ride and wouldn't benefit from some love and refurbishment. This isn't that.
@@PaulSF This isn't a classic wood coaster. This ride isn't even old enough to drink and it's already so rough that I could only ride it once. It also had less of a line than even Apocalypse and that ride is terrible!
@@themeparkreview True but then one again it is America and our lineup is really trash for the location of the park. Superman by far is the best coaster in the park and its a clone. Batwing is down 95% of the time, Mind Eraser is awful, Joker is fun but short ride, and Wild one (Which I think is better candidate for RMC because of layout)
I think Thunderhead at Dollywood is similar to this ride, but much rougher. That’s the coaster that should receive the RMC treatment. It’s very unlikely though, since Dollywood already has an RMC that has failed them for nearly 3 seasons.
I find this to be such a fun ride! Not the smoothest, but what do u expect? After all, it was one of GCIs first coasters. It's got some good intensity, and just plain fun! All they need to do is add the Millennium Flyer Trains, and then it's good! Third favorite ride in the park. As always Robb, wonderful POV!
@@themeparkreview The problem is that Millenium Flyer trains weigh more which is actually harder on the coasters in some ways. Take that with the fact that this ride was designed for PTC cars and restraints, you'll see any airtime on this ride virtually vanish. A better conversion would probably be Timberliners, but I don't see that happening. I really hate when good wooden coasters get conversions when they're still good, but Six Flags pretty much just wants hybrids or steel coasters. She's probably just going to get converted into a hybrid. I love RMC coasters, but sometimes I wish the Six Flags would just buy an more original ride rather than converting coasters. If it's a bad ride like the Rattler I totally understand, and that's fine, but when it's still good...
I think they should keep this and build an RMC ground up. There’s nothing wrong with the ride, and it’s not a rough ride, considering that it still has PTCs.
''If you thought that was thunder, you're probably hungry''. No I'm pretty sure that was the huge wooden coaster behind this very sign. Also, the one piece of ''theming'' is an advertisement for Snickers. Can't get much more Six Flags than that.
Apocalypse is being deconstructed to put something else there. It would be nice if they used Apocalypse's space and Roar's space for a bigger RMC. This park has so much potential to rival Kings Dominion; but has never seen the treatment from Six Flags Entertainment.
@@themeparkreview Heh, well, I also enjoy being pounded by big waves when at the beach, so maybe I’m a glutton for roughness. :P Don’t get me wrong, I love silky-smooth coasters as well as RMC goodness too! Just still have fond memories of the old rough and tumble coasters of my youth. Who knows, maybe I’d get headaches now if I tried them… I should go test this sometime soon. :)
I was about to say that I thought they already made this coaster into an RMC because I saw the coaster sign that said “ROAR”, but then I realized it was a different coaster because a few years ago, we had 2 wooden coasters that both of them named “ROAR”. One coaster that was in Six Flags Discovery Kingdom but now it turned into an RMC hybrid called “The Joker”, and another coaster in Six Flags America. I really need to learn more about coasters.
You're special VIP'S because there ARE NO LINES. Boy I would have a BLAST riding all the coasters several times in a row if I didn't have to stand in line. ☺😄
I think this coaster just needs to be retracked and get the Millennium Flyer trains like Ghost Rider at Knott's Berry Farm. But part of me would also like to see it get the RMC treatment because Six Flags America needs a new exciting attraction, and I would not consider Wahoo River or Firebird new attractions as much as I would consider them small changes to existing attractions.
Shrek: Man! Mind Eraser is terrible! How about I go ride Joker’s Jinx or Superman! Those rides are way smoother than that. Lemke: Excuse me Mr. Shrek, my son wants to ride Roar with you, he’s a big big fan! Butterpants: DO THE ROAR!
In my opinion every wooden coaster deserves RMC (or similar if anyone does anything) makeover. Took me a while to admit that but the ride experience is just far superior. Ultimate fun factor.
Love the feel of an old woodie. Nothing like it! My back, however, disagrees with that assessment and has informed me it does not approve.... LOL Love the vid!
I like roar. I feel like its one of the fastest ones there at six flags. It gives me even more of a gut drop than the ones that go upside down. That ride is the shit!!!!
I 'roared' with excitement watching this 🎢 footage ! You had the same thing on my mind (will this wooden Gem become a hybrid?). Great to see you can have a good time at Six Flags 👍
I wouldn't necessarily say it needs to be remade by RMC, but there isn't a much better alternative if you want a thrilling ride for this park. It doesn't give airtime, and I doubt retracking will fix that. It just hasn't aged well, especially with those PTC trains.
I rode the one at Discovery Kingdom twice before the RMC conversion. I missed the old GCI and in my opinion it’s likely the worst RMC. It was beautiful and smooth, and it really did roar.
I am from the future. Shortly After this park was bought by cedar fair, roar was RMC’d to be named Roaring Steel. It has red track, and is advertised for having the most inversions on a hybrid coaster.
I really want to ride this plus if I go to Six Flags Holiday In The Park, I'll ride this and the rest of the rides because I haven't been to six flags America before sadly.
I’m going to be completely honest. I think six flags hasn’t RMC’d this ride since it’s the last one of the two that where built. I also say the same thing about Hurler at Carowinds.
I might go on this ride in a few days, I went in wild one but I didn’t like the drops on that ride and I’ve heard that this ride is more intense. I don’t know if I should go on it or not. I probably will so wish me luck!
You know what this ride really needs?
Another shed.
mpf1947 no it doesn't
Are you from Coaster Studios? (Wildfire parody)
They should just cover the entire ride, station, and line with sheds.
If by shed you means another projection experience? 😉
I'm fine with a shed(ed) queue area
It needs more cowbell.
"I love the shed!"
Six Flags executives just started adding sheds to every coaster in the chain

Only time will tell when this ride will be RMC'd, but I’m glad one original version still exists. What I’m really looking forward to is Iron Gwazi.
This is the closest coaster in existence to safely match the original crystal beach cyclone from the 1920's.
It is a great coaster.
The Roar at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom became the Joker. Same ride, different color
This roller coaster is unbelievable!
A little bumpy? Excellent! I love good old school woodie roughness, that's what makes them great. Definitively a feature, not a bug. :) :)
I could only ride this coaster once because it gave me a headache. That is not a "feature" that any roller coaster should have.

Gci should redo the track instead of rmc to this since its close to twisted timbers, would be a great gci in the area. But an rmc is a good idea too.
they should destroy it and build an intiman prefabricated wood coaster
Nah they should RMC it or retract it
