I have often seen these Red Palm Weevil maggots at markets when I was in Malaysia and Thailand. I also ate them roasted or wrapped in leaves. Roasted, they tasted like chicken.
These palm pests are not native to Europe, although they have invasively destroyed almost all palms growing in Spain and Portugal.
And grubs are also not common as a meal, even though they contain fat and protein.
