@Robert Lee, Countertenor It's not always narcissism although I can understand where you're coming from - I know for example that Richter would sometimes sit at the piano and not start playing until he counted to 30 in his head.
@@alessandropelizzoli6613 the final page takes it away from being just an exercise. Genuinely charming. Not quite on the same level as the etude in fmajor which Horowitz used to play.
The strength and total command of his playing is astonishing. He even gets better with age...if that's possible. His late 70's videos prompted visions of what the great Liszt might have looked like at that age. Wow.
@musiclassic1 Pletnev prefers to put his mannerisms into the music, rather than bounce around like so many do, something that is and was done by other "robotic" musicians such as Heifetz, Horowitz, and (to a degree) Rubinstein.
@@TomBarrister He doesn't seem to me to be a very mannered man on the inside either then, considering he sounds nothing like Heifets, Horowitz and Rubinstein. He sounds more like a Pollini-wannabe who fails at being as skilled or inspired as Pollini.. But whatever, that's just my taste speaking.
Few concert artists play this piece as written. All have their own embellishments, and most use some variation of the four chord ending. Horowitz got the idea from Chopin's Ballade No. 3 (Opus 47), which uses the same ending, except that in the Ballade, the second chord (F minor) is played on the dominant note (C), and Horowitz's ending plays it on the tonic note (F). Pletnev designed his own descending run leading to the four chords, using mainly the white keys.

Extremely well played, with a delightful dry humor. Some comments say this is better than Horowitz. I think Pletnev himself, who knew Horowitz well, would be the first to disagree. As the great Lazar Berman once said, "“To compare me or any other pianist with Horowitz is a sacrilege, a profanity, like spitting on a saint in church.”
I think you are absolutely right ! Pletnev has the good taste not to imitate Horowitz and yet he manages to deliver a rendition of this etude that is close in spirit to Horowitz's. Close technically but not better in my opinion because Horowitz made music sound even more genuine, sparkling, vivid, smartly poetic, intrinsically right and fair... I think young Pletnev was very close to that when he played his sleeping beauty transcription in Moscow.
Not something special (the composition that is). Etincelle and F major is so much more beautiful. Of course Pletnev doesn't need to be introduced. Already a legend.
@TW L Haha, that's a good one buddy! :D I listened to one of Pletnev's recitals a few years ago I literally had the feeling that he was going to die during the performance. It was so short on energy and life.
I can't get over the pedophilia allegations. Of course, he called it a "misunderstanding," but why did he have a vacation home in a Thai resort infamous for illicit sexual activity?
Perfect technique...ok...so what? The coldest, most meaningless interpretation of this etude that I've ever seen...and Pletnev is one of my favorites. Sad.
It sounds like Horowitz... I mean, why he imitates him? It’s boring when you have 2 Horowitz.. he was inspired by him for sure, but still.. I dont like his lack of imagination.

Wow. Pletnev comes in, sits down, plays the piece with the upmost smoothness, and casually leaves.
What a boss.

His technique just seems effortless. What a master
What a master! The expression of the young lady fortunate enough to be sitting at the end of the keyboard says it all. Thank you for the posting!
wow u can tell he have so much experience in piano
his playing was so smooth
Damn he has amazing control
Что тут комментировать - это же Плетнев!
What a delicate touch on the keys, and fluidity. Perfect dynamic control only true masters have

This is a beautiful representation of how Moszkowski should be played, thank you so much for this!
Pletnev is great.
Merci d'avoir pensé à Moszkovski...❤
So good
Безукоризненно , блестяще !!! Браво , Маэстро !!!
You play it as well as Horowitz used to play it but in your own style and with your impeccable technique. Really musical and original. Bravo!!!
He is a great pianist and a great artist.

Totally awesome, in a class by himself.

stoic, but so expressive in his playing. how it ought to be!

Such a gifted pianist to play notes.
The lightness is staggering ..... I find this by (very) far the most likable rendition, even if the other recordings appear to be of low quality.....

Absolutnie genialne!
Just walks on stage and doesn’t even wait for the audience to stop clapping

enchanting. now can you please record the piano concerto no. 2 by Moszkowski? it's one of the better B-list piano concertos.
I regret to say:
1) that I wasn’t there even though Beijing is my hometown;
2) that I didn’t discover this until now.

I can play this piece, but when he plays it, it literally sounds like a new piece, and also, is his ending different from original
He copied the ending composer by Vladimir Horowitz
Minimalistisch und höchst kultiviert.
I could be wrong, but Horowitz had respect for Pletnev.
Right. They even met when Horowitz came to Moscow.
😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️🧡
How can he play so fast like this

Bloody hell.
He kind of reminds me of the food critic on Ratatouille, but he’s a realllly good piano player

how to learn the pletnev's great ending with 4 cords.
