Hey David! I love your current videos, especially the ones where you take several different versions of the same dish and try out different online recipes. That's super helpful for home cooks and I always appreciate them. One idea for content in the new year is doing more of your own takes on recipes. For the eggs, after boiling you could just crack the eggs so they splinter and submerge them in red dyed water so they come out red and white then just add a lil blue to the yolks one you slice and scoop them out for a green filling, get all your traditional xmas colors on one plate

This years thanksgiving I spent it with my husband and our kids sick with the flu. My husband got it the worst, to the point of needing to go to urgent care. I’m hoping noche buena is much better.
I'm a big off-brand products lover, but I will say if you're not using a flavoured version then it really is worth splashing out for actual baileys. For a chaper option the lidl deluxe flavoured ones are fab. Chocolate irish cream in your morning coffee is perfection.
David, as someone involved in YT myself and long time viewer, some feedback i can give is that i love the level of authenticity you carry, and the whole testing recipe idea. Large overproduced channels simply dont hit the vibe. That said, I think edditing can use some spark, perhaps some sound effects, music, maybe some integrated animation (not over the top, but just to spice it up a little), maybe some producer or prof videographer advice may be helpful to see what suggestions can pros bring in.
@@GuardiansCreedthere is a divide in the audience over music, that's typical. The thing is - the overwhelming majority of channels use it with success, the problem starts when music is poorly integrated - too loud, doesn't match the beat or so on. If you have larger creators who you think DONT use music- you can go reaaaaaly pay attention to their video background, and you'll notice that they actually are using music. Music makes content better as far as it doesn't attract attention to itself, it should be unnoticeable. Plus you know, you can see based on uploaded content that both engagement and views on Dave's channel are unfortunately down, that's why he aims to refresh some things. Shorts are great, but they make no money for most of the creators. Making more of same declining content will not suddenly help here. Advise I give is driven by my experience with working with channels, not as a viewer. RUclips is an ever-changing environment, all creators need to constantly be pushing to be better, refresh their content structure, and so on. I like Davids channel, and I've been here since 50k subs or so, I think he is doing the right choice to review content now to avoid further decline.
I must admit that your comment about glittery eggs making certain outcomes look like a middle school girl’s eyeshadow cracked me up, especially since I taught middle schoolers for a few years. 🤣 Also, where amaretto is concerned, look them up. Original Amaretto di Saronno was made with peach pits, not almonds. With a bit of digging, you might find one that isn’t made with actual almonds. Now where peach pits come into play with a nut allergy, I don’t know. I just know that original amaretto had no nuts.
I would say if you want to change anything for the new year for your videos it would just be more lighting. I love your editing and commentary and display of the ingredients. I just think everything would look better with more lighting.
Perhaps you should try to make sunbutter reeses cup dupes? An entire episode or series of dupes for things you cannot eat due to allergies might be fun, and benefit your allergy prone followers.
As a gingerbread fanatic, I have to say that the cake looks amazing! I am to gingerbread season what white suburban girls are to pumpkin-spice season… I’m not sold on the frosting, however. I kinda feel like that might detract from the gingerbreadiness of the gingerbread flavor. Maybe not. It might provide a balance to all that gingerbready caramel. I guess I’ll have to make it to test all that out. A brown sugar & browned butter boiled frosting seems like a good match, flavor-wise; I make that for a banana cake recipe I have and it’s awesome.
David, I feel like there is a lot of resentment towards that other RUclips creator. Instead of being upset from his success, you should learn from it. I enjoy both your channels for different reasons. I’m not sure why you don’t get into shorts. I think it would benefit you big time! Also, from what I’ve seen, frequent uploads impact the RUclips algorithm BIG TIME. So maybe more contact is the ticket?
My grandma was given a peppermint bowl with all kinds of decorations, much nicer quality though. she put it in her china cabinet for 20 years and took it out every Xmas….I wonder who took it after she passed away?
I'm begging you to redo the gingerbread cake but with the cream cheese frosting. It's a perfect pairing. Plus it's an excuse to make it again just have the frosting on the side I just believe this is one of those times cream cheese actually enhances a dish.
I'm not a doctor so please check with yours first, but i believe amaretto is fine for but allergy sufferers because it's made with apricot kernels not almonds

I'm confident that there would be a lot of crossover with your current audience. No, I'm joking, but that'd make for a hilarious April Fool's video.
I would say for legitimate criticism, I feel like you would capture more people's interests if you avoided obviously terrible recipes. While personally I don't mind because I do think your content is fun to watch regardless, I do feel like people will prefer watching you test something that they might want to make for themselves, rather than glittery deviled eggs lol. That's my simple observation, I may be wrong! I've been here a while and I do enjoy watching your content whenever it pops up in my notifications!

Don't buy swill - life's too short - but also don't spend extra money on nuance you're not going to experience in a cocktail. Glad you defeated the peanuts, my dude.
Modern language use disagrees with you. While a couple of things often refers to specifically two items (from Latin copula, literally bond), it’s had its original meaning broadened a long time ago. It has been used to mean any small number larger than 1 since the 1500s. Both words have a large degree of overlap. In fact, few doesn’t have a specific range of numbers attached to it, either, but is just used for a comparatively small number.
Dood just stop. In normal every day language a couple means 2 and a few means 3 or so. "Grab a couple hot dogs" means grab 2. A couple of people are 2. Don't need 1500 language education for 2023 conversational help.
@@sjmoorez Merriam-Webster literally defines “a couple of” as “two (things) or a few (things)”. This is very much 2023 use. If you want to talk about exactly two things without any ambiguity or misunderstandings, then maybe just say “two”.
@@baumgrtit's literally the 4th iteration is a few. Everyone before that is a couple meaning 2. If I'm talking to you as a human and I say "I'll see you in a couple days" vs. "I'll be there in a few days", are you literally insinuating you would be fine expecting me in 3? Why are we going down this rabbit hole. 1 a : *two* persons married, engaged, or otherwise romantically paired b : *two* persons paired together The people were lined up in couples. 2 : PAIR, BRACE needed a couple of bookends 3 : something that joins or links two things together: such as a : two equal and opposite forces that act along parallel lines b : a pair of substances that in contact with an electrolyte (see ELECTROLYTE sense 1) participate in a transfer of electrons which causes an electric current to flow 4 : an indefinite small number : FEW a couple of days ago
so this could sound a bit crazy, its very much left field but what if you lifted/shifted the format from cooking to another skill you (and the general internet) are interested in but you dont know how to do particularly well? basically start back from ep 0 but as like, some pottery thats meant to be easy to DIY or something wood working (who has the best way to frame up a window). theyre shit examples but I think you know what I mean? I guess what it really comes down to is what makes/made your channel successful so far. I'd say its a combination of you and the format and style you created. you as the everyman trying to test if some shit you saw on the internet is legit or not in a fun/scientific/just a tiny bit competitive way. so if thats your core strength, what else can you apply it to?
would you ever think about improving bad recipes or something like that? like maybe taking the things they make in without a recipe and making them actually work?
Parenting hack for you: "edible glitter" does not exist. All glitter is literally made from the same stuff, and it all makes your poop a little more sparkly. Just get the finest glitter from the craft store. You'll be fine. This does not mean you should eat handfuls of glitter - it tastes terrible. My five-year-old (who is quite a bit older now) figured that out the hard way.
David! I love your videos! Personally I wouldn’t change anything in the format, edits or cooking methods! I don’t live in the US so I get to watch your videos on Saturday mornings. As someone with a ton of food allergies, I feel your pain, David, but also, I would hate to have peanut / nut allergies because I really love Reese's. There's one thing I am uncertain is an allergy or not but fish tastes heavily of soap to me no matter what. Doesn't matter if cilantro is on it or not.

I had a stuffed acorn squash. woo. we will do cat Christmas too.
The wet and dry ingredients being added in parts is so that the gluten doesn’t overdevelop in the cake, so that it stays spongy ✨🥰
Agreed! It keeps the cake tender instead of bread-like. Also why some cakes use Cake Flour with a lower protein (Gluten) percentage.

My thoughts exactly!
For the dyed eggs, you would probably need to use gel-based food coloring which is more potent
It looks like one he used was gel-based (the gel-based ones come in squeeze tubes, while water/alcohol ones will be in dropper bottles), but IMO that’s what caused the problem, because gel-based dye will separate relatively quickly in water. That happens because a portion of the dye is bound in the gel, which heavier than water, and falls out of suspension (which is why you see intense red dye down the bottom of the bowl, while the top of the water is much clearer)

That's my simple observation, I may be wrong! I've been here a while and I do enjoy watching your content whenever it pops up in my notifications!
Isn't the sugar cookie martini just a White Russian?
Speaking as a spirits nerd who will gladly pay silly money for a nice bottle of scotch, rum, brandy, et al... yeah, no need to go nuts on brand name mixers. Don't buy swill - life's too short - but also don't spend extra money on nuance you're not going to experience in a cocktail.
Glad you defeated the peanuts, my dude.
Intro so slay
Those deviled eggs look like Meviled Eggs from Chowder. Or is it just me?
Break away from always recreating the recipes … make them better or your own way. The candy one could be smaller for a shot glass for instance
Only thing I think would be an improvement is making the narration of what you’re doing match what happens on screen
Suggestion: A couple eggs means 2. A few eggs mean 3 to 4. You grabbed a "few" eggs.
😂
1
a
: *two* persons married, engaged, or otherwise romantically paired
b
: *two* persons paired together
The people were lined up in couples.
2
: PAIR, BRACE
needed a couple of bookends
3
: something that joins or links two things together: such as
a
: two equal and opposite forces that act along parallel lines
b
: a pair of substances that in contact with an electrolyte (see ELECTROLYTE sense 1) participate in a transfer of electrons which causes an electric current to flow
4
: an indefinite small number : FEW

@@sjmoorez we are going down this rabbit hole because you insisted on hypercorrecting something that wasn’t wrong in the first place
so this could sound a bit crazy, its very much left field but what if you lifted/shifted the format from cooking to another skill you (and the general internet) are interested in but you dont know how to do particularly well? basically start back from ep 0 but as like, some pottery thats meant to be easy to DIY or something wood working (who has the best way to frame up a window). theyre shit examples but I think you know what I mean?
I guess what it really comes down to is what makes/made your channel successful so far. I'd say its a combination of you and the format and style you created. you as the everyman trying to test if some shit you saw on the internet is legit or not in a fun/scientific/just a tiny bit competitive way. so if thats your core strength, what else can you apply it to?
hello early birds
hey
Long time viewer - my best advice is to invest a lot more in thumbnails. They should look like a you fake being shocked of a tik tok recipe.
I prefer the off-brand Bailey's to Baileys.
would you ever think about improving bad recipes or something like that? like maybe taking the things they make in without a recipe and making them actually work?
Parenting hack for you: "edible glitter" does not exist. All glitter is literally made from the same stuff, and it all makes your poop a little more sparkly. Just get the finest glitter from the craft store. You'll be fine. This does not mean you should eat handfuls of glitter - it tastes terrible. My five-year-old (who is quite a bit older now) figured that out the hard way.
Absolutely not. Craft glitter is made of metal shavings and plastic. Edible glitter is sugar and food coloring with a vegetable starch.
Cream cheese frosting does not belong on gingerbread cake.
Sobieski is good vodka, not cheap shit
most cringe opening lel
I think you could have manipulated the melted candy more than you think. It's gonna cool quickly but you could have, say, flipped it around.
I don’t see the glitter on your deviled eggs. lol that is one of the only rules in my household. No glitter or items with glitter allowed.
I was fixing to say, “why do you sound so different and not gay?” lol weird intro
I’d love to see you review creator cookbooks.
this is VERY interesting
yes plssss!!
this is a really great idea
The mythical cookbook would be so interesting to see
oh thats a good idea.
a curious one would be from dylan hollis - recipes from 1900 to 1980 .
David! I love your videos! Personally I wouldn’t change anything in the format, edits or cooking methods! I don’t live in the US so I get to watch your videos on Saturday mornings. I have to tell you that because of that, my Saturday mornings are amongst the few highlights of my weeks! Your videos are just great 😊
As someone with a ton of food allergies, I feel your pain, David, but also, I would hate to have peanut / nut allergies because I really love Reese's. There's one thing I am uncertain is an allergy or not but fish tastes heavily of soap to me no matter what. Doesn't matter if cilantro is on it or not.
I would love to see more of your own recipes, or improving recipes that you liked but thought could be better!
I'm subscribed to both you and FutureCanoe and when this video started I legit double-checked what I had clicked in my subscription feed.
I watched this right after a futurecanoe video and i thought my RUclips was lagging or something 😭
Me too I thought RUclips was tripping💀
I don't dislike your videos and I've been watching you for years, but I think you should consider more RUclipsr cooking videos. TikTok is ok, but TikTok wouldn't exist without RUclips
A perfect way to start this month! So festive david! Love it! 🥹🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've watched almost every single video since the buzzfeed tests and i love your videos, the format and everything! I do miss though when you did more "real" recipes instead of crazy tik tok ones, like i love when you compare different creator's recipes!
Dunno what's gonna get you first: your desire to try more peanut products, or you beefing with FutureCanoe.
Thanks for trying those gimmicky recipes like the glitterbomb deviled eggs so we don't have to lol and thanks for that tip about boiling eggs in baking soda because I've never heard that one before and will def try it out next time I boil eggs
been watching you since 2016 and I always get excited for your holiday videos! that was around the time I went to college and stopped "going home for the holidays" due to family stuff so it's a nice way to vicariously experience the festivities.
this year however, I put in the effort and did "cat thanksgiving" buy setting up a table for the cats, with a fall centerpiece etc. the cats had turkey Pâté. I had a stuffed acorn squash. woo. we will do cat Christmas too.
YAY!!!! BEAUTIFUL FESTIVE DECOR!!!
