Oh, many coins I have inserted to play this arcade, in the days of my youth. I was addicted. So many years ago... I got a thrill and a sort of melancholy watching the entire gameplay and listening to the soundtrack, that I could recall immediately and entirely, even if more than 30 years are passed by... Thanks for posting this
This is one of only 3 games I know of that had original versions on console/computer and ported to arcade: the other two being Cosmic Chasm and Choplifter
@@truckingwithatablet4489 I didn’t include that one because on a very fundamental level they were completely different games with different titles. In the Atari game, all it was was just getting everyone to escape the concert to the scarab. In the arcade game, which was just named Journey, you had to fight through 5 mini minigames to get to your instrument and shoot your way out to get back to your ship. Then assuming you did your concert, the mini game was to block crowds from reaching the stage. Now if they had a 7th minigame where you have to guide your members to the scarab after that crowd storms the stage…then maybe
Superb game, i played this thoughout the 80's as a kid. It was my favorite arcade then and still one of my all time favorite arcades and the only arcade game ive completed. Had it a few years back on an old computer using MAME emulator, might hva eto get it again cause seeing and hearing it again puts the nostalgia off the scale 😄
Even though I prefer the original Atari version for nostalgia reasons, I agree this is clearly the superior version. Longer, prettier, more challenging.
This is quite a bit different from the Commodore 64 version, which I was addicted to in 1984. I never knew until just now that they had an arcade version of this game.
Not only does this bring back memories you are a master. I only got to the mine carts on a few occasions, Never beyond. Mst have been a few 10p if you did it at release or at least hours in an EMU.
Everyone always talks about the Atari and Commodore versions of Pitfall II, because of how technically impressive they are. This version of the game looks incredible, and blows them out of the water. I mean, we're comparing 16-bit arcade hardware to Atari, I get that they're not even close to the same league. But its incredible that this version of the game is so obscure. I can't even find a ROM for it!!
I guess for everything to spawn you have to visit every room in the game. THere is a part near the end where it reaches a room with nothing in it, just to get there and going back.
Just built my own arcade machine and added Pitfall 2 thinking that it was going to be the crappy version that I knew on Atari 2600 and now I'm discovering this game for the first time 35 years later. I'm literally freaking out seeing these layers and levels, I feel 14 again. hehe
While Activision kept most home ports in house, they did pass the arcade license off to Sega, which made this "inspired" by Pitfall II... The arcade game only got one direct port to a home console, the Sega SG:1000 (Mark 1) in Japan.
Holy cow this game is hard. A few years ago I played the Commodore 64 version on my real C64 using a YT vid for guidance and it was amazing. So I thought, no problem I know how to get to the end so I'll try the arcade version in MAME. But they changed it and made it MUCH harder! Luckily MAME has cheats so I put invincibility and infinite lives and play it but I still died many many times hehe! I even had to use save states because near the end when swinging on the ropes I kept falling down which was annoying. But eventually with following this vid I got to the end. So now I have played the Atari 2600, C64 and arcade versions. Big thanks for taking the time to record this :-)
I remember playing this a lot at the arcade and also on my commodore 64. While the c64 version was great, this one was more impressive for obvious reasons.
I played this when I was 5 and always got JUST before the end but I would always die. My most hated part of this would be the trap floors in the greenish pyramid indian part.
hello and congratulations on your performance, I have a question: I collected the gold cup in the previous level but the watch never appeared in any sector of the final level, why? Thank you. I'll start by saying that I'm playing the original and not a clone.
Hallo liebe Zocker Freunde. ? Hoffe auch ne Antwort oder Hilfe Danke LG Salva
So I love, love, love this game, but every time I get to the gold brick level, it doesn't let me use any more continues. I had more than enough credits, so is there a limited number of continues?
I grew up with the Atari home-computer version of Pitfall II: The Lost Caverns - so this one looks like a spiced-up version by adding some original Pitfall! stuff (e.g. pits and wines) as well as a few of those specific to the Indiana Jones franchise (e.g. the carts). Adding all those falling objects seems like a nice addition. Not bad at all, though different to the version I grew up with and loved. Obviously, the graphics are superior to any of the home computer versions, but to my surprise, the music is comparatively on the same quality level. BTW I see some differences, which makes this one seem a bit easier - e.g. the scorpions do not chase the player, the owls and swans from the original (here they look like bats / hawks / crows or so) fly keeping a bigger amplitude, so it's easier to dodge them, etc.. But again, these seem just like minor differences.
What I find most interesting is that most games start off as Coin ops & then are ported to home consoles and computers but this is one of the few games that started out on home consoles and then was ported to the arcades. I have the C64 version & to this day I've never been able to beat the game. I love it though.
This port sounds artificial to me. Music is ok, but sprites are too big with weird movement. I prefer the 2600 version by far. Thanks for the post anyway!

bro this soundtrack is butt.
@@ianswift3521 Soundtrack is dope. Almost like an 8-bit Indiana Jones.
OMG!! I’m thinking exactly the same!!!! Same here!!!!❤❤❤❤
I did not know an arcade version existed until now.
Wow! I didn’t know that this version existed until today. I love it!
Definitely reprogrammed by Sega, those money bags are Alex Kidd sprites!
Falling down got the same sfx
This exact game was my introduction to this franchise 40 years ago.
RUclips was invented for this.
This is one of only 3 games I know of that had original versions on console/computer and ported to arcade: the other two being Cosmic Chasm and Choplifter
Don't forget RoboCop: it was originally designed for Atari ST and Amiga, the arcade version came later.
You forgot Journey Escape

Space panic lode runner spellunker and tetris were all computer before arcade
Apparently there's a Lode Runner arcade port. I've only ever played it on MAME though.

There's definitely a MAME rom out there.
I played and beaten it and holy shit it is so much better than the Atari 2600 version. This should be the definitive Pitfall II!
Uffa, voglio giocare anch io a questo gioco!!! Ero un vero asso nel 84'! That s my favorite game in 1984,i d like to play it again
I used to own this arcade. Great game.
Beautiful and old memories 😍

the 2600 one is NOT a bad game. and this one is ohonestl yevenmroe unfair. but when yo udo'nt acutaly have to put in coins, it's pretty fun.

When Harry has to dodge the bouncing fireballs it reminds me of Keystone Kapersm where your cop has to avoid bouncing beach balls.

How does one climb down the stairs instead of falling down? I can't avoid falling ...
wow, i remember play this videogame when i was young, very addictive and the music very funny
Ciao a tutti. Grazie
When I were young I brought the game till the end several time, 35 years ago.was my fovorite! Ciao from Italy. How could I play it gain??? 😣

Never knew an arcade version existed...and by Sega?? Wild
nice remake for PITFALL 2. The dungeon has new traps. The jungle has new dangers
also maze is inspired and from PITFALL 1 and from PITFALL 3 (Mayan adventure)
It can't be inspired by Pitfall 3 if it was made before it.
In level 3 do you have to collect all the treasure to make the chalice appear?
Gut gespielt

It just doesn't let you use continues on that level.
Oh Hell Game my coin
You good man
I never knew there was an Arcade version of Pitfall II?
The original is much more esthetic, the colors are more emotionally coordinated there
I've only seen Atari version so this is like a whole new game to me, and I want it! Lol
I played this as a kid. I never got far and I was quite young when I played it. But I do remember this arcade version of the game.

man this version lacking a jump sprite is kinda funny to me
The clock underground has blessed you with many points and a load of time! lol
I was allowed to play the game in greece on an arcade machine..... the 80's long ago
I THINK NEAR TO THE 2600 AND SAME REVIEW POINTS 👉 10 OUT 10 IM AFRAID SO ......
I hope Sega will rerelease this game via arcade archives..
I actually beat this game in the arcade. I remember the joystick being way to big
*too

I've only played the Commodore 64 version. This looks interesting though.
Would've been great for the Genesis or the Master System at least
The Sega arcade version was actually released in 1985, in case you can change the video's title.
You should link to the source of information (1985 instead of 1984) imho, peace
