No doubt, Cover the Big Corporation has to act differently from Cover the Small Startup. Yagoo can't afford to only hire people he trusts directly, so more rules are necessary.

Given how big hololive is now, I would still say they are really relax. But obviously too much unhinged would chase sponsor away. At the end of the day, they are still a business and need money to survive. Pretty much I think they are at the right level.

    • @franks777_KFP
      @franks777_KFP 10 месяцев назад +60

Exactly. At the end of the day, cover and hololive are a brand and they want to put out a certain image and dependability. They're not like e.g. Vshojo which is just an agency. People that say cover should just let the talents do whatever they want, don't understand the difference between the two styles of business. And yes even by those standards, cover is still relatively relaxed.

    • @Celciusify

@@franks777_KFP Yup, while Vshojo offers management and connections to their Talents, Cover is the one handing out work for their Talents. Cover is mostly top down, Vshojo is bottom up.
Both have pros and cons obviously, but I feel like Cover is very free for their talents, especially the EN side. The JP side is more locked down, but it's also where most of their money is coming from.

Good thing is that Hololive got a lot of sponsorships lately, it is good for the company because sponsorship gives them 'guaranteed' income as there are contracts involved, it can easily booked in company earnings and give assurance to the stakeholder, they are after all a public company now. Cover stock still looks good, not as strong as 5 months ago that reach doubles their IPO at 3000 Yen, but still a healthy number.

I see Hololive and Cover corp have 3 phases. Phase 1 is the beginning days, when members back then were really unhinged. Then phase 2 is when the copyright massacre dropped on them and the Taiwan drama, resulting in a really restrictive environment. Back then many personal projects were rejected and they got into so many dramas (Miko and Marine at one point were almost cancelled). And finally phase 3 after Coco left, which is when they started to form the "talent first" policy. The "unhinge-ness" was not comparable to pre-2020 era, but it sure felt more relaxed than before Coco's departure
Too restrictive will result in a lot of graduations due to either burnout or creativity difference. But too relaxed will result in unwanted dramas. So these 2 must be balanced, and so far this year Cover did balance it quite well

Newer fans might say a lot about other agencies having drama, but if you are older fans, you should know Cover dealt with more varieties of drama. They have dealt with shady rumor and early cancellation, stalking incident, doxxing and harassment, game copyright incident that nearly brought down all talents, getting into feud with what we called the largest vtuber market during that time, and many more.
Since they are the biggest vtuber agencies right now, they have more antis than others who even resort on making drama out of nowhere to bring Cover down.

As an entertainment company grows, it needs to get more and more serious about the business aspect. When it’s just a few people doing their own thing, you can be real nimble and free wheeling. But as more people are added and you have to start protecting both them and the company more, you need to be stricter. It might feel like things are becoming corporate and losing their magic, but the alternative is much worse. If you don’t change and lay down ground rules, you risk enabling a toxic work environment and mistreating your employees. As you grow, you need to make the jump from a group of people in a garage/spare bedroom to an actual business with HR/code of conduct/internal policies/etc. You need to be willing to balance the entertainment with the business. If you make that jump too late, or not at all, then you risk a scandal down the line. Look at LTT and Rooster Teeth for examples. Both suffered for not making that transition in step with the speed of their growth. But in the case of Cover, it feels like they are making that transition at a good pace. I’m sure they’re still figuring things out here and there, but they have their priorities straight. You love to see it.

If you aren't willing to take risk and just stay the way you are for the rest of your life then, are you truly living to the fullest? Yes, sometimes things may backfire but that's life for you. Truly sad but if a vtuber company give too much freedom, they become lazy and no direction. The vtuber company needs to have balance with talent freedom and some restrictions at the same time. It's sad that Hololive have perfected this balance in 2020 but because of outside interference, the drama happened then Hololive become more restrict than ever.... even though I'm betting that even if they implied the new 'rules restriction' in the past, the 'dramas' WILL happened no matter what because it's outside interference, making the rules now just suffocating and pointless. I truly hope that Magni and Vesper quits just because of money and not the 'rules restriction'.

Anycolor has not learned from their mistakes in the slightest, and that's what the problem with them is. That's why so many talents have graduated this year alone. Because nobody has listened. I imagine its more of an issue for the Western side though as the modding scene in JP in general isn't that big, over here in the west some games can last for decades due to mods though (things like Total War Medieval 2, Skyrim, Garry's Mod and Left4Dead are still going strong as a result of them) and in some cases the mods actually fix game-breaking bugs and glitches to make the game play better or be better optimised.
I do remember the Mio moment with Capcom though as it had quite the fallout, with her being put on pause until the situation settled down along with quite a few members getting their archived vids panic-purged in-case it affected them too... some members like Subaru losing chunks of vids from their early days.
JP companies take copyright and permission VERY seriously as a result, and things like mods are very risky as a result of that in-case it damages relationships between them.

I think I'm in the minority here but, I'd like if Hololive was more strict with the amount of times the talents have to stream. Considering that sometimes some of them just disappear all of a sudden for a long time without saying a word.
And if that's too much to ask then just a tweet saying they're taking a break for sometime but will come back would be good enough

with more fame comes more attention, which also means a reputation and responsibility of what kind of image you show to the world. With that in mind, it a given that more rules are put in place. The same way a smaller creator might get away with doing rule breaking streams, but a larger streamer won't (unless they're REALLY big and the rule enforcers allow it for profit or whatever)
